Andre 3000 Covers ‘Billboard’

Fuck Retirement.

With OutKast’s tour coming to an end this weekend and the Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side hitting theaters today, 3 Stacks takes the cover of the latest issue of Billboard. Excerpts from the cover story below.

He Avoids Social Media
“Honestly, I don’t have a big urge to voice [my feelings],” he tells Billboard. “But I do feel kind of guilty sometimes. Like when the whole Ferguson thing went down, we were actually in England, and buddies were telling me about it, like, ‘Aw, man, it’s horrible here.’ But I didn’t feel it; I only heard about it. So I felt like, ‘Am I out of touch?'”

There’s a Solo Album Coming…Eventually
While there’s one in the works, he’s not rushing it: “I haven’t even started on [it],” says Benjamin. “I’ve got to find something I’m excited about.”

He Might Do More Movies Just for the Hell of It
“I do read scripts,” he says. “But I have to be excited about it to really fully throw myself into it. The older I get, I don’t know what my decisions will be. I may start just taking roles just to support myself, just kind of keep busy.”

He’s Turned Down $100,000 Guest Verses
A rare Andre 3000 guest verse, which goes for at least $100,000, isn’t a guaranteed thing: “[In some cases] I had to call them back and say, ‘I’m sorry, I couldn’t come up with nothing cool.’” We’d probably beg to differ.

Retirement Is Not an Option
“To be clear, there’s no retirement,” Benjamin says of his rap career. Which, obviously, is a relief.

“I haven’t even started on it.”

Idlewild came out in 2006. I refuse to believe that in an 8 year period where Big Boi has released two albums that he doesn’t have any material worth using.

    1. GetReal says:

maybe he doesnt give a fuck about music

      1. M.A.T. says:

I’d have to disagree. The fact that he turned down a $100,000 feature because he couldn’t come up with something good shows that he genuinely cares about the music.

  2. Donn says:

Top 5. Changed HipHop forever. But we keep uplifting one hit wonders and recycled garbage. Wish HipHop would birth stars again

  3. lostprodigy says:

Will be front and center in Centennial park Sat for that ATLast Concert should be epic…Solo album ,another Outkast album, and that Jay Elect and I’ll be content Nothing wrong with dreaming right.

SAY WHAT I WANT DON’T COMMENT ON MY COMMENT.

  4. Cmon Son says:

Sad (for me at least) that the most talented ones are rarely inspired/motivated enough to give us consistent full length LP’s (Jay Elect, 3K, Dre)

      1. THE REAL mac DIESEL says:

STILL THIRSTY??? HA!!!! EAT A DICK!!!!

        DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

    2. Word says:

Why should he put out an album if he’s not fully into it? Just so you can say “WILL THE REAL ANDRE 3000 PLEASE STAND UP!!!!! THIS GUY HAS LOST IT!!!!!”. He’ll drop an album when he knows he can put enough effort into it for it to not be trash.

      1. THE REAL mac DIESEL says:

IT’S BEEN CLOSE TO 8 YEARS SINCE HE’S PUT OUT A PROJECT!!!! THIS NIGGA IS MAKIN’ HIMSELF LOOK LIKE HE’S BIGGER THAN LIFE AND THE MUSIC!!!! LET’S PUT SHIT IN PERSPECTIVE HERE!!!! THERE ARE ARTISTS WHO ARE WAY BETTER THAN HIM IN GENERAL AND HAVE CONSISTENTLY PUT OUT MUSIC FOR THEIR FANS THAT MADE THEM WHO THEY ARE!!!! SO SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

        DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

        1. M.A.T. says:

Just to play devil’s advocate to that kind of logic, he did consistently put out great music for 12 years straight. I’d just rather him say he’s not going to make an album than tease us with the thought that he is when he hasn’t even been making music this whole time.

          1. THE REAL mac DIESEL says:

            I AGREE!!!!

            DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

        2. Starpoint feat Renee Diggs says:

          Word.

      2. M.A.T. says:

My only problem is time creates hype. I’d almost rather him say that he’s not going to come out with an album and have no expectations. That way if he ever did decide to do it, it would be a surprise and I would probably appreciate it more. Rather than toying people with the idea of it happening and allowing them to create all of this hype around it. Because the longer he makes people wait thinking that he’s going to do it, the odds of it being overhyped increase. Which is probably why Detox hasn’t came out, because no matter how good it is, it probably won’t ever match the hype around it.

  6. GetReal says:

you idiots support the worst shit known to man and expect andre to be inspired, hes probably bored with rap and its fickle fans i hope he never drops an album to piss you faggots off even more he doesnt owe you fucks a goddamn thing

        1. Ok says:

You know that’s only the most generic derivative vapid response on the internet ever….right? Weirdo

          1. GetReal says:

            and i don’t give a fuck

  7. Dough says:

Big Boi has always been the better one in Outkast anyway.

    1. SaniAbacha says:

      I call bullshit.

    2. Da Business says:

Big Boi is the shit not doubt but, c’mon son….

    3. lostprodigy says:

Big is definitely The ying to his yang but I wouldn’t say he’s better since Dre was obviously the creative force behind their earlier projects big did however hold his own and continues to feed their fan base with decent solo albums.

      SAY WHAT I WANT.

      1. Dan Karlin says:

The two did very much provide a yin-yang type of situation: Andre was more than likely the factor that expanded Outkast’s sound and why they went in so many directions musically, and Big Boi is why their music always kept hip hop as its dominating element, genre-wise and never went TOO experimental. Notice how Speakerboxx almost felt stale musically, even right when it came out, and how The Love Below was more off the wall sonically than any of Outkast’s material as a solid duo. Those fuckers were good together.

        1. lostprodigy says:

Just saw Kast in Atlanta hands down best concert ever I only wish Dre understood the impact great music can have on people’s lives but than again it has been twenty years….respect.

  8. Barcelona Boy_ says:

Can somebody tell me why this Nigga is on the cover? His true fans want an album, yet this nigga acting like he too fucking good to record… Fuck outta her. I can give 2 shits about an Outkast tour or some Jemi Hendrix film. You see niggas like this take they rap career for granted.

  9. brollya says:

this nigga gettin played out… go do tmz or extra or somethin if u wanna do interviews all year and release no music…. nigga a waste to us outkast fans… big boi got 2 albums and a compilation under his belt and dis nigga got features

    1. M.A.T. says:

Andre’s features > Big Boi’s 2 albums. To be honest I’d rather both not put out any music than be pressured to put something out that would tarnish their amazing careers. It’s just weird, I feel what he’s saying. If his heart hasn’t been in it then by all means don’t come out with something. At the same time don’t tease the fans. Either you are or you’re not. Don’t leave me hanging.

      1. Da Business says:

I feel u for the most part but, Big Boi’s lps were dope tho.

        1. M.A.T. says:

I bought them when they came out and enjoyed them, but I don’t go back and listen to them today. To me they just didn’t even come close to the standard that Outkast had set with previous records. Perhaps it’s a problem that they both face with setting the bar so damn high. Anything less than great is kind of a disappointment. I guess as a fan I just have very high expectations from them, because I have multiple albums that I can use as a reference that shows me exactly what they’re capable of.

  10. Judge Joe Dredd says:

And no fucks were given by me…. Fuck this fruitcake ass nigga. We’re dying to get on just to eat, and this fuckboy with all the attention and demand for his bullshit music is still giving his fans the middle finger.. Nigga fuck you sincerely from the bottom of my heart, I’m not even checking for your films PERIOD.

  11. koO says:

I can’t even put myself in the mindframe of someone hating on this man for having principles when it comes to making music. Not even trying to start anything, but are you guys really saying because he’s got fans he is by default a slave that has to keep producing music? If so what is the required workload here? 1 album a year, what?
