I used to work with a dope artist, Pharoahe Monch…and for his “Desire” album, he wrapped his face like a mummy. Artistically, I had to support my man…from a mngmnt/A&R standpoint…it’s diluting the brand for the casual fan who would buy your record based off face recognition…NOT TO COMPARE THE TWO…Monch is a legend and inspired Marshall! “Hot Nga” is a dope record…so say Billy in Kansas City just recently say Mr Shmurda on Jimmy Fallon and wanted to support. If he goes to iTunes or any digital store…who will he recognize said artist?? NOW, i’ll answer your question for you…Bobby has a memorable rap name…so that may ring a bell. But trust…,most kids go to iTunes, Amazon stores on their laptops on tuesday to see what’s new. He’ll get the sales of those LOOKING for him…but not the causals.
AND ON THE REAL, I’m not even trying to be arrogant or cocky…but asked yourself, if you were releasing an album as a new artist…aside from a HIT records…what’s your most marketable asset?
