Kanye On Beck Grammy Win Over Beyonce

Post-Grammy Rant.

Last night, Kanye almost pulled another stunt when he pretended to interrupt Beck while accepting his ‘Best Album Of The Year’ gramaphone. During the E!’s post-Grammy show, Yeezy spoke on the incident, Beck taking the win over Beyonce and the Grammy’s continued lack of support for the urban categories.

Beck later agreed with Kanye’s sentiments with US Magazine.

“I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody. Even though he said Beyonce should have won? “Absolutely. I thought she was going to win. Come on, she’s Beyonce!” And what about his diss that Beyonce is true artistry, and you’re not? “You can’t please everybody, man,” he replied. “I still love him and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”

    1. cmonhomiewemajor says:

yeah but Beys album and videos were a fuckin moment in history though and her songs are STILL on the charts

you cant even deny she had the best album out of the 5

      1. Mylo says:

What grown man listens to Beyoncé? Smh

        1. cmonhomiewemajor says:

men that have sex with women

          1. jussayin says:

i dont know anyone male or female who listens to beyonce like dat

          2. Mylo says:

Yea I fuck women… Sex is for niggas like you and Kanye…

          3. cmonhomiewemajor says:

lol you get no pussy bruh, just admit it

      2. yorapper says:

        “A moment in history”!

The Berlin wall falling was a moment in history my nigga. Not the fuckin “Crazy in Love” video.

        Fuck

        Outta

        Here.

        1. cmonhomiewemajor says:

k chill…if youre gonna start comparing an album dropping to things like stalingrad, then youre just a fuckin idiot

Beyonce influenced JCole, Taylor Swift, etc. etc. to start dropping dates close to album announcements/single releases, and her songs played everywhere were music was important – clubs, radios, ipods, cars, etc. etc…her videos were some of the biggest of the year, and she got that ass…youre a hater

          1. Brisco says:

the award wasnt for who influenced the most artists to change their release dates

          2. cmonhomiewemajor says:

and its also not about who was the most artistic

its who had the better ALBUM, regardless of how many writers and producers were involved…beyonce had the better album

          3. Brisco says:

maybe, i cant speak on that because i havent heard any of the albums but Kanye was wrong for being so disrespectful towards another artist, imagine how he would feel if someone pulled that shit on him

          4. ilexx says:

Honestly bro u need to stop letting Kanye gas u into thinking it’s ok to be a man and defend Beyonce so hard. Dawg are u a Beehive soldier on a fucking Hip Hop website screaming that Bet didn’t get the album of the year?

We get it fam, you are a Beck fan who believes he is being unbiased in thinking Beyonce should’ve won instead of Beck… Ok cool. But who else really gives a fuck?

This is Hip Hop, nobody over here is foaming at the mouth for Beyonce or her artistry. Kanye is the only one who blows this shit out of proportion and then fan girls like you who shower, brush their teeth and take a shit to Beyonce get all hyped up like “see Kanye agrees with me, Beyonce should’ve won!”

When your opinion mirrors that of an 11 year old girl that’s when u need to stop and ask yourself what it means to be a man.

        2. Savimbi says:

Yes in music history because it changed the entire way the industry is now releasing music. U2 took a page out of her book!!!!

          1. yorapper says:

People laugh at what U2/Apple did.

      3. Chronic says:

How was it a moment in history?

  2. Chronic says:

Kanye needs to realize there’s a difference between his opinion on something, and what is absolute fact….this dude continues to make himself look like a fool

  3. Dashing28 says:

Honestly, I never even knew Beck dropped an album and I’m a fan. It wasn’t on any top lists I saw and didn’t have a significant cultural impact.

Beyoncé’s album, both with videos for every song and for the creativity in how it was released and marketed, not to mention the massive commercial success and critical acclaim, deserved to win over the Beck album.
It made people rethink how music can be consumed in an era where albums are losing relevancy (as Prince succinctly noted)
Beck’s incredibly talented but he’s done much better work in the past that wasn’t nominated and this album simply didn’t deserve to win this year. That’s just the truth.

If people don’t say something then these things will keep happening. It’s Kanye so people are gonna hate on him when he speaks out but it doesn’t make what he said not true.

You better believe that the outspoken dialogue about Iggy and her lack of talent in recent months had an impact on her not winning any Grammy’s.

    1. Used 2 B A Youngin says:

beck “blue moon” is a good song

      1. Dashing28 says:

Beck is super talented. “Odelay” was great. As was “The Information” but it wasn’t near his best work and it didn’t have the impact that Beyonce’s album did.

        1. Chronic says:

You’re overhyping the “impact” way too much man

          1. Chill says:

Chronic, who do you think should have won, homie? And why don’t you tell us why that person should have won instead of implying that we’re wrong.

          2. Chronic says:

Of the albums nominated I thought Ed shereen shouldve won honestly. Much better singing than beyonce on most songs, his songs are actually about shit, and he writes and plays all his own music.

    2. Chill says:

I’m rocking with Ye on this one. The academy doesn’t know what they’re doing. They probably never have, actually. He’s allowed to call them out on their BS. Nobody can deny what Beyonce’s album did for the “music business” itself. Let alone the fact that it was one of the best and most impactful albums of 2014.

      1. SJB says:

When you say “the academy doesn’t know what they’re doing. They probably never have…” do you include making Kanye one of the most nominated males in it’s history and Beyonce having the most wins for a female?

        1. Chill says:

Yes I do include that. And I’m talking about wins, not nominations. I’m not saying it’s necessarily intentional. But there’s clearly some bias there. Top categories like album of the year etc which crosses genre lines, they tend to get it wrong especially when there’s a person of color.

And while Beyonce may have the “most wins for a female,” did you realize that out of about 20 grammys she’s won all of them are in the “R&B, Urban, or Rap/Sung” category? Only 3 are for multi-genre awards: 1) pop vocal performance, 2) song of the year, and 3) surround sound album. They put us in a box.

          1. Chronic says:

Ok and do you expect a country star to get a bunch of awards out of their genre?? No

      2. yorapper says:

You know “The Academy” isn’t the Illuminati right? It’s made up of past grammy winners and nominees which not only include artists but producers, audio engineers, and execs. There isn’t some conspiracy here. Beyonce album trash.

        1. Chill says:

I’m well aware of who the Academy is. And I don’t recall saying that there was some conspiracy. In fact, me saying it “doesn’t know” what it’s doing is the exact opposite of saying there’s a conspiracy. And that’s your opinion regarding the Beyonce album. I disagree, and I assume most people would including the Academy as the album was nominated for Album of the Year. Fact is, Beyonce’s album made many of the critics top of the year lists. It was released with essentially no pre-release promotion and had a large cultural impact. And it’s dope. Read a comment carefully before you make false implications, homie.

          1. Chronic says:

What cultural impact did it have??? And they did no promo and released a bunch of videos…who gives a fuck. It’s music…you’re supppsed to listen to it, not watch it.

          2. Chronic says:

No please enlighten me as to its cultural impact…I wanna hear about how it changed our way of life

          3. Chill says:

No, why don’t you make an argument for something instead of against. Tell me, homie. Who should have won, and why? Because if you’re hear just to disagree with me, I ain’t interested.

          4. Chronic says:

Ed Shereen. He had a better album, was better singing than beyonce. His songs actually have meaning to them and he wrote them himself. Now please, tell me how beyonce album changed our life’s forever??

          5. Chronic says:

Thanks I’ll check it out sometime…but before that just go into detail about how Beyonces album started a revolution the likes of which the human race has never before seen

          6. Chill says:

Right, because if an album wasn’t on the level of the moon landing or a Presidential assassination it couldn’t have had a “cultural impact. . .”

You’re a regular Albert Einstein I tell ya. I’m done here though. You have a good one.

          7. Chronic says:

You clearly didn’t get I was saying shit like that ironically cause you have continued to state it had huge cultural impact…and then haven’t backed up that statement with anything

          8. Chill says:

Homie google the words surfboard and Beyonce and tell me how many images come up. How many people started using the line “drunk in love” to refer to their significant other. No promotion, nothing, and in one day she became an internet sensation. There were tons on memes, gifs, etc. I didn’t say she changed the world. I’m saying it had a huge affect on culture.

But Beyond the album’s novel impact on culture. Beyonce was/is one of the biggest artist of the last decade who released an album essentially about women embracing their sexuality, but ironically, at the same time not just being sexual objects and subordinating themselves to men. (e.g. Madonna in the 80s early 90s) The album was released and promoted during a time when in politics and the media women’s issues were big. I.e. conservative politicians questioning sexual assault, the use of contraceptives; the NFL addressing issues of domestic violence.

On the business side it had an impact on how major labels treat artists regarding how albums are released (not pushing BS singles), which has and will affect the quality of music we as listeners will get. i.e. 2014 Forest Hills Drive, D’Angelo’s most recent release.

Did she assassinate Osama Bin Laden, sign a peace treaty? No. But her album had a huge impact on culture and. Her album resonated with the millennial generation of women during a time when they were also standing up and speaking for themselves.

You don’t have to agree, my opinion. We’ll see when they make the documentary about her career 20 years from now. And this from a person who’s bought 2 Beyonce albums in my life.

          9. Chronic says:

yea cause partition, drunk in love, and 7/11 are so empowering to women….gtfoh. She didn’t start the expression drunk in love…it comes form the phrase punch drunk love….and she had a bunch of ignorant black girls use the word surfboard as slang…and you must just live somewhere very different than me, cause I aint heard anyone talking bout that album outside of hearing it on the radio

          10. Chill says:

Lol you got it brah. Have a goodnight tho.

          11. GetReal says:

you obviously live under a fucking rock then…loser

          12. Chronic says:

And you’re a dude who listens to beyonce

          13. yorapper says:

I don’t remember what I said but you have all good points.

    3. yorapper says:

I think you missed the point entirely and make the same point Justin Bieber fans do. Marketing impact isn’t the same as artistic merit. Just because you figured out how to market something doesn’t mean you made the best art. The Grammy’s should always be about artistic merit and while not perfect, by any means, it is decided on by fellow artists, producers, audio engineers and execs. I don’t see how they could make a fairer system.

      1. Dashing28 says:

No, I think you missed MY point, where I mentioned that the album was CRITICALLY acclaimed as well as commercially successful. It has a higher Metacritic rating than Beck’s album. Not to mention a higher score by high brow critical publications including Spin and Pitchfork.

Not to mention that the release of the album and it’s success will do for the “artistic merit” than any of the albums listed. Do you think that D’angelo’s record label would have had the confidence to release his album with no promotion, no singles out of nowhere if Beyonce hadn’t released her album successfully??

It’s now opened the door for artists to release music without the traditional need to “dumb down” the music by churning out poll-tested singles and videos in order to promote an album successfully.

        1. Brisco says:

your last 2 paragraphs are completely irrelevant to this award

          1. Dashing28 says:

Then just enjoy the first paragraph bro.

The last 2 were specifically replying to the notion that there was no artistic merit to Beyonce’s album.

          2. Chill says:

I don’t see why this is a difficult concept for them. No one’s hating on Beck. Beyonce was the stronger album. Period.

        2. bluehefner96 says:

You’ve said nothing in terms of the albums actual content. Only highlighting success and impact.

That’s weak, because it’s not a popularity contest. If that were the
case, than there’s no need for the award show. We can hand pick the
winners ourselves. We don’t need a dedicated group of individuals to do
that for us. They are there to actual listen to the albums content and
          rate it based off that.

Hell, we might as well give Beyonce awards every year, all year if it’s about popularity.

          1. Dashing28 says:

Re-read the first paragraph bro. CRITICAL success = Album’s content. Not clear enough? Here:

BEYONCE WAS BETTER REVIEWED THAN BECK’S ALBUM

        3. yorapper says:

You really listen to Beyonce like that?

    4. Duane Mecca Johnson says:

Dear Kanye west….your high horse is more like a pony….to an artist who actually knows their way around the instruments found In Your samples!

    5. diggz says:

to say beck needs to respect artisty is straight up retarded and ignorant, coming from a Kane fan. Beck plays 10 instruments and writes his own music while Beyonce has teams. You think Beyonce came up with that marketing plan? G T F O H

    6. crazywaves says:

Has anyone listened to Becks album? If not you need to give it a spin. Im not surprised it won. its just good music.

As for Kanye.. well i like his music, but he has no respect for anybody but himself. He is entitled to his opinion of other artist and i would listen to it if only he wasnt throwing fits like a 5 year old.

  4. The Rock says says:

no rapper should attend the grammy’s if they’re not going to televise our awards

    1. iseerashonal says:

but u kno these rappers nowadays r uncle toms they aint bout that life….pac woulda had niggaz in check on some thuglife shit

  5. Your Father says:

Kanye is buggin. Beck is more of an artist than Beyoncé will ever be. He can actually play instruments. Beyoncé is a great entertainer but let’s not act like many parts don’t make up the end product (choreographers, songwriters + producers). If anything Kanye should be happy a guy like Beck won because he stands for not doing what’s popular and still gaining recognition which would encourage more people to experiment.

    1. cmonhomiewemajor says:

what does instruments have to do with anything? Beyonces a singer and a big star…does this make her less of an artist? what kind of logic is that?

      1. FREE SUGE says:

yes it does make her less on an artist when she doesnt compose her songs or even write her lyrics. everything she does in an industry creation

        1. cmonhomiewemajor says:

so what if she had help? how many artists do you know that could pull off that album she put out? NONE

Michael Jackson had like 50 musicians work on his shit..if you’re gonna tell me that Beck is better than Michael because he plays fuckin acoustic guitar then you’re a fuckin idiot

          1. Non Fiction Dixon says:

Real musicians last. All it takes is a songwriter to write Beyonce a shitty song and public will scrutinize her forever. Beck could care less about the public because he confident and doesnt give a fuck about what the public thinks. Thats a real musician! Hes been around 25 years without following the “industry system” and the fact that he won that grammy proves it!

          2. yorapper says:

Yup! Beck will be still at it 25 years from now. And remember Jay Z’s comment about a true measure of an artist is longevity.

          3. Savimbi says:

Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, James Brown etc never were “real musicians” in a sense that they didn’t play a particular instruments yet as artists still were impactful in their music careers so I don’t get this “beck” is better argument. Furthermore I know beck is, respect his artistry but bruh his music doesn’t cross cultural barriers unlike Beck’s music

          4. yorapper says:

You can’t play the MJ card man! This is Beyonce vs Beck. You also can’t be taken serious if you think Beyonce is a a real artist and much more than Beck is.

          5. cmonhomiewemajor says:

why not? are singers/dancers not considered artists anymore? wtf

so rappers aren’t artists either because all they do is say words to a beat?

Bey could sing a gospel record and completely turn a crowd over..engulfing any instrument Beck plays

          6. Brisco says:

were singers/dancers ever really considered recording artists?

i always thought of them as entertainers/performers.

          7. cmonhomiewemajor says:

            damn, this generation is fucked

anybody that uses art to express something is an artist

          8. Brisco says:

even if the art was created by someone else? if i dance and sing along to a kanye west song am i an artist now?

          9. cmonhomiewemajor says:

well yeah, why not? youre not selling anything, so its not commercial, but its still artistic

          10. Brisco says:

writing rhymes = artistry therefore rappers = artists

          11. cmonhomiewemajor says:

delivery, flow, etc. are all artistic too

          12. Chronic says:

And if she wrote that song maybe id give her more credit….and rappers and singers are artists…but you gotta have serious talent and a crazy flow/talk some real shit to not just be another industry puppet that they’re gonna use to make a bunch of top 40 hits about slinging and partying at strip clubs.

          13. Chronic says:

So by saying no other artists could pull it off I have to assume you mean if any other artist put out that album no one would’ve co-signed it and it would’ve done horrible…I think you’re proving the point that beck deserved this

          14. C says:

Now this is worthy of a Co Sign!

          15. kirk says:

But Mike composed most of the music and wrote the songs. Watch his movie about going on tour after he died. The guy was giving direction to all the musicians how each instrument should sound. That is what you call a real musician.

      2. yorapper says:

Yeah when you don’t write or produce half your songs you ain’t no artist. You’re a singer.

        1. cmonhomiewemajor says:

what kind of logic is this?

          1. yorapper says:

what kind of logic isn’t it?

        2. Savimbi says:

By saying that you’re implying that she writes half her songs right? Lol

          1. yorapper says:

True but I was being generous. All her biggest songs written by 5 other people.

      3. Hello i hope i'm right says:

Being an artist means being creative. most if not all songs wrote for singers such as Beyonce all ready have a pre recorded demo included meaning that the artist who wrote the song for her has already laid the foundation down as far as how it should sound. as for having writers in the studio writing for her the same kinda thing is done but the writer will tell her how it should sound now she can and probably does add her own idea’s as to how she should sing this and that but thats kinda like a producer taking a beat that’s already been made and adding their own hi hats and snare drum to it and calling it his production but thats not really his body of work or creative is it?…

        1. Savimbi says:

Mj also had songs produced and written for him, he played no instruments, does that make him less of an artist? I’m curious because it seems to be your argument, because some of her songs weren’t written or produced by her so she’s no artist? That’s illogical

          1. Mike Jones..WHO? says:

Mj also wrote alot of his own music and played a every big part in the production. to say he was just handed a song that he was told to cover as a singer is just silly.

          2. Savimbi says:

            I’m aware of that.

    2. yorapper says:

      My thoughts exactly.

    3. I think Beck album was a good listen but I think Beyonce should have won, even Beck said the same thing sir. What does playing instruments have to do with anything if that is the case every musician in your opinion are not real artist than. That doesn’t make since and you know it.

    4. Dashing28 says:

No, dude. Beyonce is a real artist.

It’s like saying a movie director’s not an artist cause he didn’t hold the camera or edit the film by himself.

Beyonce was a co-writer on every track on the album. She also collaborated with artists that helped write, but it was her vision, meaning these songs would not exist without her direction.

When you add in the fact that the album had visuals for every track that all aligned with her vision you understand the amount of “Art” that was required.

Just because she can’t play a few chords on the piano does not take away from that.

    5. Savimbi says:

Michael Jackson never played an instrument fyi

    6. Mike D. says:

I’m glad to see young brothers in here who know the real. It’s not even about hate/dislike for Beyonce…because she’s the TRUTH. She’s makes what she does look easy….singing and dancing. Most great female artists can only do ONE well. ie. Janet/dancing…Mariah & Whitney/singing…Y’all get my point…Oh Tina Turner…did BOTH like Bey.

But when Kanye brings up ARTISTRY is actually make people have to defend the artistry of the ALBUM MAKING PROCESS. Bey has dope songs & beats, etc. But it took like 30 ppl to make her thought and vision complete to the world. Whereas artist like Beck works with like one or two producers/engineers and prob like 2 other writers). That’s the artistry Ye is talking about. Shit…even Ye used MAD other musicians. He THINKS he;s Quincey Jones…but Ye can’t even play an instrument…which MOST Black artists can’t…but that’s a WHOLE other subject!

      Megamind

  6. 2 cents says:

Kanye thinks he’s king and he’s so thirsty for Queen B

  7. Don P says:

Fuck what yall talking bout Beyonce’s album was a moment in music. Completely shifted the way in which people drop albums and she fucking basically went platinum in 3 days with ZERO promo. Ye my nigga and yeah he could go about the shit better without shitting on Beck but its no way that shit was better or more impactful than Beyonce’s album. Thats fact & if you think otherwise you a fucking hater. Plain & simple

    1. yorapper says:

So commercial performance is more important than artistic merit? Isn’t that the same argument they use on the hip hop category?

  8. ITS ME says:

LOL!! Shut the fuck up dude!! This guy is an ignorant, racist asshole! How you people still like this guy is beyond me!!! NEWS FLASH KANYE WEST: YOU AREN’T THE BEST!!!! AND NEITHER IS BEYONCE!!! So get the fuck off your high horse and respect the fact that there are other extremely talented musicians in other genres of music! DUMB FUCK OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO THIS FUCKIN CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. DJ says:

To be honest, Prince should’ve kept the award for AOTY because Art Official Age is better than any of those albums. Bey’s album was pretty good, but ain’t no way she better than Prince.

  10. FREE SUGE says:

Kanye is an ass clown. If Beyonce dont win every award it’s somehow a crime against humanity and true artistry…. DOES BEYONCE EVEN WRITE HE OWN SONGS?

  11. M.A.T. says:

Beck played it off pretty well by giving the stereotypical politically correct response, but I’m waiting for Kanye to say this shit about someone who will tell him to fuck off. “Beck needs to respect artistry by giving his award to Beyonce.” Really? What about you respecting his artistry? Before he won, Beck had 4 Grammys. Beyonce has 20. I’m sure she will live without winning another god damn Grammy. People like him put way too much energy into winning these awards and the idea of prestige anyways.

  12. FREE SUGE says:

Where was Ye when Kendrick got snubbed last year? Does he only stick up for Jay-z’s wifey? Isn’t that Jay-z job?

Bitches like taylor swift get cocky when they get undeserved credit whereas real talent like Beyonce takes it further

I just wish Kanye would have knocked taylor out during the photo

  14. Peekay says:

Beyonce is a star with the looks and voice to match. Noone questions her talent. As far as artistry? I dunno, seems like there are multiple co-writers for every song of hers. Does she produce? Does she play any music? Does she write any of her own music? Best performer she could win but best artist? I’m not so sure.

My thing is..regardless of if Beyoncé plays an instrument or not….if u didn’t hear her album or becks then u can’t have an informed opinion on it…. 18. T says:

LOL judging by the comments a lot of you only like Bey because shes famous and SUPPER popular, quote her lyrics? name the director of one of her videos without using Google. Y’all ain’t true fans. Just like when Miguel lost that Grammy to Frank Ocean no one said shit. Kanye loves Bey so with that come bias opinions. FYI back in the days you couldn’t call yourself a musician if you couldn’t even strum a guitar. So for Kanye to say Beck isn’t a real artist is bullshit. Bey should have won because her album was dope not because she’s more of a artist then Beck because some would say Beck is the true artist not Bey. The Grammy’s need to regroup get fresh new and old people who know music, and knowing music doesn’t mean knowing whose POPPING are POPULAR. Beth Hart can sing circles around Bey does that mean Bey isn’t a real artist LOL? The Grammys are for popular people who say let’s spin a bottle and whoever it lands on wins a Grammy

  19. FOH says:

LOL @ a guy who uses 5 to 10 co producers and ghostwriters on every song
preaching to a mulch-instrumentalist about artistry and talent.

But that’s none of my business…..

    1. Starpoint feat Renee Diggs says:

      LOL!

  23. STRIK9 says:

Beyonce is just a glorified karaoke singer who can dance. Its amazing all the grammys her, jay, n kangaye have won considering that none of them can even play an instrument or compose music.

    1. So if an artist can’t play instrument or compose music they don’t have no kind of talent. That doesn’t make sense.

      1. STRIK9 says:

They don’t deserve to win a music award if they didn’t compose the actual music. Anyone can rap. Just go on world star any day..

    2. Brisco says:

kanye is a producer and him and jay-z both write their rhymes, just saying

      1. STRIK9 says:

Producing what? Sampling a bunch of old ass records n throwing them on a dusty ass drum sample hardly makes you a musician

        1. !ller says:

Ah but see thats what being an artist is all about he is being creative and breathing new life into old samples making them sound different and more up to date with todays music when you listen to his production it still produces feelings such as feel good and sad music. you have the two things mixed up an artist he is yes a musician not quite.

          1. STRIK9 says:

I know what the fuck he does. I make beats and occasionally I’ll sample too. But I can also play guitar n piano. Grammys are about music – not just being an ‘ artist’ I mean where do you draw the line with this shit? All it takes is one big hit and an asshole like Riff raff can win a Grammy lol? Fuck that.

          2. iller says:

If Riff raff wrote a hit song and won a Grammy for it it is what it is simple as that. its music no matter what way you wanna look at it. now would it be music to your taste? maybe not but everybody is different.

          3. STRIK9 says:

Its not music unless you are composing the sounds that make up the song. Just cause you wrote some fuckin lyrics don’t make you a musician. Scott starch or juicy j are musicians

          4. Chill says:

Dude are you really on a site called “rapradar” and dissing sampling? You just denigrated one of the foundational building blocks of hip-hop music.#slapyourself I guess J. Dilla, Pete Rock, Dr. Premiere, and Dr. Dre aren’t musicians then?

Websters Dictionary definition of musician: “a person who writes, sings, or plays music”

            I’m done with this guy.

          5. STRIK9 says:

I’m not dissing sampling at all. I do the shit myself sometimes, but I can also play guitar n piano. I’m just saying don’t call yourself a musician if you can’t play a fuckin instrument n all you CAN do is sample. Call yourself an ” artist” or some other shit, guy.

          6. Chill says:

Are they not “musical artist” i.e. Musician. You’re confusing a musician with an instrumentalist, guy. Just so you know.

Websters definition of instrumentalist: ” a person who plays a musical instrument”

            You’re welcome.

          7. STRIK9 says:

Kanye n jay don’t write, sing or play music. You know, like the definition in websters said. Like I said before, if you can’t do that shit, you ain’t a musician. Rappin some fuckin lyrics don’t make you a musician

          8. Chill says:

Oh ok, writing lyrics isn’t “writing music”.. #Dope And singing as oppose to rapping lyrics on a song doesn’t qualify either, huh. That makes no sense. And by the way, Kanye sang on 80% of 808s and Heartbreak. So you’re wrong even with your flawed logic. Music doesn’t just come from an instrument, homie. If you sing/rap acapella (without an instrument), it’s still music. That why the word acapella exists. Just stop, guy.

          9. STRIK9 says:

Right, writing lyrics isn’t writing music n just cause some asshole is rambling into a mic n throw in auto tune on it don’t make them a singer, let alone a musician. You can say..”oh there an artist or some shit like that, but they ain’t a musician. Kanye, Gucci, future…retards like that ain’t nothing like a quincy, prince,Dr dre(even though he uses hella ghostwriters n musicians) Bach or Eddie van halen

          10. Chill says:

I gave you an upvote. You need it, because you clearly need help. Kanye has had more impact on music than Beck has. He’s arguably the most impactful musician in the last decade. Again, music doesn’t have to come from an instrument. It’s difficult concept for you, I know. But it’s still music. That’s just fact, not opinion.

music definition: the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity; vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony.

Jay-Z and Kanye do that. If you can’t wrap your heard around that fact, I really don’t know what to tell you.

          11. STRIK9 says:

You’re a fuckin retard str8 up. Ok guy, so any idiot that can click his tongue n make popping sounds in his mouth is a musician huh? Any asshole basically talking to a drum beat is a musician huh? Gucci, future, riff raff, chief keef, french Montana are in the same league as Quincy Jones, Mozart, BB king, Steve vai? Lol, don’t say that shit out loud to any real working musicians because youll get clowned on. Your hopeless.

          12. Chill says:

And therein lies the problem. You’re arguing about the “quality of music” as opposed to what is “music.” One is opinion, and one is factual. I’m not talking about who’s best or who’s in what league, I’m talking about the definition of music.

You’re fighting the wrong battle, homie. And clearly you’re upset since you’ve resorted to name calling. I’m hopeless, but I’ve had to cite definitions to normal words for you and you still can’t get it.

Smart people know how to admit when they’re wrong. Just Chill.

          13. STRIK9 says:

You took this topic off base.I originally said Kanye,Bey, n Jay are not musicians and I’m right. The definition of a musician= a person who plays a musical instrument, especially as a profession and is musically talented. There is nothing else you can say so go lay down.

          14. Chill says:

No, homie. That’s not the definition of a musician. That’s the definition of an instrumentalist. I already gave you the definitions from webster’s dictionary. Here they are again though. You’re remedial out here, champ.

            http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/musician

            http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/instrumentalist

            Let it go…lol

          15. STRIK9 says:

Your own link just said, ” a person who writes, sings,or plays music. Kanye n jay dont “write” music- they dont have a fucking chart where they are writing out scales and chords. They dont ‘sing” either which is “making MUSICAL sounds with their voice” either, and we all sure as hell know they dont play instruments. Now kill yoself.

          16. Chill says:

LOL. This just in, rapping is not performing music. Per STRIK9. HA.

          17. STRIK9 says:

Exactly. it’s more like spoken word poetry to a rhythm. Now your getting the point.

  24. Kanye spoke the truth I like Beck but I didn’t know his album drop at all but his album was a good listen I don’t see how he won AOTY I don’t care who won that award hell they should gave it to Sam Smith if that was the case anyone but Beck in my opinion.

  25. Kingly_Caracter says:

Dawg!!! Kanye goes from smile to mug soooo fast. That shit is hilarious!

  26. Vins says:

Bey dropped a fucking album with videos for EVERY fucking song. That album had so much more impact on the music industry than Beck’s had. Not saying Beck isn’t a great artist, but we’re talking about the ALBUM right now, not the artist.

    1. Raydot says:

Beyonce’s album didn’t deserve any awards other then “Best Marketing
scheme of the year”. Take away the method in which it was released and
the sales and what your left with is another run of the mill female Pop
album with R&B influence. She has a great voice but there is
nothing special in what she does that a dozen other women don’t do.

      1. marty mcfly says:

The music on that album is strong fam. Idk what you talking about.

    2. Chronic says:

Yea were talking a about a MUSIC ALBUM…that you listen to…not fuckin watch.

  27. Jeina says:

Beck writer, producer, musician playing 16 instruments.
Then Kanye calling himself and that B “musicians” they can’t even make good melodies with those Fisher Price toys.
Seriously make him take a seat and shut up until kingdome comes !

    1. Chill says:

I don’t think Michael Jackson played any instruments. How does Beck’s album measure up to Thriller? Flaw in your logic perhaps? And to say Kanye and B can’t come up with “good melodies…” You really believe that, huh?

      1. Savimbi says:

Brah I don’t get it either lol

      2. FREE SUGE says:

Michael Jackson played the skin flute, cmon son everybody know that

      3. Jeina says:

Not saying if you don’t play an instrument you’re not a musician but please how can you say Beck isn’t ? Who will define “musician” as Beyoncé over Beck except people who judge music by twitter followers ?
Since you’re bringing MJ he said he never talked bad about a fellow artist because real artists don’t do that so…
BTW I really believe that Beyoncé can’t come up with a good melody with Fisher Price toys but yeah kills me to admit but Kanye would make a crazy beat with it…

        1. Chill says:

Who said Beck wasn’t a musician? And plenty of musicians talk badly about about other musicians.

Nobody said Beyonce was musician and Beck wasn’t. Beck’s a musician and an instrumentalist. People want to give him cred for that fact but that doesn’t mean you made the better album. That’s the point.

          1. Jeina says:

Well Kanye kind of said “we musician” talking against Beck meaning he doesn’t see him as a fellow but whatever with that fact Ye never makes sense.
If you want to think Beck won just because they want to give him credit for being a musician+instrumentalist it’s a shame but we all have our opinions !
At the end of the day it’s all about personal taste when it comes to music, AOTY will never please everybody.

      4. Mike D. says:

Quite the contrary…MJ could play piano and he wrote or co-wrote the majority of his catalog…he would come up with the melodies and Quincey would layer it up.

PS – Mike didn’t write his biggest hit ever, Thriller…it was written by a British white guy name Rod Temperton…

        Megamind

        1. Chill says:

Thanks for the info, homie. I didn’t know that.

          1. Mike D. says:

No doubt…we all in here debate our love for the culture fam!

The more I think about what Ye did…it actually puts Beyonce in the line of fire…bc now it’s having everyone dissect her content as if it’s NOT artistry. When she’s a phenomenal artist. But when you have to place her next to artist who could make an album without any help…her shit would be an accapella LOL

            Megamind

          2. Chill says:

Do we know for a fact she didn’t co-write the majority of her work? That’s my thing. No one really doubts she has an amazing catalog.

She’s been consistently putting out dope music for years. If anyone with a nice voice could do that, they would. She’s the common denominator, no matter who has written/co-written her work. And it’s like why do people (not you) have to diminish that.

          3. Mike D. says:

I do know for a fact she doesn’t sole write her own songs…it’s public record.

And i agree she’s really a one in a generation talent. This is really all Kanye’s fault. He opened her up to this scrutiny by doing that dumb shit last night.

            Megamind

  28. marty mcfly says:

I’m not the biggest Beyonce fan but there’s no way Beck or any artist period outdid her with an album, performance, impact or creativity… Thats just honest. If Katy Perry had released the same album with the same videos, people would be acting like she’s the new Michael Jackson. As an ARTIST Beyonce should’ve won that award and anybody who thinks otherwise is lying to themselves.

    1. STRIK9 says:

Beck is more respected because he composes all his own shit n wasnt a manufactured pop star like Beyonce is, and the grammy muthafuckas who vote on that shit know that. The only reason she got anywhere is because her n destinys child were hot as hell to begin with n then jay z married her which blew her up even more

      1. marty mcfly says:

Her album was better then Becks musically, artistically, creatively and made far more impact. Thats not a diss to Beck but im having alot of talent don’t mean he made better music then Beyonce did. Thats just being real and Beyonce was not manufactured to be a pop star. Beyonce was homegrown and trained in the art of singing and entertaining by her parents. Thats just a fact.

  29. herby says:

    FROM YOUTUBE:

“Beck is disrespecting art by not giving his award to Beyoncé.” – Kanye West.

    Kanye
is conveniently overlooking the fact that Beyoncé’s album featured 24
writers to write 14 tracks – not to mention about 300 technical
personnel and a multi-million dollar marketing campaign. Beck’s album
was written and produced in its entirety by Beck.

    Fuck Kanye:
he’s a fucking hack-fraud music snake-oil salesman, and for him to pass
judgement on another artist’s credibility while himself, Beyoncé and all
of his other fucking friends are riding on the coat tails of a studio
full of other talented people (while neglecting to acknowledge their
    contribution) is jaw-dropping hypocrisy.

    1. STRIK9 says:

Exactly. Nobody wants to hear that shit though. Look at all the big producers Kanyes weak ass had on his last album-and that shit still bombed.

    1. FREE SUGE says:

Iggy is about to get free Papa Johns pizza for life, thats winning if you ask me.

  30. Mike D. says:

As someone who works in the entertainment industry and a fan of all genres of music, the Grammy’s are somewhat important…but you can’t base everything around it! All the illuminati talk below is drivel and utter foolishness. First off, these awards are voted on by their peers. Anyone with 50 credits (songwriting, engineers, producing, etc.) and a Grammy membership can vote on who wins what in various categories. So in essence, the same “insiders” that complain need to turn their ballots in on time and overall VOTE….sounds familiar for us Black folk…hmmm (scratches chin!!!)

I’m a Beyonce fan AND a Beck fan. I haven’t heard his latest album but I own at least 4 of his albums. This is an ARTIST that’s 20 yrs deep into this game, so Ye’s dig at him was unwarranted. Because to keep it 100%…when people look at there categories…and A LOT of its bullshit…but in this instance. Beck pretty much wrote and produced this project by himself. When you look at Beyonce’s projects…ANY of them…their are like 20-30 writers/producers on them. For album of the year, they look for cohesiveness, theme…not just an amalgamation of songs by the hottest writers & producers on the scene. I’m not saying it’s not always correct (see Ye MBDTF, Usher – Confessions, JT Future Sex Love Sounds) but that’s usually the criteria.

Ye is the most ungrateful cat…this dude got 21 Grammys! 21!!! Nas, Pac, Bob Marley, The Who and other GREAT artists don’t have ONE. I get where he’s coming from he’s just going about it wrong. Because from an ARTISTRY stand point…Beck can play instruments and write his own songs…Beyonce can not…this is FACT. No diss…just stating the FACTS. The big dogs like her and Usher, etc. they get half the writing credits bc it’s almost an honor for you to work with them bc the song will be a bonafide hit….most times.

Again, the Grammys are a great award but don’t base your social-economic outlook on it. All the illuminati shit is bullshit! Now is there a tinge of racism..most def
