Although Yelawolf’s Love Story is hours from it’s release, his Eminem collabo “Best Friend” is already considered a standout. In an interview with MTV, Yela spoke on why he chose Em for the track. And while on the video set, Marshall explains how his verse came about. Purchase the album here.

What a good track! the entire album is fucking great to be honest. I’m familiar with yelawolf’s entire discography and this is by far his best work sonically! Do yourself a favor and go cop Love Story.

How is this album? I was a pretty big fan of Trunk Muzik but besides a few songs here and there I haven’t liked much since then.

Honestly, it’s not really clearly similar to either. I recommend just checking it out on spotify or youtube. There’s a huge range of musical styles.
A lot closer to Arena Rap if anything…

Album is excellent. This dude’s hooks are fantastic. Love that Beastie Boys vibe “Outer Space” and “Heart Break” is too catchy.
I liked the raw, folky feel of Love Story, and the album feels like a complete body of work, rather than a bunch of songs slapped together on a CD. A lot of people are going to be turned off by his new sound, but he would’ve gotten the same amount of criticism had he made Radioactive 2.0 or continued on his Trunk Muzik style.
Yela’s very open contempt for most rap fans is refreshing to me. Dude’s never been a natural people pleaser, and Love Story feels geniune as fuck because it comes from a real place.
Sidebar: It’s interesting how some of the best hip hop albums so far this year have steered AWAY from rap- Love Story; TPAB; So Help Me God (probably). And I get it. Between the trap bullshit, fickleness of rap fans and the hypebeast-ass blogs associated with traditional rap, I don’t blame any of these artists trying to distance themselves.
