Kendrick Lamar Receives Generational Icon Award

Now We All Can Celebrate.

Kendrick Lamar was recognized for his philanthropy yesterday by the California State Senate. For his service to the Compton Unified School District, K-Dot was honored the ’35th Generational Icon Award’ by State Senator Dr. Isadore Hall, III of the 35th District and California State Governor Jerry Brown.

“It’s definitely an honor to be right here in front of you guys,” said Kendrick. “Being from the city of Compton and knowing the parks that I played at and neighborhoods, I always thought how great the opportunity would be to give back to my community.”

  1. Kris Kompute says:

    K. Dot is planting some serious seeds. There’s going to be a whole generation of MC’s that are direct descendants of his. He’s a modern day civil rights leader. Exactly what a true hip hop artist is supposed to be.

  2. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

There is dick riding… And then there is this.

Sidebar: I commend him for the work in his community, but rap game wise cmon now, two albums in on the major scene.

    1. TheTruthHurts says:

What are you complaining about? You commend him because of his work with his community which is what the article is about but shit on him for only having 2 albums? So the amount of albums you have out affects if you can be rewarded for being an uplifting figure? Major dick riding… This is a website for Hip-Hop news, if seeing something positive like this isn’t what you want to see then you’re not helping the culture at all. Go to Worldstar or whatever if you want ratchet and music videos in your face nonstop, but I enjoy seeing a real piece of info presented now and again instead of Rae Shremmurd and Migos videos…

      1. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

You missed the point. The hype behind this puts him in positions that other are equally deserving – that’s where dick riding comes in
I talked about the two albums to say he is celebrated in a way that you’d believe he has put in way more work then TWO ALBUMS. This isn’t a bad thing I said I commend him for it and a but I felt that needed to be pointed out.

Sidebar: just because every time you see a migos video it breaks your hip hop heart, doesn’t mean you have to throw them under the bus to make other artists look good. That’s hater behavior

        1. Word says:

He put out an instant classic in GKMC, and one of not only the most critically acclaimed hip hop albums of all time, but ALBUM of all time too in TPAB. So yeah, those two albums carry a lot of weight bro.

          1. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

I don’t believe in “instant classics”

        2. TheTruthHurts says:

This has nothing to do with his music really though so that’s why I don’t understand why you are so stuck on that. This is about his support for the community, and no other artists from that area have the appeal and reach as well as the positivity from that area. So who would be more deserving? What position does it put him in that he wasn’t already projected to go? A award for positivity in the community isn’t deserved because of only 2 albums? You make zero sense.

You clearly missed my point with what I said about Migos. I said I like to see this type of article in the mix with the others. Just because I don’t like a type of music doesn’t mean I think it shouldn’t be out there or enjoyed by others. People love to hate and shit on artists anytime they get appreciated, just like Kanye yesterday. When we should be supporting and uplifting our community to longevity. You call me a hater? Look at your whole backhanded post and check yourself.

          1. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

No other artist would be more deserving? Lmao the dick riding continues!!!

Sidebar: Kanye west is 10 years plus in this game, when he gets an accolades like that its unquestionable

          2. TheTruthHurts says:

Don’t misquote me. I said what other artist is more deserving and I meant it as a real question which you avoided like a bitch. This is a Generational Award from the California Senate. So that means the artist would have to be from California and also be effecting their generation. Kendrick fits into both categories. Stop sidebaring like a faggot and just say it hahaha. If Illinois wanted to give Kanye an award like this I wouldn’t argue at all. This is like your fighting yourself.. Go back to school before you try to make statements.

        3. GetReal says:

he has put in work though just cuz you are JUST finding out about him when he dropped GKMC doesnt mean his day 1 fans don’t know the work he had to put in to get there

          1. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

I get that and I know about that, now I just don’t see “generational icon” when I look at it

    2. The Gary Group says:

Right. No Snoop, Dre,Game, Cube? They make up awards for something every year

      1. TheTruthHurts says:

You must be high, those guys have all received awards in the past.. Delusional people here today.

        1. The Gary Group says:

Have they received this made up award tho? Get off my dick boi

          1. TheTruthHurts says:

Do you know how an award gets started? You make one. Boi? Clearly your a faggot if your using the word boi. Go get fucked in the ass homo clown.

          2. The Gary Group says:

Can’t argue with a faceless internet nigga about an award neither one of us has. You win

          3. TheTruthHurts says:

Yeah I do win but only because you make stupid statements. Keep up the good work, you make yourself look really smart and good here!

          4. GetReal says:

i really don’t knowwtf you gettin at the man got the the award for his contributions to his community, get off his dick and just salute the man for it

          5. TheTruthHurts says:

Yeah lets give everyone the award the first year! That’s a great idea! Shut the fuck up.

    3. FactsOnly says:

Notorious B.I.G released 2 studio albums before he died, and a third posthumously yet he’s considered one of the GOAT so what’s your point?

      1. Mr.Stealyogurl says:

I don’t agree with that, Jay Z is GOAT so

  3. Damien says:

King Kunta! These simple minded greedy rap jokers need to take notes … ” I’m not saying I’ll change the world but I’ll spark the minds of the ones that will ” – Pac

  4. Joni says:

Wtf people over exaggerate this nigga..he did 2 good albums ..and niggas think he changed the world..his albums don’t even reach the masses ..his music is for the 10 percent of hiphip heads who hate on popular music and champion unsuccessful music

    1. TheTruthHurts says:

Artists can affect a community besides just their music moron.

    2. Shock says:

Unsuccessful? His album damn near went gold first week. Its being called a classic, and is one of the most important social commentary rap albums in decades. You are ridiculous and a hater.

  5. Donn says:

I’m confused. This man is uplifting us as a people, making meaningful music and not bring the coon the labels want us to be and u seriously gonna give him shit??? But u give props to niggas who sell drugs and rap about dumb shit

  6. So Icy Boi! ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ says:

Kendrick Lamar is full of shit. this little delusional nigga thinks he is dope. lmao. his new album is trash…… horrible beats!!! I cant even understand his wack ass lyrics. swag

    1. Iamstillmusic says:

But you’re the one commentating on this post so obviously he’s doing something right? His new album was too DEEP for you simpletons that are used to loud beats and no substance. Go listen to French Montana

      1. TheTruthHurts says:

This guy is a Lil Wayne and Young Thug dickrider so don’t take him seriously haha. The swag at the end tells you everything you need to know.

      2. Dope says:

        He’s a troll dude, it’s obvious.

    2. Shock says:

      You trolling.

    3. Mokh says:

      is this sarcasm?!

    4. Guest says:

“IF HUFFING PAINT IS WRONG THEN I DON’T WANT TO BE RIGHT!” – MR. SO ICY BOI

      P.S. – KILL YASELF!!!

    5. Belize says:

i took the time to really listen to Kdot’s new jawn..i had to upgrade the album from meh to solid. I made my own playlist, had to scrap all the skits and 1 or 2 tracks. I wish all the songs had Blacker The Berry feel, but overall brah, i know u a troll, but troll ur ass to a headset and hear it again

    6. PREMERE says:

So bitch boi is full of shit. this little delusional nigga thinks he is a gangster. lmao. his whole life wack…… horrible comments!! I cant even understand his wack ass sentences. swag

      1. So Icy Boi! ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵃᶜᶜᵒᵘᶰᵗ says:

    8. MassConglom says:

      Gucci Mane threads are #ThatAWay.

  7. Iamstillmusic says:

Why are people here hating on someone who is giving back to their community? K.Dot is the best new artist since Kanye West and he’s leading a civil rights movement with his music. If this was Drake getting recognition from Toronto or the Raptors, it’s a power move. The impact of his music ALONE, merits this award.

    1. The problem is this generation doesn’t understand or know how to be proud of being Black. Our young people are being poisoned Mentally, Spiritually and Physically, and the sad part is that they dont even know it.

Regardless of how you feel about Kendrick Lamar’s music, this is something that effects Black People all across the country. What he is trying to accomplish we all should jump at the chance to support him.

There is a war going on, and its time for the Universal Family (Black People) to wake up from their slumber and get back to changing humanity for the better.

      Peace!

  8. el jim chapo guzman says:

The Blacker the Berry’ made most of the point that you guys are trying make here…it basically describes the ‘black’ problem of the ‘blacks’ struggle. Racism is still a problem and Black Americans are still at a disadvantage

    1. Kris Kompute says:

Realest shit you’ve posted in months. Kudos.

      1. el jim chapo guzman says:

Once you turn 30, it’s like they take the heart and soul out of a man — out of a black man — in this country,The only one taking the heart and soul out of black men is the black community. You allow yourselves to be put in to chains by the low expectations of those around you.

        1. Kris Kompute says:
