Jay Z Freestyles & Reunites State Property In NYC

Be The Flow.

Jay Z took to the Terminal 5 in NYC this evening for the first night of his ‘B-Sides’ concert. During the evening, he kicked a flow taking a few jabs at his competitors including Spotify, Google and Youtube.

Afterward, Hov was joined by Memphis Bleek, Jay Electronica, Jeezy and State Property (Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Young Chris and Neef Buck). The chain remains.

    1. I hope your not Black talking that house nigga shit. And im by no means a Hov fanboy, but when do us as black folks decide to stop riding the Caucasian bandwagon?? I rather support Tidal than iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, Youtube and any other company thats trying to out do a Black owned company. #factsonly

      1. L Train says:

It’s not black owned, it a Swiss company last time I checked honkys owned the parent company

        1. Wrong!! Jay Z brought Tidal, his company owns its now.

          1. L Train says:

Your really stupid that coon bought shares into a parent company! Fuck tidal that shit is bullshit your just a dickhead who follows whatever. Don’t write back cause I won’t read it I gotta stop letting dummies communicate with me

          2. I can’t stand you so called wannabe “Progressive Blacks” Your ignorant asses are always quick to find fault in something black folks do just because your preprogrammed to hate yourselves and love “White Supremacy.”

Again I’m not the biggest Jay Z supporter, but I do recognize his work ethic and his desire to become extremely wealthy, all while servicing black folks from our community with well needed jobs.

You rather continue to support “White Supremacy” by making excuses on why we, or people of the community shouldn’t support Jay Z.

You rather our people spend our hard earned money on Apple inc, Nike inc, and all these other fortune 500 companies that support and fund “White Supremacy.”

Sorry fella some of us do have Knowledge of Self and we will always bet on Black regardless of the circumstances.

            Peace!!

  29. brza says:

Okay here is my problem with Jay and let’s be clear that while I respect him for everything that he has done for the Hip Hop culture I just feel that he is beginning to sound salty about how this whole Tidal fiasco and how it’s unfolding! Taking shots at Spotify YouTube iPhone sales Phil Knight etc is a bit childish bc let’s be honest he’s not doing this shit for free either! He’s out to make a profit just like the next man. The consumer is completely absent in this equation. We’ll get the music one way or the other. So now that he’s decided to venture into the streaming business these companies are problem? If he wasn’t invested would it matter? Of course not bc again he’s not doing this for free! He can reunite whomever he wants but that is all besides the point! I am sure that some may disagree with this statement but this is just my opinion and I could be wrong. Stay up

    1. marty mcfly says:

The difference is if Jay was white doing the same shit, people would say he’s a great business man and not have shit negative to say but being he’s black he can’t get props for shit. Everything Jay does is always looked down upon. He can’t even make money without being hated on. He can’t even promote artists being in control of their own art without being hated on. Also there is a BIG difference in percentages for the artists between Tidal and those other companies.

      1. brza says:

And then we have people like yourself who ALWAYS bring race into the picture as if that has ANYTHING to do with my opinion? I grew up on Jay so don’t get it twisted McFly. I literally deep sigh every time somebody ruins a healthy conversation by pulling the race card! Why can’t we just have a discussion as human beings? If Jay was this passionate about streaming services he would’ve rallied years ago without Tidal being in the picture. The term “hating” is so overused these days it’s ridiculous. People can’t even have an opinion anymore without immediately being labeled a “hater”? Put it this way – Say that you’re great at something but it’s not my “cup of tea” I will still acknowledge your talent. Take country music for instance – I can’t stand the shit but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Garth Brooks is dope at what he does! Get my drift? Stay up

        1. marty mcfly says:

Did you listen to the freestyle? Jay mentions race so of course I brought it up because I agree with what he implied. Jay “The only one they hating on looks the same as you”… Outta all the white corporate people making money off black peoples music and paying the artist less then 1% of what they earned, I don’t hear nobody talking shit about any of them. Jay says fuck that, do it independently like I did my entire career (Rocafella) and get 100% of what your worth and then people talking shit about Jay? You saying I brought up race? The freestyle brought up race.

          1. brza says:

Valid point! I just feel like being white is a curse nowadays! Not all white people are racist and not all white businessmen and women are racist! On another note Sigel on stage with Jay again was way too cold. Shit had me geeked. Stay up

          2. marty mcfly says:

You feel like being white is a curse nowadays? Welcome to many black people’s reality for the last 5 centuries. At the end of the day as far as american society is concerned, who’s more likely be treated fairly across the board in all areas of american society? A white person or a black person? Everything a black man says about race is “pulling the race card” even when its true. Yes the issue has a little to do with race in this conversation but thats only cause its true. I never hear people saying you know Jimmy Iovine is fucked up for making 100s of millions off rappers but not paying them even 5% of that money.

          3. brza says:

What would you have me do as a white American at this point? Serious question! How can I help? Where do we go from here? I have been asking this question for YEARS! I grew up in an all black neighborhood and BELIEVE me my brother and I were the minorities. I dealt with discrimination on a daily basis! “White Bread” this and “Wonder Bread” that! Getting my ass kicked for simply being the whiteboy in the neighborhood! Can you believe that? True story whether you choose to believe it or not! So you can see why I may see things just a bit differently and I am not saying this to sympathize for what white people did 150 years ago. It disgusts me. And I wish it never happened but it did. I have have nothing but love for those who choose to accept it! Stay up

          4. marty mcfly says:

There is nothing you can do because the source of whats going on in america isn’t you, its the people that represent your interests which make up a few different various groups that hold power within the walls of congress. There are battles that exist there right at this moment so its not just about 150 years ago, its also about right now. Next time somebody black tries to kick your ass, fight back but I’m not gonna ask you for your help in regards to black people but if somebody black makes a comment about race and you decide to jump in front of that bullet? Then it would appear your in support of the reasons why those various groups up in DC support your interests over everybody else’s. Which would be because your white and I’m not. Now you can choose not to believe that but the devil is in the details of the politics. Oh an spare me with the oh the president is black because america is a huge power structure and its people up there you have had power in DC since Obama was riding his bike to elementary school.

          5. brza says:

But can you somewhat understand where I am coming from? I want to be proactive and be apart of positive change and always have been but I get laughed at it like “What would you know about this whiteboy?” and the answer is NOTHING! I know nothing about what it’s like to be an African American in the US but don’t turn away those of us who do care

          6. marty mcfly says:

The thing is this, Im black but do I get along with every black person or cosign everything every black person does? Of course not. If there is an issue that I agree upon, then I may offer a particular set of skills (Liam Neeson voice) and information to address the cause. Now when I align myself with others based upon addressing that issue, it aint just gonna be because they the same race as me, its gonna be because they can bring something to the table which can bring about positive progression to the cause. If you wanna help a cause then you can align yourself with other black people but it can’t just be because they black, they gotta be about something as well. I’m black and I’m about helping black people but if I know that middle american ghettos with white people are being targeted for americas “war on drugs”, and private prison industry then me being a black person already has an opinion about what thats about and why america builds more prisons then schools… At that point there is a common denominator between the struggle of a black person and a white person within these kinda areas. I’m not gonna do anything purely based on being black, I’m gonna address a specific issue which leads to other things where race is involved.

          7. AthrazhuR says:

“I just feel like being white is a curse nowadays!”

          8. brza says:

Slowly but surely! I knew somebody would spin this around! Never mind

    2. eastpointvet says:

listen to the freestyle he is talking to u

      1. brza says:

I listened to every word! As if a Jay freestyle is going to open my eyes to something that we already knew? Like I said I respect Jay and grew up on his music (actually Nas more so but that’s besides the point) but these are their problems not the consumers! We will get the music one way or the other. Stay up

    3. xedos says:

did you listen to the verse? the man said people buy 9 iphones and Nike sneakers and all these white boys get rich and no one complain about they’re greedy. he said the only person they complain about making money is the one who look like you which is black. look how much bad press he got just for launching his company. he went on to say why i have been saying for weeks now . he said Google and Jimmy Lovine try to cut him a check for him to endorse their product. even Pharell told him to take the cheque. he said he came into the game independent and that’s how he want to be. During segregation black business strive . it was so could the white man got jealous and slaughter blacks in Oklahoma. look up “black wall street in Oklahoma”. Once segregation end, blacks took their business to the white man . the black business’ failed the black community failed.

Lmao…. I see u took down the picture of him with the Hitler hand gestures!!! You wouldnt wanna upset Rosenberg the owner of this hiphop website now would you darkie lol its too late the damage was done. Jay z always doing some foolishness with his hands niggas smart he knows what hes doing.

  36. yorapper says:

The difference between Steve Jobs and Jay Z is that Steve Jobs never made songs about his networth. So bringing up Jay’s wealth is fair game in regards to Tidal making rich artists already richer. Jay bringing up his skin color is the reason he’s being attacked is really low brow and in bad taste considering the majority of his customers are white.

    1. brza says:

This guy gets it! Thank you

    2. marty mcfly says:

You know its true though. For all the white people making a killing off music that they barely pay the artists a dime for, their never attacked for any of their business in music. Of course Steve Jobs never made songs because he aint an artist but his worth was out there. The thing is he’s respected for making money, Jay is disrespected for making money. Race is connected to that whether people wanna admit it or not. If a white man came out with Tidal there would be zero backlash.

      1. brza says:

No he’s not! I purchased all of his albums throughout the years therefore adding to his wealth so your statement has no validity! You can’t be this naive? I love seeing Jay win. I just happen to not care about this Tidal “Black vs White” bs that he’s rapping about! What does he want us to do? Protest for him? Make anti-establishment bumper stickers? Knock off every white businessman and woman? If you’re an artist and you signed on the dotted line maybe you should read the contract next time! Sheesh. Stay up

        1. marty mcfly says:

My statement does have validity or else this conversation wouldn’t exist. People are talking shit about Jay in regards to Tidal right? And the freestyle has to do with race in regards to reasons why people have so much to say about Tidal but yet they ain’t going at Spotify and Youtube and various other record companies etc… for raping the culture 100x beyond the level Jayz ever did. Thats what my comments are talking about. Now you’ll put it back on the artists by saying they should read the contract? Ok but thats a dodge to get away from the fact you know what I’m saying and what Jayz is implying about the business practices of the record companies run by people who happen to white is true. You’ll say anything to keep anybody white outta the conversation as long as there’s a nigga to focus the aim of your criticisms on. Now on a surface level you can say yeah, my comments are only about race. On the surface and below it you know the only reason I could even make a comment about race being a factor is because it was already part of the equation.

          1. brza says:

You can’t force the consumer to purchase a product that they don’t want! Maybe they enjoy Spotify or whatever it is (I don’t use streaming services). For instance – I cannot force you to put down whatever smartphone it is that you’re currently using right now and go purchase the competitors version? Right? You’d tell me to eff off! You have a choice on what you support. Think about it! If Tidal as a product is as good as Jay is saying then the consumer will gravitate towards it. They’re speaking as if we the consumers are idiots? Let us makes our own decisions! And hopefully you have Tidal bc this conversation would be extremely redundant if not. Stay up

          2. marty mcfly says:

Nobody is suggesting that consumers should be forced to get Tidal. The thing is if Spotify makes 1000 dollars off other people’s music for every 1 penny Jay makes on Tidal? Nobody seems to have an issue with that expect for saying Jay is a greedy, piece of shit, mean spirited con man for making his 1 penny while I guess everybody else is cool for doing exactly the things Jay is not doing and saying he’s against. Jay aint forcing people to do shit. He’s uses the word “independent” so many times to convey a message that I guess even that is a problem for people?

          3. yorapper says:

The thing is if Jay came out with Tidal 10 years ago, about the time Spotify started, it would have been revolutionary. Jay is coming at this ten years too late and with basically a me-too product. Tidal is using a very similar layout to Spotify as well as damn near same icons and it just looks like a cheap imitation. Jay throwing in the race card or hip hop card or artist card is just marketing, to try to differentiate a clone product. It’s no different than a few years ago when every rapper was coming out with their own social network.

          4. marty mcfly says:

You say its Jay throwing in the race card? but if its the truth then its not just a card, its the actual reality of the situation. If labels and music services that are owned by white people have been ripping off artists for decades now and Jay says it out loud then its the truth and there is no alternative opposed to what Jay has already implied about the backlash he got thus far about Tidal because the backlash has already happened. Does race play a key role? YES, why because again, if Jay was a white multi billionaire doing the same shit but only worse by continuing to rip of artists…. NOBODY would have a single negative comment to say. Jay is talking about giving the artists their worth and he’s the bad guy but yet when white people rip off the artists since forever and all they got was support for it. You only call it a race card issue because there is nothing else to combat what he implied about the situation. Oh and it doesn’t matter if Jay is late to the party because he started Rocafella in 95, that was his Spotify before Spotify.

          5. yorapper says:

The thing is Tidal doesn’t give any more to the artists than Spotify does. They give the exact same amount. It’s only when a subscriber whose paying $20 a month, double the price of Spotify, is when the streaming royalty is doubled (makes sense). Jay is just paying lip service to artists, when in actuality he’s doing the same thing other streaming services are doing. Also Spotify pays out a huge amount to artists it’s in the billions, they haven’t even turned a profit. They get the pass because they brought this idea of streaming to the masses, to replace downloads. Comparing Rocafella in ’95 selling cds out of their trunk to Spotify revolutionizing music consumption on a massive scale a crazy reach.

          6. marty mcfly says:

Yes Tidal does give more to artists then Spotify. Alot more. Spotify doesn’t pay out a huge amount to artists either. Now if your a signed artist with millions of pay then yeah they pay the label but for the indie artists with millions of plays, they paying them a low percentage vs what they keeping. Tidal is offering artists way better rates. The reason I brought up Rocafella is because you said Jayz came to the business late (comparing Tidal to Spotify), well not exactly because Jayz is also an artist that has had a record label since the mid 90s so he been in the game in another capacity and I don’t know if you know or not but Jayz and Rocafella was on a massive scale long before Spotify. Rocafella had about 20 artists, Spotify has like a million artists so the difference in money being generated makes sense. Spotify is run on the computer, Rocafella was before streaming on computers. Now if you say Tidal is copying Spotify? To be honest with you, I would’nt give a fuck. Its called free market because your free to do what you want when you start a business.

          7. marty mcfly says:

Source for what? Tidal? I mean the information on the site been out for months now. Do your googles.

          8. David BigDro Dorsey says:

i feel you.. but if it came down to it.. i’d rather give my money to Jay before giving it to Spotify.. One of our own people. not meaning black.. but just us as americans.. We don’t know who owns spotify.. why give them all our money?

          9. yorapper says:

Cause they have the better product and Spotify has a free tier unlike Tidal.

          10. xedos says:

but you also should not finance bad press for a product that was not even om the market as yet. the press starting write negative stories from the moment jay Z bought the company.

          11. Dark Matters says:

You’re a world class sh*t for brains buffoon.

“You can’t force the consumer to purchase a product that they don’t want!”

Since when did stating the facts become forcing consumers to pay for a product they don’t want? Are you of sound mind? That’s your argument?

The fact of the matter is Jay Z/Tidal is being unreasonably scrutinized. Meanwhile companies like Youtube base their whole business model on stolen content, that they don’t compensate content creators for. Are you out of your fawking mind?

Most rap albums that come out can be found on Youtube for free, without the artist getting compensated a dime. Some of the albums have paid advertising. So someone (Youtube) is making money and not compensating the artist. Youtube is worth several billion dollars. Not a peep gets uttered about it and you’re here advocating against a guy who charges consumers for product that costs money to make? Are you stupid? Yes you are. GTFO

        2. xedos says:

The average worker who makes Iphone makes $36 a month. Apple sell it for $700, yet people say jay z is greedy.White people always think blacks don’t have any use for money They pay you less that the the guy working beside you doing the same job. when apple took over the way people buy music no one complain. they call Steve jobs genius.had a black person came up with that idea, the media would tear it apart. I bet when apple comes out with their streaming service all these writers will call it genius. I think lots of these reporters who wrote these negative stories are bought and paid for by apple. They did the same thing to Blackberry.

        3. thetruth says:

THATS NOT HIS POINT………HIS POINT IS WHY ARE THEY HATING ON ME FOR MAKING MONEY WHEN WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO DONT GIVE US NOTHING DONT LIVE WHERE WE LIVE, NOT FROM WHERE WE FROM BUT MAKE TRILLIONS ON US. SOME OF THESE OWNERS OF THESE COMPANIES ARE RACIST. YOU THINK STERLIN IS THE ONLY ONE, WHAT DO YOU THINK HE AND IS LIKE MINDED FRIENDS SIT AND TALK ABOUT.
AND LETS NOT ACT LIKE FOR YEARS WE AS BLACKS HAVE NOT BEEN HATING ON EACH OTHER KILLING EACH OTHER AND SELLING EACH OTHER TO BECOME SLAVES….SOMETHING IS CLEARLY WRONG SOMEWHERE.

      2. yorapper says:

Steve Jobs wasn’t respected for making money, he actually lived pretty humble for a billionaire. He’s respected for not doing things that were good for business, in other words Apple’s bottom line, and instead doing things that were good for consumers. Jay Z is almost the exact opposite.

        1. marty mcfly says:

You think he wasn’t respected for making money but he was and no Jay isn’t doing bad business which would be the opposite of good business. I mean the fact you would consider doing something good for the consumers (as well as artists) a bad thing is interesting. Again if Jay was a greedy white man that wanted 100% of all the artists money on title, nobody would say shit. The fact Jay is a black men thats wants the artists to keep 100% of their own earnings and people wanna hate on that? Is amazing.

          1. yorapper says:

No I said Steve Jobs was respected for putting consumers first, rather than his company. Jay Z is the opposite, he puts his company first rather than consumers.

          2. Dark Matters says:

“Putting consumers first” by charging them $499 for an iphone, while paying people slave wages in China and running a manufacturing operation so draconian that people were committing suicide? You’re an idiot with selective regard for the facts.

All of a sudden when a black guy charges consumers for something that costs money to make it’s not “putting consumers first”. You’re a moron with a capital M.

          3. yorapper says:

I wish you the best bro.

          4. marty mcfly says:

Steve Jobs put his company first because the consumer wouldn’t get no products if the company wasn’t put first. Thats like saying Jayz puts music over his fans? Well of course because he would have no fans if he didn’t make music. Thats like saying Jay puts Rocafella over Def Jam? Well of course because the Roc was his company and Def Jam was not (in the early days). The company was Jayz, he is the company and you gotta put yourself first or else you’ll have nothing to offer any consumers.

          5. yorapper says:

I don’t even know what to say man. But I wish you luck in life.

          6. marty mcfly says:

Its nothing to say, its common sense Steve Jobs put Apple first. You don’t get consumers before you build a brand, its always the other way around first. Steve Jobs definitely didn’t put millions of people he doesn’t know and doesn’t give a shit about over a company he worked on for years.

        2. Sincere1983 says:

You do realize everything Steve Jobs did was for the bottom line, right? It’s pretty basic stuff I mean its the reason you couldn’t add 3rd party songs to your ipod why they use a lightning cable instead of an industry standard mini/micro usb

          1. yorapper says:

Not even worth responding to you or insulting you.

    3. Dark Matters says:

gtfoh You myopic simpleton. Those songs are what got Jay his net worth. So, clearly his customers didn’t mind it.

There are three levels to the hate Jay is getting at this point. One is broke ass black people who can’t stand to see him win again, when they can’t figure out how to get into “the game” – let alone win. The second is white people who don’t like rap and can’t stand to see a black person “with a dime when they’ve got a nickel” and the third is those who stand to lose business-wise, if Tidal picks up steam.

There’s a convergence of these three elements in a chorus of “we can’t stand rich artists getting richer”. The fact is Jay didn’t need a government bailout to get his wealth. He made it all legally. Nor did he need to stiff people out of their pensions to get his wealth. All of the aforementioned, applies to quite a few rich white people, who go without so much as a peep from the same idiots who are pissed a black guy’s smashing the odds and doing so with relative ease and mastery.

      1. yorapper says:

You’re smart but I suggest continuing to be an employee, because if you ran a business, it would fail.

  37. mike h says:

The reunion almost brought a tear to my eye.

  38. EastOakland510 says:

Jay just used these Niggas don’t expect anything to develop from this

    1. thetruth says:

SHUT THE FUCK UP…..YOU THINK JAY NEEDS THEM NIGGAS.

      1. EastOakland510 says:

He obviously needed them for his show ya fucking fudge packing peter gazer

  39. Sina Mailer Daemon Djavadkhani says:

Hov in his element! Crowd response off the hook!

  40. Extra Domus says:

Jay Z was just thirsty to get a buzz going for Tidal, it’s the only reason he brought back the ROC. Strictly business

  41. @WorldFamous_Kev says:

I Wish I Could Support TIDAL Simply For What He Is and Is Trying To Do With It, BUT I DON’T STREAM MUSIC, I GO and BUY THE DAMN RECORD (HARD COPY, CD FORMAT) LIKE WE’RE SUPPOSED TO. THE INTERNET MESSED THIS WHOLE THING UP. I USED TO LOVE H.E.R
