Look, I’ll be the first to say I think Drake makes dope music. I also think Meek is saying all of this more for publicity or out of anger — maybe something having to do with nicki — than wanting to warn the public. However, none of this changes the fact that what Meek is saying is probably true. We all know, we just don’t want to believe. Drake can’t freestyle, rarely does his content in his music ever change, and his flow has been very lazy the past year or so. Its not even necessarily bad that Drake uses a ghostwriter, as most pop stars (Beyonce, Taylor Swift, etc) do. What I have a problem with is people call this dude the “best rapper alive”. How can someone like him, who even though he makes great music, doesn’t write his rhymes and almost never talks about anything other than women and wealth, be compared to someone like, I don’t know, Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick has put out two classic albums, takes risks with the instrumentation and content of his music, has crazy bars, and still sells lots of records. To me, it just isn’t really fair. Drake should forever be in the category of Eazy E, Dr. Dre, and whoever else is considered a legend and makes great music, but clearly is not looked at as a legendary MC.
