How is there not one post on here about Dr. Dre’s “Compton” album? One of the dopest albums in the last 10 yrs and not one mention? That intro track had my face melting! Amazing production from start to finish

    1. drewsmit24 says:

Sadly we live in a age of ADHD but im sure the movie will complement the music and give it more shine. How are the lyrics? Production has never been what holding hip hop back, its the message.

      1. brza says:

I think the lyrics and wordplay are top notch but you make a great point also there is just no pleasing today’s listeners. Next to “TPaB” this is definitely one the Hip Hop albums of they year

      2. TheTruthHurts says:

I think the message in Compton is stronger than any message that was supposed to get across in the other albums. The lyrics on this album are a lot deeper than 2001 content wise easily.

    2. Kris Kompute says:

Please. That album is average at best. Take Dre’s name off and put “Producer X” with the exact same music and you niggas wouldn’t be saying shit.

      1. brza says:

I definitely would’ve approached the album differently but with that said I still think it’s a dope album

      2. ilexx says:

This is kinda true. I can’t front.

The album is not average though. There are various elements that make it far greater than average but I’ve only listened to it twice and haven’t really gotten to sit with it yet.

It’s definitely not garbage in any way but I feel like this Dr. Dre album suffers from something that was always there in his music but its more present here.

Because he users other writers, he doesn’t have a distinct flow and his voice can get lost in the sauce. I spend a little while wondering if it’s Dre spitting, esp because there are a few unknowns that I didn’t know what they sounded like.

        1. Kris Kompute says:

Valid points, I do that too.

I love as feeling the outro. Especially when he started talking about nwa. Then I was like “this nigga ain’t even write this” lol

          1. ilexx says:

Yeh lol. There are definitely moments when Dre’s presence is felt though.

I want to sit with the album over a drink and a spliff, then see how I feel.

    3. TheTruthHurts says:

I honestly think it’s because you can only get the album on iTunes, and initially it was streaming on iTunes Radio or whatever and YN is jocking Hov so he has to ride with Tidal. That’s all I can think of. The album is dope, I listened to it multiple times yesterday and today.

  2. drewsmit24 says:

Cyhi goes in but bein from Atl/Chi probably hurts him. Drill and trap fans aint stunnin lyrics. He just gotta keepin rappin and find his way

    1. Kris Kompute says:

Being from Chi hasn’t hurt chance, Vic Mensa or any of the other alternative rappers. He just isn’t a good song writer

      1. drewsmit24 says:

I agree he could use a Quentin Miller ?but Chance and Vic (who kanye and J Took to his current level a success ) have majority white fan base. That will keep you afloat.

        1. Kris Kompute says:

Every rapper from Chicago has a majority white fanbase. Chief keef included. White high school kids loved him.

          1. drewsmit24 says:

Except Cyhi who after dropping some solid projects is as hot as he was after his “So Appalled” verse

  3. Kris Kompute says:

This is y’all heir to the GOOD music throne? SMH.

Stop complaining about how Ye don’t give him a chance. Cyhi is a dope lyricist/wordplay artist but a horrible songwriter.

    This shit is ass.

    1. marty mcfly says:

The Black Hystori Project was one of the best if not thee best album last year from a song writer perspective. Listen to Basquiat again, from a song writing standpoint thats one of the best songs written last year. “When it comes to art, I’m the man bro, fans follow me every where my Van Gogh” -Cyhi

        1. Berner says:

          That mixtape is a classic

        2. Savimbi says:

          Monumental!!!!

    2. ilexx says:

In no way is this CyHi’s best. Alot of his fans even feel he shouldn’t have released this at all but I kinda feel like this is a parody on the current flow rappers are hyping up. I think he believed he was doing a great job spitting like this but I don’t believe this was executed that well.

CyHi a beast though and he def does have some decent songwriting skills. I’d say just keep paying attention.

      1. Kris Kompute says:

I’ve been paying attention for 5 years. He’s in the same boat as jay electronica to me. All hype that is irrelevant at the end of the day.

        1. ilexx says:

That’s a harsh comparison. CyHi has so much material you can dig into if you choose too.

But I like both dudes and expect big things from both. I do have higher hopes for Jay Elec.

I feel like if you’ve listened to most of the material both of those guys have, there is no way you can just chalk it up to hype. I can at least understand why there are ppl out there routing for them to no end.

          1. Kris Kompute says:

Cyhi is dope. No question about it. But to be a rap superstar you have to be able to write commercially appealing songs (unless your name is Nas and you came in the game in ’94).

Cyhi has yet to prove he can do that. There are thousands of dope lyricists all over the Internet. But how many of them can pen great songs while keeping their artistic integrity? That’s what separates the great ones.

          2. ilexx says:

I won’t say he has done anything great but he has a few stuff that could’ve done well for him if they got label support.

I agree that he still has a bit to prove in the songwriting regard.

          3. marty mcfly says:

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to write Cyhi’s last two mixtapes and NOT be able to write great songs. First off Cyhi wouldn’t have to change anything, go get the latest pop star to sing a hook on a club record and there you go but the thing is maybe he doesn’t wanna be like everybody else. Maybe he wants to make a hard record and use that to elevate his status in the game like a Pusha T type record. Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar etc… they gained their popularity with songs that were not formulaic so its possible to Cyhi to do that same. 2nd when you say rap superstar? There are perspectives to that as well. Jay Electronica has no album and no singles but I bet he could sell out a show in all the major cities. Curren$y has no big radio songs but he can do the same and its a bunch of artists that do not follow the same cliche formula but still make money like they signed to a major and still have “superstar” shows lined up without making the cliche simpleton radio songs. You keep talking about great song writing? Its no way people would consider Cyhi dope if he didn’t have that ability. He’s putting himself in to position to do such but when it comes to his pen? I wouldn’t be so quick to assume he can’t write a great song, especially with songs like he already has. Maybe he wants to make another So Appalled as a radio song instead of some corny predictable cliche type of formulaic radio bullshit song. You keep saying what he can’t do with his pen? I’d say judging by what he’s done this far? I wouldn’t count out his pen game on any level.

  4. SapToad says:

He can rap but he doesn’t have the IT factor

He needs an A&R and a stylist bad
