After nearly a decade with Def Jam, there have been a few speculations of Rozay leaving the label soon. Although he is still signed, it was announced today that he inked a deal with Epic Records.
I wonder why he just didn’t go independent?

But that’s the thing, Ross hasn’t been selling much anyway. So why not go independent & get most back whatever he sells?
Because then he’d have to pay for the production, features, marketing, publishing and a bunch of other expenses the label pays for. And he’d be lucky to turn a profit. At least as big of one that he gets from just staying on a major label. That’s why Mac Miller and OF, 2 of the most successful independent artists wether you like them or not, went to a big label after doing the independent grind for a bit.
