As far as capitalizing off a movement? I believe you may have that in some circumstances but then you also may have artists that rap about certain things because thats what they really think. I can’t say whether Kendrick is rapping a certain way just to capitalize on a movement or if he’s rapping that way because he really thinks like that and believes in what he’s saying. I would say though, that Kendrick has multiple projects out that he released over the last 6 or 7 years and they all carry a similar perspective and level of consciousness so I’d say he likely really feels like what he’s writing in songs.
He makes questionable moves, look at blacker the berry, all the shit he says and like you said believes in, but does tracks with lady gaga, gets his first number 1 on taylor swifts back. Those moves are contrary to what he spitting. Theres to many examples of him being contradictory, like you on this convo between us.
