Budden has always been dope to me but he missed his window. If he would have come out in the 90s he would have been heavily praised for his ability. But he didnt get popular until the dawn of the Swag era. He made a little noise in 02′ but dropped a mediocre album and fell off. His Mood Muzik series is probably the single greatest collection of mixtapes ever made but only real heads are hip to it. I personally think that Budden is a rap bully compared to Drake but he suffers from the same setback that hampered Canibus when Cool J was beefing with him, and that is his lack of mainstream popularity. I cant really get into the modern hip-hop genre… it sounds like dribble to me.

Most of the songs you mentioned were mixtape songs so it’s hard to tell if he had help with those bars or not but songs like The Ride and Tuscan Leather we can see the credits. The Weeknd is a writer on The Ride and we know that’s one of the 6 songs the Weeknd said he gave Drake for Take Care. You know who else is a writer on The Ride, Anthony Palman who is also a writer on Tuscan leather and a bunch of other Drake songs you think he is spittin fire.

Joe is the better rapper but in a battle, one can use on ability that he’s good at and defeat another MC thats good in multiple areas of lyricism. I feel like since Drake can out he’s been good at punchlines. Memorable and quotable punches that become sing alongs after people hear it. I feel like that particular ability will give him a win vs Joe.
If you look at the credits for all those songs there are multiple writers cited so it doesn’t make a good case for your argument. As for the level of personal insight in the lyrics, look at any pop singer like Rihanna. She doesn’t write any of her songs and yet gets good reviews for having deeply personal and moving songs, thus proving you don’t have to write the lyrics for them to sound meaningful. And as for Drake’s verse on the Forever remix, not only did he not write it himself, but the lyrics were straight up stolen from the song “Lacefront Shawty” by Nod Ross… look into it and you will see there is very little evidence that Drake wrote anything himself, especially his more famous work.
My argument is not based on him writing it or not. I have never seen Drake write a song, I don’t know what he writes and doesn’t write. As far as him having ghostwriters? WE KNOW ALREADY. I don’t know why people keep repeating it over and over when we already know that. When you see credits fro song writing? Am I the only one who is gonna say that Joe is losing, dispite his better rhyming ability? I Look at it like this: Joe has always been a great underground rapper, but never made it big, like so many great rappers who just realy don’t care about that, they just care if their music gets appreciated but the ones they had in mind making the music for. But not Joe, Joe thinks everyone should like his music, even if they just 16 years old and never grew up on Joe, and just don’t care about him, how great a rappers he might be. Fam, there were websites with lyrics before genius. They didn’t annotate it but you could read the lyrics.
Now even before the websites with lyrics you used to get the lyrics in many album booklets and shit too.
Separate and apart from that we used to read interviews or articles in magazines, and you would get the back stories. Later down the line it was the underground DVD’s and shit.
So when I say look up the lyrics and meanings, I mean digging through whatever outlet there was for Hip Hop and catching jewels and gems.

If you would’ve paid more attention you would also know that Rap Genius was birthed from the concept of somebody having to explain Hip Hop lyrics to his friend, literally that was the relationship between the founders and they realized that alot of ppl a probably having this experience and need somewhere they can go to find out what these lyrics mean.
