Loon Released From Prison
Loon is back.
Loon has just been released from prison after serving more than eight years for his conspiracy role in drug trafficking.
On Wednesday (July 29), the former rapper and Bad Boy artist was granted a compassionate release due to health concerns and was released shortly after.
The New York Post reports U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle converted his sentence as time served, agreeing the Coronavirus pandemic was an “extraordinary and compelling” reason and that he was not a danger to society. This comes after a long celebrity campaign urging for an early release due to his ongoing bout with laryngopharyngitis, acute bronchitis and bronchopneumonia.
On Friday (July 31), he posted his first post-prison photo in front of a Rolls Royce with Akon’s music executive brother Bu Thaim and two friends.
Loon, 45, was apprehended in Belgium back in 2011 for conspiracy with intent to traffic one or more kilos of heroin and was sentenced to 14 years in 2013. He was initially scheduled to be released in August 2021.
Born Chauncey Lamont Hawkins, Loon changed his name to Amir Junaid Muhadith in 2008 after converting to Islam. As Loon, he was a former member of Ma$e’s group Harlem World and is best known for his appearances on P. Diddy’s 2002 hits “I Need A Girl“, “I Need A Girl Part 2”, and his self-titled debut LP, Loon soon after in 2003. Welcome home.
