2020 MTV VMAs Performances

Pull up.

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards held their annual ceremony on Sunday evening (August 30) honoring this year’s musical artist and their videos. Hosted by Keke Palmer, the event was held virtually at various locations in New York City due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Opening up the show in his signature red blazer and wounds, The Weeknd took to the Edge At Hudson Yards and performed “Blinding Lights”, before lighting up the city skyline with fireworks. XO was nominated for six awards, and his “Blinding Lights” took home Moon trophies in both the Best R&B and Video Of The Year categories.

Elsewhere, DaBaby, who was nominated for three awards, pulled up to a stage filled with special effects and an apocalyptic backdrop for his powerful medley. Accompanied by dance crew the Jabbawockees, DaBaby ran through “Peep Hole” and “Blind” while handcuffed to a police car, then breaking free with “Rockstar” in a burning city.

Reporting live from Planet Her, this year’s Best New Artist Doja Cat, introduced herself as a MTV News host for her out-of-this-world performance. Donning a futuristic catsuit, Doja electrified the show with “Say So” followed by “Like That“, and an epic dance finale.

Jack Harlow emerged on to the court of an area with a Utah Jazz jersey baring “Say Her Name” in tribute for the innocent Black lives lost, and performed his hit single, “What’s Poppin”.

Elsewhere, Chloe X Halley touched down in their metallic suits and microphones to recite their “UnGodly Hour” inside a black room with laser lights beaming overhead.

Meanwhile on a rooftop and inside a warehouse full of neon-lights, Machine Gun Kelley rocked his set alongside Travis Barker and blackbear with a lively rendition of “My Ex’s Best Friend” as well as “Bloody Valentine“, which earned him a victory in the Best Alternative category.

Other wins throughout the evening included Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” taking the crown for Best Hip-Hop and H.E.R.’s powerful visual for “I Can’t Breathe” winning the Video For Good award. The full list of the night’s big wins can be viewed here. Congrats!
