Pusha T: My Name Is My Name

It’s what you all been waiting for it, ain’t it? It was a long road to an album release date since the celebrated Clipse MC signed to G.O.O.D. Music three years ago, but finally Pusha T delivers. Inspired by 90s hip-hop, this album plays like one side of a TDK 90 mins cassette tape. You can almost hear the hisses, my nigga.

Hustle Gang: G.D.O.D.

T.I. is a free agent and until these labels get their paper up to his standards, he’s gonna offset the “Blurred Lines” appearances by feeding the underground. And you know The Kang doesn’t roll alone. He’s got a crew behind him. Released this past May, the Get Dough Or Die mixtape showcases a wide array of talent all in business with Mr. Harris.

Big K.R.I.T.: King Remembered In Time

Yeah we had issues with his major label debut, 2012’s Live From The Underground, but when Big K.R.I.T. returns to his mixtape roots, he’s unfuckwitable. Released in April, King Remembered In Time is the Mississippi Man’s tenth mixtape and he sounds as sharp and poignant as ever.

El-P & Killer Mike: Run The Jewels

The white kid from Company Flow and the ATLien offspring of OutKast form a rap group? Yeah I’m with it, I’m with it. It all began a year ago when El-P handled production for Killer Mike’s R.A.P. Music. Their chemistry was evident and thankfully this past summer they officially formed a dynamic duo named Run The Jewels and released a self-titled free mixtape.

Chance The Rapper: Acid Rap

This one is quite a polarizing release for the Rap Radar staff. Well fellas whether you like it or not, Acid Rap is the most-acclaimed mixtape of the year. It’s made the Chicago MC, a magazine cover star and the hottest free agent in this business of rap. That’s all pretty good for a kid on his second mixtape.

Meek Mill: Dreamchasers 3

Like they always do at this time: Meek Mill and fellow Philadelphian DJ Drama join forces to bring you the latest edition to their classic mixtape series. From the jump you know it’s gonna be a grand affair. Y’all know Meek loves an intro and this one includes a surprise guest verse from Travi$ Scott and appearances from two of hip-hop’s most notorious shit talkers Birdman and Diddy. Fuck they little T-Ts too, Puff? Damn!

J.Cole “Crooked Smile”

Forget having a visual that matches the exact sentiment of the song, J.Cole wanted to strike nerves and make a statement. After being moved by a viewing of Fruitvale Station, Cole decided to address the 2010 death of Aiyana Stanley-Jones, a 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed in a police raid of her home.

Eminem “Berzerk”

Just when you thought everything on the radio sounded the same, here comes Marshall Mathers to turn your dial upside down. With Rick Rubin behind the boards, Em gets to live out his Beastie Boys fantasy and bring back a taste of golden age rap to today’s young bucks.

Kanye West: Yeezus

Many hated this album when it dropped but plenty of us have come back around. No Yeezus is not the 5-star masterpiece than we’re accustomed to from Mr. West. He went left with this dark, jarring ride. I mean if you’re still looking for reflections of then-impending fatherhood and clear insight into his relationship with Kim K, go that way.

Wale: The Gifted

If you don’t like Wale for his ambition, then maybe this album isn’t for you. Ha! Armed with a gold second album, Wale shoots for the top on his third LP. You see satisfaction is for suckers and Mr. Folarin wants to be recognized one day with the great ones. Newfound fame hasn’t derailed him on his mission.
