It’s HB-hOv. And tonight, Jay-Z was back on Real Time With Bill Maher. He spoke on art, Magna Carta Holy Grail, possible induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and of course, politics as usual.
If you draw, better be Picasso. After Jay-Z’s appearance on Real Time, came the premiere of his video, “Picasso Baby”. The clip was directed by Mark Romanek at the Pace art gallery in NYC. Cameos include, well, damn near everyone. Download Magna Carta Holy Grail here.
While in Los Angeles, Hov called Power 106’s morning drive. He talked about touring with JT, inspiration, hyphen Craigslist ad, and tonight’s “Picasso Baby” video premiere. In other news, “Holy Grail” has gone gold.
Black? Disenfranchised? Kids crying? Blame Jay-Z! In the wake of the on going controversy surrounding Jay-Z and Harry Belafonte, yours truly called Qdeezy’s show on Hot 107.9 in Philly. I also spoke to the good folks at VIBE about the hoopla.
Harry Belafonte appeared on MSNBC yesterday to discuss the Dream Defenders initiative and Stand Your Ground law in Florida. Afterward, the conversation shifted to Jay-Z’s criticism of him in his interview with YN. Last year, Belafonte told The Hollywood Reporter that Hov and Beyoncé “turned their back on social responsibility”. He later said he was willing to meet with the couple to iron out their differences.
Hov’s Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film, which was shot at NY’s Pace Gallery earlier this month, will debut on HBO on August 2 at 11 pm EST. He will also appear on Real Time with Bill Maher following the premiere. Y’all basic subscribers might want to upgrade. Young H-O on HBO.
Its the battle of the laughs. Before Hov took the field at Yankee Stadium last weekend, YN caught up with him for a special sit-down of The Truth. The fight for justice continues on as Jay-Z and Beyoncé appeared at a Trayvon Martin rally in New York City. The couple met with Trayvon’s mother and Rev. Al Sharpton. Later this evening, Hov will have his second concert at Yankee Stadium.
Hov returned to Yankee Stadium last night as part of his Legends of the Summer tour with JT. During his set, he brought out Alicia Keys for “Empire State of Mind”. Second show takes place tonight.

SNL comedian Jay Pharaoh did his well-known Jay-Z impersonation pitching Roc Nation Sports on last night’s ESPYS. We’re sure Samsung appreciated the plug. Yea Puff, we didn’t think it was funny either.

Last night, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake returned to Olympic Park for their second night to close out the Wireless Festival and kick off their Legends Of The Summer tour. Days before Jay-Z’s Magna Carta dropped, New York City based street artists URNY remixed one of his lyric books. They turned pages of the book into a scavenger hunt in through out the city. Their project even caught Hov’s attention and in turn, invited the duo to his release party last week. Above is a recap of their adventure.
