The problem with Battle rappers is that they are so used to practicing the same rhymes 3 months in advance for a battle, so by the time they have to perform the bars publicly the mind is one with the bars and the bars are one with the mind, this is what makes battle rappers so captivating on stage vs studio rappers. This strength then becomes a weakness when you put a battle rapper in a studio environment, when ever you hear a battle rapper's bars on a beat there is always something missing, that special element that transcend a simple combination of beats and rhymes to music.
An argument could be made that Eminem, Canibus and Cassidy make good records but they came from battle rap, but the issue here is which era of battle rap? All those guys came from the freestyle era, which was mainly saying random things about somebody that rhyme. The Smack era came in and drastically advanced battle rap, so much so that the mind is handicapped from adjusting from the different thought processes.
