That beat was basically already done on that Lupe Fiasco song “failure”. Someone tell me I’m wrong?
Yeah that sample was used on Lupe Fiasco’s song “Failure” and I like that version better than what J. Cole rhymed over it. The beat he produced was okay but it definitely wouldn’t have fit with American Gangster in comparison to the songs that are on it. That’s some story though about him waiting for Jay outside of Roc The Mic Studios to give him a beat CD (sounds like Papoose and DJ Kay Slay).
