Beanie Sigel: BP3 > American Gangster

In an interview with Jenny Boom Boom, Mack Mittens admits that he likes The Blueprint 3 over Hov’s previous work. Afterwards, he says it’s still Roc for life and gets a lil’ aggy once Dame Dash is mentioned. Early!

I agree. I think it’s Jay’s best record since The Black Album. Both Kingdom Come and American Gangster lacked the celebratory vibe of his previous work, which is what people came to expect from a Jay-Z album. Kingdom Come was too preachy and serious while American Gangster sounded a tad bit forced as a concept album. The whole linear narrative angle was a hindrance in my opinion.

The Blueprint 3 sounds fresh. Even though he mentions several times on the album that he’s not taking it back that’s exactly what he did. Songs like “Empire State of Mind”, “What We Talkin’ Bout” & “Real As It Gets” are vintage Hov with updated production. While there are some missteps on the album it’s still very good.

Why hasn’t anyone mentioned that Kanye West co-executive produced this album? I think that’s why we got the simple type Jay-Z and not the more introspective, complicated rhymer we got for the past few years.
