After a premature leak of the info, Drizzy has now come clean to the fine folks at Billboard about the first single from Thank Me Later. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s called “Shut It Down.”

Drake describes the track as “an R&B song…It’s sexy. It’s slow, but there’s an energy to it. I rap on it. Me and Dream both sing on it. It’s cool.” It also has a “message that’s never really been explored by male singers,” he says. “This song is sort of like an anthem for women, like pre-the club. It’s like an anthem for you to be at your house with your girlfriends getting ready, what you listen to before you get there. It’s a song for the non-famous woman to make her feel special and just to let you know that even though I’m up here and have the option to mingle wtih these ‘upper-echelon’ women, if you will, that sometimes I’d rather be with the girl from back home or a student or a girl that works at Wal-Mart. They don’t have to be a star or rich or anything like that; that’s kind of the gist of the song. It’s an empowering song for all women.”

I’m afraid of the video. Ha!

YN i dk if you’ll even see this but i gotta comment about the asher roth piece on the left of the site. I just can’t stand how people are immediately making this an issue of race. Nowhere in asher’s comments does he say anything that would even remotely come close to a racist comment. Just because he has opinions about our black president it is automatically racially motivated? you say he should watch what he says because hip hop was built by african americans and latinos. if he made these comments about george bush nobody would have even noticed. leave the kid alone. hip hop is keeping racism alive by taking these little things to heart. just my opinion and wanted to voice it. i don’t agree with the comments but i definitly dont think it was more than simply his opinion that obama hasnt done enough to deserve the award. anyways i love the site and am an everyday viewer
