I have no problem with Wayne, but he is what he is. He makes popular music. Not necessarily hip hop music. He really can’t tell a story through a verse. But he can knows how to write hooks and he knows how to make an album that will sell. He’s a smart dude. But to compare him to a lyricist isn’t right. Is he at the top of the pop artist that call themselves rappers? Yes. But you can’t say he’s the top rapper in the game cuz there are numerous people that are better then him lyrically. And if album sells make that determination then Puff was #1 in ’97.

Lupe is more of everything that’s good about this music than Wayne and a lot of other rappers out there doin’ it these days . He is less of what is wrong with the game . I won’t itemize a list of the good and the bad , cause if yall commenentin’ on this post yall already know, bur IMO that’s how they stack up .
Although I don’t have a problem with either , people like 50 and Wayne actually think that it’s something they’re doing right that makes them so popular . Then their fans throw that up as if it validates mediocre music . They both benefitted from their image . Fif brought the thugged out goon image back just at the right time (cause that’s where the culture was goin OUTSIDE of the stu) , and wayne brought the zoned out high all the time, “who cares?” attitude back at the right time (cause that’s where these kids are at now) . They wonder why they fall of so suddenly, like they did something wrong . The fact is they never did anything that right , they didn’t necessarily deserve those big audiences, it was just a phase . Fif is almost all the way back down to earth from the stratosphere, and Wayne will be in about 2 years or so . No hate involved but images are fads, they come and go in and out of style . When that is the MAJOR reason you are on top, you won’t be very long .
Artists like Lupe will always be around cause the people that follow him are doing it because of his MUSIC . That is something he can always duplicate cause that’s from the soul .

Lupe is a beast! I don’t know if he’s in the mainstream completely as a lot of people don’t listen to the guy because he’s not “in” and Lil Wayne, Gucci etc are. But he is known, quite well known because EVERYONE has heard “Superstar” or “Kick Push” and wasn’t nominated for Grammys last year?
But Lupe is defintily one of the most talented mc’s out right now. When it comes to known rappers that actually RAP and don’t do poppy shit 24/7. Theres him and Eminem. Thats about it. I mean people considered Relapse a flop but BP3 a great album, wtf BP3 sounded like a collection of collabs with great beats plus it got old after a week of listening. The Relapse took ALOT of getting used to but you dudes gotta admt. Em got some balls. He tried something completely different for the most part it backlashed but in a few years it’ll be considered a classic. Lupe too. When enough time has passed and Lupe drops more albums he’ll be a legend to.
