RR’s ’09 Best R&B Albums: #2 Alicia Keys “The Element Of Freedom”

You gotta hand it to Alicia. Unlike pretty much every other artist on the planet, she doesn’t oversaturate herself to stay hot. She does it the old school way. Takes a significant hiatus in between albums and comes back with nothing but her finest material. The single choices have been rock-solid so far. “Doesn’t Mean Anything” is dandy. “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” is thrilling. And while I appreciate her trying to make a Beyonce collabo work (“Put It In A Love Song”), I rather she go with the Drake-assisted “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)” as her third look. Either way, I’ll keep bumpin’ the CD from the apparently Swizz Beatz-inspired “Love Is Blind” to her ballsy spin of Hov’s “Empire State” which she makes her own. When it comes to her music, Ms. Keys was and still is a problem. I’m afraid of what Alicia’s gonna do next.
Dont tell me ……number #1 is Jamie Foxx?…huh
Love this album it’s my number one.
Number 1’s gotta be The Dream “Love Vs. Money”
