Interesting, but it gets a little irritating how towards the end, the “future of sample-based music” is mainly represented by a bunch of relatively irrelevant white guys who does mainly (from what I could tell from watching this) poorer versions of what the bomb squad n them did 20 yrs ago. Sampling in rap in 2010 is far beyond a James Brown “uh”… Take what the Block Beattaz/slow Motion Soundz are doing f.e.
And also, Puffy and Mase sorta flashes by on screen but aren’t even aknowledged in the narrative, as I recall it Bad Boys whole “taking hits from the 80ies make em sound so crazy”-approach to the sampling game was not only something brand new but also caused quite an in-scene conflict whitin the rap-community. You kinda get the feeling the makers of this movie went “Lets not even menton Puffy because you know..that shit wasnt REAL hiphop-sampling” 🙂

But even still, a good watch, and lol @ that guy comparing sampling to embarrasing dance moves. Hope he felt embarrased watching how rockist and really kinda racist he looks here.

Tight… I was looking all over, online, to find a place to watch this… Thanks for being a fellow copyright criminal and posting it.

“Tell the truth James Brown was old, till Eric & Rakim came out with I Got Soul. Rap brings back old R&B and if we would not, people could have forgot… We wanna make this pefectly clear, we’re talented, strong, and have no fear, of those that choose to judge but lack pazzaz… Talkin all that jazz” – Stetsasonic

Sums it all up for me… Sampling now a days is like graffiti. You’ve got to be strategic about how you do it and where. Yeah, it’s illegal… If you’re not making a million dollars off it, then sample all you want!!!
