2009 sure was eventful for Charles Hamilton. In this week’s installment of The Real, Chuck recalls his past troubles and rationalizes why he should be featured on this year’s XXL Freshmen 10 cover or The Source‘s Unsigned Hype column. Sorry, but opportunity comes once in a lifetime.
Plus, you know, he’s not that good of a rapper. So there’s that.
Is he nuts? He had most of the spotlight in the interview out of the 10 Freshmen last go-round.

The dude’s mixtape was a classic, I can’t front on his skills behind the mic and production. He just ruined it by getting the big head and not being humble. He really could’ve been more that what cudi became, seriously because Charles’ buzz was crazy. Dude’s video with Lacey Duvall was dope. The song “Brooklyn Girls” was like a regional version of Best I Ever Had. The song was dope. Then Charles ego murked his shine. I still bump the lavalamp joint. Oh well

Dot how can you consider anything a classic without some years behind it?Perfect personal example I have is Illmatic came out when I was still in elementary and I can still today bump every cut off of it and it makes me want to go smoke weed n hang out in project hallways. Now Nas “N” album I can’t even recall the 1st single right now but when I first heard the album I thought it was the hottest shit out. Not saying it still ain’t a hot album cuz it is but after awhile you know it ain’t a classic that was just a hot joint for that time period.

Not even gonna lie, last year Charles Hamilton was my favorite frm the XXL freshmen class of 09. The Pink Lavalamp was IMO a GOOD mixtape. I’ll admit, i want on his blog on a daily basis, mostly to see if he would link anymore music. IMO he is a VERY goid producer. I’m surprised more mainstream arent fucking with him beat wise. Hate him or love him da dude can rap his ass off! However that dude FUCKED it up BAAAAD. Frm him getting accused of stealing beats, to Rhymefest, Soulja Boy (of all people) dissing him. His lady punching him, and the cream of the crop, the J. Dilla bullshit. And what fucked up his buzz even more is that after he was hyping his “Free” album for so long on his blog, dude just vanished without NO explainnation. Like he aliennated any fans he had left. Da only reason y i still fuck with him is because of his music. Hopefully he got his act together…
Least he’s a good sport with a good sense of humour. I thought his album was alright beatwise. At the very least I think he can craft a career selling those.
I admit Charles had a couple of good songs like “Brooklyn Girls” but after that J. Dilla shit, I lost interest.

And for the record, I agree with the sentiment about classics, especially the “personal favorite” comment. In my opinion, a classic is something that is generally viewed favorably by many different groups of people. You can’t just call anything a classic.

Charles’ buzz was sooooo manufactured by Interscope that it wasn’t even funny. It was all hype. And yea, everybody understands that this is a joke, but it’s both sad and annoying to see Charles play himself over and over.
