We told you that the next VH1 Hip-Hop Honors would be dedicated solely to the South. Well here’s the King in NYC being interviewed for the show. According to the homie Maurice Garland, the honorees include JD, J Prince, Luke and the 2 Live Crew, Master P and the fellas below, Organized Noize. Nice!

Well it’s about damn time!!
Master P hate all you want to, but from a business stand point what he did with an indie lable on a mainstream level will never be done again. No Limit was literally putting out albums every week. After I’m Bout came out every rapper & they mommy was saying they had an album & movie coming out. Most of which never came out. Master P was the first to put the south on the map as far as a mainstream level, I mean you had OutKast, but they was still wasn’t as known nation wife yet. Shit, for awhile MTV was in love with P. Alot of rappers can say they put they hood on the map, very few can say they put an entire region on the map. Did he come up short when it came to lyrics? What didn’t kill us (The South) made us stronger. They didn’t give up major deals, no airplay, none of that…..no million dollar budgets….nope. No major lable catered to NO southern acts….but when the Music industry reshaped and reformed itself…who suffered? The artists that were “Spoiled” by the Million dollar budgets, the Major Label Support, all of the Air Play and backing from every network. NOW look at them….looking for features and ready to hang “Will rap for food” signs around their necks.
I also love how they are saying that Southern Rap is Killing “Hip Hop”…when Master P, or any of those artists…Even OUTKAST came out..they weren’t calling that shit Hip Hop….NOW it’s Hip Hop? Whatever…We been here…and we will continue to be here….Credit or Not. Deal With it!!
Nice you put T.I. on the black out, but still use him to promote your site. You might as well put yourself on the ‘You Played Yourself” spot, homie. Good to see TIP doin’ his thing, though.

The south gets an award show only because they are whats hot now. Pay homage to those who opened the door for them “first”. The world now-a-days doesn’t pay attention to those who came before, only those who are current I guess. Almost a slap in the face if you ask me. I understand that NY is the Mecca of this shit, but DAMN can we get some luv 4 the talent that we do have down here?Yeah some of r shit is wack, but it’s like that across the board. I don’t understand how guys want to generalize the music and say what IS and what is NOT Hip Hop. If it’s good or not IS an opinion….it’s no such thing as Southern Rap not being Hip Hop. I mean be serious. I really look at a great deal of groups that are Hip Hop or some form of Hip Hop in my opinion….like the Black Eyed Peas….they are HIP HOP…..in my opinion groups like Linkin Park are even hip hop. Half of the cats who have the most strict opinion on it know NOTHING about the history of Hip Hop period.
@ Da Business, chill, homie. It’s not ‘hate’. (As I actually LOVE some of the groups you mentioned). It’s simply MY opinion.
But let’s be honest. Hip hop died a long time ago. Just because someone is ‘rapping’, doesn’t make it ‘HIP HOP’. You can’t just throw EVERYTHING under the ‘hip hop’ umbrella and expect everyone to except it as such. Some things just AREN’T – or rather SHOULDN’T be labeled ‘hip hop’ (i.e. Hyphy). If it’s something else and it’s hot, then fine. Why can’t it just be that something ‘else’? Why must EVERY urban creation be labeled ‘hip hop’?
Just sayin’.
BTW, the West Coast ‘killed’ hip-hop. Think on that and get back to me…

Ok bruh I hear ya, but I still have to respectfully disagree. U c hip hop is all relative, I could understand y u feel the way u feel about certain “hip hop”. It’s like what JUGGANOTT said, tho ppl feel a certain way about the BEP they’re a hip hop group. Yeah, u and I probably won’t rock w/ them but it’s still hip hop. Now if they were faking the funk as of tryin’ to sale themselves off as a gangta rap group then we can give them da business. Look @ Lauren Hill’s lp or The Love Below as an ex., tho there wasn’t mush rappin’ on ’em they’re still hip hop lps.
As far as the hyphy/jerk movement goes, it’s hip hop. Dance is 1 of hip hop’s 5 elements, which is what their doin’. I’m not tryin’ to change ur outlook on what is or not hip hop, I’m just givin’ u a different prospective, again it’s all relative.
Now as far as the west is concern, I know it’s ur opinion and u r entitled to that, but u don’t really feel that way do u? My combat for that statement is simply DR. DRE!!!
