Scarface Upset With Hip Hop Honors
Uncle Luke and Tony Draper aren’t the only ones with issues with VH1. Scarface says that he will be absent from this year’s ceremony. Face Mob has attended the event for the past two years.
UPDATE: Face explains himself to Ozone.
I don’t wanna be classified as just “Dirty South.” I’m Hip Hop, man. I’m not going because I feel slighted. Even though it was a nice gesture, I feel like it’s just a pacifier. They’re like, “Let’s give these niggas down there a pacifier so they can stop feeling left out. We’ll make Luke and all these niggas down there look funny,” you know? “Let’s put a plate of fried chicken and some watermelon and let’s just do some nigga-ass shit.” (laughs) Quote, end quote. “Some nigga-ass shit.” Fried chicken and watermelon. “Shit, the faster we get this over with, the better.”
if i was face i’d be mad too, they put dirty south on there as if the south aint hip hop, like they making it a seperate entity away from hiphop thas f’d up, just call it the hip hop honors and leave it at that
^^^^^^
That’s exactly what I was sayin’. Why change a formula that was PERFECTLY fine?!?! Why can’t someone like J.Prince and Luke be honored on the same night as say a Diddy?
It’s like how we have only 1 month to celebrate black history, when in fact black history month is AMERICAN HISTORY.
Like Face said, “I don’t wanna be classified as just “Dirty South.” I’m Hip Hop, man.” That’s some REAL shit right there, hip hop is not JUST an east coast thing…SMDH @ VH1.
MEMO TO VH1!!!! SHUT THAT SHIT DOWN!!!!!!
DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

I love Scarface & I’m glad he spoke his mind. Dude is a legend.
damn Clowns….
who coined the phrase Dirty South?
Who was claiming dirty south during their interviews?
Who claimed dirty south rap is better than east/west coast rap?
Who doesn’t play other area’s music, and only dirty south rap?
I fucks with face mob, but I hate the hypocrisy from southern artist. Fuck VH1, but they did not make up that phrase, nor did they encourage a Hip Hop atmosphere that’s fragmented and only use the moniker of Hip Hop to describe all region of music when it’s convenient, like now against VH1.
i defintely feel him. he made a HUGE impact before hiphop got so big we had to classify it by region.
vh1’s heart is in the right place; but they need to be careful. you can’t tackle 25+ years of significant southern rap with pie charts and song snippets.
i think cool breeze from the dungeon family coined the phrase ‘dirty south’ circa 1995
@ Isiah Bradley is my new best friend…lol
co-sign man…..
The people that did make the list should be happy. An entire region is being honored.
Why are the wack assholes on that list complaining? Other then Scarface and Jermaine Dupri, none of those other motherfuckers are worthy of any honor. There are countless other people I would put in front of them. Those other people wouldn’t get a VH1 honor until 2018 with the list I would have.
If this was a normal VH1 honors program, Master P wouldnt even be considered. Only in later years when they have run out of names..lol
Man, they (VH1) might as well just cance this shit! All the great artists are pissed and non-cooperative with ’em…Told u, them New York VH1 niggaz are fuckin’ up…Let’s see how this goes over. Lol!
*cancel
Yeah Brad Jordan is being bi-polar now lol
But on the real when you have Outkast and Scarface backing out, it destroys the crediblity of honoring the whole region especially since they argubaly had the most impact.
I hate this cop out of flipping the concept of the show from honoring individuals and groups to now honoring regions and labels, just because it would get more ratings….it doesnt work.
Nas, Dr. Dre, Gangstarr, EPMD, Redman, Jay-Z, Bone Thugs N Harmony all still have not been honored. I feel like this show has become unoffically the televised version of the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame and I want to see those guys get honored still.
@ Isiah Bradley
I feel where you’re comin’ from, but u’ve got to c it from the south’s prospective. Up until the late ’90’s we(the south) didn’t get any love from the east or the west for that matter. So we had to grind it out and show and prove that the south also has talent to offer to the masses.
Like Adrian mention^^^
Cool Breeze coined the phrase “Dirty South”, it was r way of sayin’ “I’m from the south and proud”, that’s all it was. We wanted r respect, it’s no different from n!99@$ reppin’ their hoods. Everyone is goin’ to say that their hood is better than yours.
HIP HOP is all about reppin’ where ur from and giving the masses a different prospective on urban life.
Bottom line is I understand that VH1 was trying to give props, but they went @ it wrong. Its ALL hip hop whether it’s east, west, south, or mid west. U can’t put ppl in a box and not expect folks to feel salty.
I’m just sayin’
smh @ fuckyall
I ain’t mad @ ya brah, this site needs ppl like u. So go ahead and keep doin’ u.
Here’s the problem…
Scarface is a lame and has fell off…to the degree where he is dropping his albums himself…lol This motherfucker had no problem being president of “DEF JAM SOUTH” but throws a tantrum when his region gets honored…wtf?
nobody argue wih ‘fuckyall’. only time will make that person understand.
truth be told; i’ve been watching these documentaries that suggest alot of twitter users are not real people and how some people get paid to incite wordwars on message boards.
#word2thewise
Cool Breeze coined the phrase Dirty South…and it originally referred to the Southside of Atlanta, hense them namedropping certain streets and neighborhoods in the song. At the time the Southside had a lot going on as far as dope, crime, crooked cops, shady politicians, jumpout boys and stuff like that. Thats why the Red Dog skit appears before it on the Soul Food album. Red Dog was a drug task force, it stood for Run Every Drug Dealer Out of Georgia. As the song grew in popularity, cats from the South period found that they could relate to the song and it just got adopted into referring to the region as a whole.
Understand what? That scarface is a hypocrite or I lose some type of Hip Hop pass because I don’t jump on Scarface’ nuts like everybody else?
Homie, I’m 37 years old. I witnessed people like Grand Wizard Theodore DJ in the early 80’s when you were semen in your dads nut sack. When I speak Hip Hop, I lived it and breathed it. I’m not some asshole who just started listening to this shit in 2002.
see he has a reason to get mad becuz he should be honored himself his honor shouldnt be a inclusion of the whole south becuz Face got fans overseas and all that shit he should get honored by himself not as a member of the south
I feel where you’re comin’ from, but u’ve got to c it from the south’s prospective. Up until the late ’90′s we(the south) didn’t get any love from the east or the west for that matter

Now are you talking about from fellow peers or fans ? Southern/ Western and Eastern artists been collaborating. “Two to the Head” off G. Raps opus was one of the earliest sessions. Shit, LL’s 2nd opus was done by the West Coast !! Even if you wanted to hate a fan of Hip Hop had no choice but to respect The Geto Boys,
Poison Clan, 2 Live Crew and Luke for what
they did, 8 Ball & MJG and so on… I see once The South got their Media respect and came into their own on that level, getting spins, regular interviews and all no one was telling the southern states anyting.
Here is the real. I can’t and don’t respect “dirty South” rappers. Half of the time, you can hardly understand wtf they are saying. They are NOT “HIP HOP”. They are “RAP”. There is a huge diference. I grew up when cold crush, video music box, and the golden error of the 90’s.
HIP HOP is a culture, not coonery. How can you call wakafloca, hiphop
@FUCK YALL, YOU ARE A DYING BREED AND I AM THANKFUL. I AM SICK OF OLD HEADS HATIN ON THE NEW DEAL…I GUARANTEE YOU WHEN GRAND WIZARD WHO EVER-THE-FUCK WAS SCRATCHING RECORDS, SOME OLD HEAD LAME LIKE YOUR SELF WAS LIKE ” THAT AINT MUSIC! I SAW JAMES BROWN AT THE APOLLO WHEN U WERE SEMEN IN YA DADDYS NUTSACK!” point is people, that you will get old the stuff u like will get old…and the youth will not even give half of a fuck. 20 yrs from now someone will argue that souljaboy is real music and who ever is ne on the scene is not..its a fucking cycle just like life idiot! pac and big are the shit and were the shit..and they will be scene as the shit 20 yrs from now…but in the same light as m jackson..or elvis, or lennon, or pendergrass, or luther v….everyone respects these guys but aint nobody whining bout ” BRING REAL ROCK/R&B/POP BACK.” THE GENRE STILL FUCKING EXIST. iF U DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT IM SAYING..THEN KILL YA SELF, RECORD IT, AND SEND IT TO YOUR DAUGHTER.
SOUTH WINS AGAIN.
VH1? Ha! I’m surprised black people still watch that channel. To each is own……
the first comment to this is the only 1 you need to read. Scarface is right. People need to realize the importance of EVERY single word we use. Don’t be classified. Don’t be put in a box. Fuck that shit.
