I wish this joint was tighter but I’m happy Bazerk and the bunch are finally back. It’s been a long time. Only 19 years. Ha. Reminisce on the other side.
If there were only 100 HipHop/R&B songs out right now… this would be in the top 5 best of that 100… Not to clown it, b/c the song is cool… but it just goes to show everybody how terrible urban music is right now
ironic says:
Not the most technical rhyme schemes or current flows, but lots of energy and i’m feeling it A LOT…Good job Johnny Juice…
@ silkcity you;re right, speaks volumes about the state of music right now…
wow!! i got the first and only album son of bazerk made back in ’91. that shit was/is a personal classic. when the bomb squad production team was puttin’ in work. very left field music even for back then. glad to see them back even if it’s just for one single.
Thanks for the comments. Son of Bazerk will be releasing a full album (which is finished by the way) sometime in the next month or so.
Not all of the songs sound like this but there will definitely be some diversity.
As far as the lyrics and flows…what can I say? That’s just the Son of Bazerk sound!
PEace.
BIG BEN says:
Johnny Juice, good too see you making moves, huge PE fan, thanks for all the great cuts
chillo says:
Maybe because we see so many random mash-ups the idea wore off. The transitions don’t seem as fluid as on the original material. Still a welcome return.
You are exactly right with the transitions. For the most parts, many of the segments have different tempos (on purpose) as opposed to Change The Style, where the tempo never deviated. I did it on purpose.
Why? Because in this age of Ableton, Serato, and Traktor where anyone can create a “mash-up” by setting a master tempo and “mixing” in different sources, I decided to make it seem very “manual.”
In other words, in a digital world…I decided to go analog.
I wanted it to sound “rough” as opposed to seamless. If it was seamless, it would sound too much like a modern-day mash-up, and therefore, not authentically Hip-Hop. Whereas a DJ with 2 turntables will make anything work. Even songs that are way too far away from each other tempo-wise to actually mix.
Just an experiment. There’s too much over-produced, polished, music out right now so why add to that?
Thanks for the kind words and I hope you enjoy the album when we release it in a month or so.
