Streetrunner Talks Tha Carter IV
Following a Grammy winning production, “Playing With Fire” on Tha Carter III, Streetrunner makes his return on Dwayne’s Tha Carter IV. The producer spoke to LWHQ about his new track and what type of sound we can expect. Less Rock. More Rap.
LWHQ: We heard you did a ‘crazy’ track for Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV album? Tell us about that… what’s the sound like, could it be a single, features, autotune etc?
SR: I did a really dope joint for the ladies with a soulful sample track that has a feature on the hook. I don’t want to go into to many details about the record cause some internet monster might find it and try to leak it. I got another record that my dude wrote the hook on that almost feels like a Jay Z “What More Can I Say” type track. I think I got 1 other record that’s pending along with those two so I just gotta see what’s up. I will say Weezy is spitting that shit over my tracks and they are 100% Hip Hop.
LWHQ: Have you heard any other material from Tha Carter IV? Or who Wayne has collaborated with on there?
SR: I heard a few joints… It’s definitely what the fans want. He’s just rapping and going hard on it. I think I heard maybe one rocked out track but the majority was rap/Hip Hop tracks. It should be another classic.
LWHQ: Do you know what sound style Wayne has used on the whole album (Tha Carter II, Tha Carter III, Rebirth, soulful, dark etc)?, and you think we will be getting the first single this Summer?
SR: Its a well rounded album… I’m not sure what their plans are for the album as far as releasing singles. I heard they want to try to drop C4 close to his release from prison. All the tracks I heard were going hard. Some soul, some south, some dark and a lil rock…

I would love to hear something like “Shoot Me Down” or “I Feel Like Dying”…no body can say that those weren’t hip-hop, i guess we have to wait and see what he has.

ill reserve a harsher critique on the 4th album to see his post prison stuff.
C4 should be dope. C2 and C3 were dope (I preferd C2) so why not this one? Especialyy is he goes as hard on this as he went on no ceilings and some songs off rebirth. He’s honestly not as bad as some people say…he in my top 10 favorite/entertaining.

C1 was a classic. C2 was str8 but too fuckin long. C3 was ass and overrated. Only songs that were hot were “Comfortable”, “Dr. Carter”, and “Misunderstood”. Oh and the bonus track, “Gossip”. The rest of that shit was catered 2 the pop-ish ass white fans who jus discovered hip hop and think the songs black ppl think r wack, r cool. Lol. As soon as he gets outta his wack ass Rebirth phase (hopefully) then we’ll get that spittin Wayne back. We need 2005-2006 Dedication 2 Wayne back. That right right after post Katrina Wayne back. U guys talkin like Waynes gonna randomly snap out of his garbage-coma and start spitting again its not gonna happen. Since the last decent mixtapes he did (Da Drought 3/The Drought is Over 4), hes dropped Carter 3 (most disappointing album ever), No Ceilings (pretty obvious that it doesnt stand up with his old tapes), and Rebirth (…. I dont even need to explain that one). Now I mean I like some of Wayne’s old stuff as much as anyone, but u cant pretend dude hasnt fallen off hard.
Listen to “Fuck Me In The Moshpit” and then go listen to his “We Takin’ Over freestyle” and tell me thats the same dude.
O yea and i think this is the first producer from Carter 3 to actually say he would work with Cash Money/Lil Wayne again. Good to see they paid somebody.
