Thank Me Later was a better album than Recovery. Drake didn’t give us a classic but I didn’t expect one and none of the song on his albums were flawed or mediocre and he brought something new to the game. Em although he killed most of the tracks lyrically he just gave a mediocre album with some songs having bad or unoriginal production, lousy choruses, and unoriginal subject matter. To me Recovery just showed that Em is still one of the best to ever do it but he needs to grow as an artist/rapper and improve on his beat selections and work on his hooks oh and no more singing either.

Real talk, Recovery is by far a GREAT album, but how the hell some of y’all up here saying Thank Me Later is not buy worthy? Between the two I will be the pure hip-hop fan and advise it just can not be compared because they’re different in to many ways but both great albums. But let’s be honest, how does Em selling that many records save hip-hop? He did his numbers, and he reinvigorated a stale position it was in, no way in hell he saved it by himself. Drake, Rozay (YES even Rick Ross), the mere mention of Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Royce, And Crooked I in a group and hopefully finalized deal with that same white boy, are many factors into saving hip-hop. Listen to the music we get for free, and you can tell what’s worth buying people. But wait, most “fans” will spend that $5 on a street vendor or download a shitload of Wakka Fluck or Gucci Lame songs, play them on repeat, and promote modern era fuckery. I will for one, respect Wakka or the likes of him when they make a very playable song. Which, YES they have, don’t sit there and tell me everything they touch is heavy rotation worthy cuz i’m not buying it.

TML was an average album. The artist just had otherworldly hype/marketing.
Recovery was an above average album but still not as good as MMLP, SSLP and Eminem Show. He was warming up/getting back, I think Em’s next album will be better.

People take Recovery at face value. He took unoriginal subject matter and twisted it. He made it his own. I know the concept of 25 To Life has been done before, but it should be a rule that any rapper that wants to be considered an MC should have a song like that. Then there’s Seduction which is one of my favorite tracks. He took the boring concept of Seduction and turned it into seducing people with his lyricism. Understand the woman in the song represents not only women but critics, fans, haters, etc. Space Bound was written to be taken as a number of things. It’s too vague to be considered one type of a song. It sounds like a song to a woman but it also sounds like a song to drugs too. It’s however you want to take it. Almost Famous is a great concept song. He took it back to the old days.
I think Em took a turn creatively. He wanted to make creative music which I think he did. Most people just don’t realize it because they take his songs at face value.
By the way, Cinderella Man is a banger. Straight up.

There’s a lot of classics on Recovery. There’s also bad ones, lyrically though Recovery is one of his most lyrical albums ever. Every track there’s fire, multi-syllables, punchlines, etc. Everything you would want to be on an album is there even on the bad ones. Even if you hate Em pick up Recovery just support the genre. People back in the day were like “Oh this hip hop shit will die out soon” 2010, it’s still growing, and as big as ever.

There aren’t really bad tracks on Recovery. At least unarguable ones. Can you tell me the worst songs on the album are bad like Ass Like That or Big Weenie? The only one coming close to that is White Trash Party. But ya know what? That song was saved. That third verse is crazy lyrically. Like seriously. Go listen to that third verse again. The first two are passable. But that third one is woah.

Wayne’s verse and Em’s verse don’t belong on the same song, the hook is average. I have a serious system and that shit doesn’t bang. Terrible bassline. And honestly can you really say that’s a Just Blaze beat? Cold wind blows was a more enjoyable track, both lyrically and melody wise. Recovery as a whole was a disappointing album for what everyone’s been expecting from Em. His lyrics are on point, no question about that, but I’m sure this has been reinforced before but the beat selection was terrible and the album has very little replay value. Kanye’s power shuts down EVERY song on RECOVERY!
Play that Bigboi cd and then play Recovery. The latter pales in comparison. Also, even though mad niggas talk shit about Relapse and Em’s accents on the album, fact of the matter is it was a much more consistent album and was simply more entertaining. Songs like “3am”, “bagpipes from baghdad”, “hello”, “same song and dance”, “stay wide awake”, “medicine ball”, “deja vu”, “buffalo bill”, “hell breaks loose” etc etc had great melodies, rhymes and hooks. Em sounds like the old Slim Shady only on a Dr.Dre. Save for “Seduction” and “Space bound” which were amazing songs, ironically some of the other dope tracks were “so bad” and “ridaz” both produced by dr.dre. And just for fucks sake, TML is a more entertaining and bearable album than recovery, hands down.
I’ve never skipped songs entirely on an Eminem album before (aside from encore), but Recovery made me do that again. I’d much rather listen to an Eminem album either produced entirely by himself or Dre. That’s it. Fuck wayne, pink, rihanna etc and make an album with features from D12 and Slaughterhouse. That’s all. Or shit, get Toomp to produce your shit and see where that go, sure as fuck worked for Kanye.

Illmatic is one of the best Hip Hop albums of ALL TIME but it definitly didn’t do big numbers and then people wondered why rappers switched to a more mainstream sound/style. Drake is all hype and no/little content, if you guys exhale all the fumes that the marketing relaeased your left with a boring album, straight up. Not bad, but nothing anyone would notice without the hype from his singles on his mixtapes. Im not hating, really, but most of you guys are waaaay too excited.
Eminem on the other hand, hes back. This album is indeed nice, but not as nice as he potentially can do. This was somewhat of a teaser for his next album, which i hope will be another classic. Enough mainstream already, fuck pink and rihanna…get back and make an album for your fans from the start!

You’re right, that’s one of the reasons people like Eminem, cuz he can bring so many different things and we want to see what’s the next thing he’s gonna bring to the table. He was funny and goofy at first, then passionate and fighting his demons in 8 Mile era, then he was just plain crazy, lost it in Encore era, went away, came back as a serial killer, a great album in my opinion, then a year later he comes calm singing Not Afraid… always into something new and he does it with style.
He does have bad songs, due to bad hooks and beats mostly, but his lyrics and delivery are always on point.
Big up Em and Drake, but if you wanna support the culture pick up The Roots, Distant Relatives and the Wu Massacre god dammit
Em will surely be 1 for another two to three weeks
