Swizz Beatz Explains “Fancy” Handover

YN pointed out a couple of weeks ago that “Fancy” originally featured Mary J. Blige. The track’s producer Swizz Beatz, explains to 1515 how the record landed on Drake’s Thank Me Later.
“It started off as a Swizz record. Then I got Mary [J. Blige] on it. It was supposed to be on her [Stronger With Each Tear], but we missed the deadline. Then I pulled it back for my [upcoming] record. Then five o’clock one morning, on the phone speaking with Drake, he’s in a different time zone, we’re trying to figure out what he needs [for his album]. He’s like, ‘Yo, I just need a record for the ladies.’ I’m on my computer playing him joints over the phone. Then I played him ‘Fancy.’ I was like, ‘You want something like this?’ But I was playing it as a reference.”

Even though the verse on the record were dope……the 2nd half of the record that “40” did was way better then the first half…..

Can we all agree that swizz needs to stop talking on the hooks? He’s ruined so many songs: Fancy, On to the Next One, etc.
He already had a song for the ladies (shut it down) he could’ve used fancies spot for 9am or you know, you know

Second half of Fancy is the only part of the song I listen to, believe it or not. I kinda zip through the first half.

Man all of these songs are meant for Swizz album so he says. First One to the next one was for him but gave it to Jay now Fancy was for his shit but gave it to Drake. Pretty soon this nigga gonna claim songs for his album that he ain’t on or ain’t make the beat for.
