Talking with Grind Music Radio, Nasir’s go-to producer Salaam Remi breaks down how Esco’s “Made You Look” was created. Hey Nas, may not have done what Salaam initially wanted to with the beat, but it sure turned out well nonethelss. They shootin’!

i wish nas Just had better beat selections, i cant lie this is Nas only Drawback he doesnt fold to industry pressure. Salaam wanted a number 1 billboard hit —-Nas wanted a hood classic. Hate to say it but Hood classics dont matter no more people want pop hits. i give nas credit still doing music his way after all these years even if it means he dont move units. Salaam Remi is one of the most unfairly hated producers online. Dude is crazy nice, and he still making dope records (Who you think produced Big Boi’s Follow Us?) but its like people blame him for Nas’ beat selection and everyone wanna throw out a bunch of fucking names when they talk about beats people should do on his album. Never mind the fact that half the dudes you mentio for Nas aint been nice since the 90s or early 2000s anyway. He already made an album with big name producers and some of you still complained (Hip Hop is Dead)
If anything hes the only dude who still gives him good beats (What Goes Around, Legendary, Theif’s Theme, Cant Stop Us Now, Made You Look, Nazerth Savage). He has that classic 90s feel that y’all bitch about missing so much.
And hes nice with the reggae and soul production.
Man, fuck tha haters, Salaam Remi is the TRUTH! He produced a lot of Nas’ dope shit and held the bulk work 4 Chrisette Michele, Amy Winehouse, and Jazmine Sullivan’s debut albums which were all classics! U niggaz don’t know great music when u hear it…Salaam Remi is one of the dopest PRODUCERS period.
Nas needs to giv Salaam 1 track, on th nex album. Get producers named uptop nd make another classic. So what if they dnt make top10 hits. THS AINT 4 Z100!

This songs a classic.. But for some reason ive never really cared for the salaam remi beats.. Alchemist and nas are good combo.. Les and nas are dope too.. But everyone knows premo and nas is where its at..
I think talking about Nas’ beat selection just makes people feel like they are saying something profound. His beat selection fits his music well generally and his worst music is better than 98% of the stuff that is out with it. Most crucified dude in the game as usual.

Nas has had the greatest beat selection in hip hop history for an mc that’s not a producer. Nas selected the beats for illmatic, that should be enough to last a life time. Him (nas) not folding to industry pressure is what makes him an all time great. Hip Hop is not about moving units to over-privileged suburban kids.
