Oh and by the way I heard a glimpse of you at Rock the Bells in NY, you were dreadful. Couldn’t wait until Tribe and Wu came out. So annoying just knowing you got some of my money from the show.

Get over it man. Take your hate somewhere else. People spend so much time hating. Take that energy and promote and give proper due to the people who u think deserve it. People.. I will never understand them.

  5. Belize says:

deep breaths @DJ Game. Fuck, why are SIX out of 15 shows at New York?

  6. ZoomZoom says:

BET SHE CAN’T SELL OUT SHOWS LIKE NICKI MINAJ LOL HAHA! YOU A HAS-BEEN !

  7. Dewan says:

@DJ Game. Why do u call her racist? Is it because of her supposed MTV statement years ago that, “I would rather die than have white people buy my albums.” She never said that. It’s an URBAN LEGEND. Check it out on Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/lauryn.asp

If not that, then why do you call her a racist?

  8. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

No Fort Lauderdale? Thats fucked up Lauryn !

  9. James says:

YEAH! NEW YORK IS WHERE THE PAPER IS HA HA!!!

  10. IZM says:

    lmao @ DumDum

Lauryn’s debut won 5 Grammys and went 9x platinum… kinda makes Pink Friday look like little kid shit.

  11. Nicki Minaj et tois says:

@IZM sn album wit dogs barking went platinum in thos days…i wanna see her sell that much now…oh she cant now can she…haha PINK FRIDAY!!

  12. IZM says:

If youre referring to the Baha Men’s album, then no, it didnt go platinum. If youre just making things up, then somehow Im not surprised.

Im curious, tho, did the imaginary “dogs barking” album get nominated for 10 grammys and win 5? How many Grammys does Nicki have, for that matter? Cuz Lauryn broke the record for most wins in a night. And honestly, u have absolutely no idea what she might sell today, cuz shes been on hiatus since “Miseducation”. So by the last info we have, she should out-sell Nicki by about… 1600%.

Its incredible how some people are so proud to be ignorant. Have fun with that.

  18. dante says:

DAMN @NICKI MINAJ ET TOIS GOT TOLD!! I FUX WITH NICKI BUT I HAVE TO SIDE WITH IZM ON THIS ONE. “MISEDUCATION” IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST HIP-HOP/R&B ALBUMS OF ALL TIME. YES, OF ALL TIME. IF YOU DISAGREE GO GIVE A LISTEN AND LEARN SOMETHING. TO GO ONE STEP FURTHER I’LL SAY LAURYN HILL IS ALSO BY FAR THE BEST FEMALE RAPPER OF ALL TIME; NICKI, FOXY, KIM, & A PLETHORA OF OTHERS CAN DUKE IT OUT FOR 2ND. EVEN IF SHE IS A RACIST I’M STILL DOWN WITH HER. I MEAN I FUX WITH KANYE ALMOST AS HARD AS ANYONE (NO HOMO) BUT I HATE HIM AS A PERSON. STOP TAKING YOURSELF SO GOD DAMN SERIOUSLY FOOL. REALLY. YOUR MUSIC SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

SO ANYWAYS WHO AM I TO JUDGE MS HILL ON HER BELIEFS. I JUST WANT HER TO PLAY HER MUSIC.

“Lauryn Hill said her heart was in Zion, I wish her heart was still rhyming…so who the kids gone listen to…I guess it’s me if it isn’t you”

Last night I attended one of the most anticipated come backs in recent history. No, I didn’t rewind time to get front row seats to the Bulls/Pacers game to witness Michael Jordan antagonize the Indiana fans. Or even get tickets to the This Is It Concert to watch the King of Pop moonwalk on our hearts one last time. I watched in a quant, dimly lit venue with standing room only the return of music’s greatest female R&B/Hip Hop artist. Ms. Lauryn Hill graced us with her fashionable late presence around midnight which isn’t the topic of this editorial. I’m a firm believer in Kanye’s quote that “good things come to those who wait.” So as with the song she was about an hour late however, she wasn’t worth the wait.
It’s really painful for me to admit these thoughts but there was a plethora of mixed emotions that I struggled with during her sell out concert her in Charleston, SC. The moment when her band began to enter the stage…a sense of excitement came over me and the anticipation began to build. Then as her face appeared at corners of the stage from the curtain…I felt a sense of relief and nostalgia. Relief that she actually showed up and that all of the rumors and the possibility of her being a no show was dispelled. Then a surreal high engulfed me as I thought about being in the same room with greatness. To be an arm’s length away…to breath the same air…to be in the presence of a living legend was overwhelming. However, the one emotion that I continued to return to even when I woke this morning was a sense of SADNESS. I was truly sad for her as person, as an artist, as a Mom, as a strong black women with an innate tenacity that refuses to give up.
I looked around several times at the audience to see if they were hearing her voice as I did…to see if they saw what I saw. Most of them were a drunken mass of mostly Caucasians students from the local college. They had no idea why the band continued to play over Lauryn’s voice. They had no idea that she struggled through the classics that made her famous. I felt like I was the only one that understood …she was a great singer that no longer had the ability to bellow out the strong notes that once made her a household name. Then that feeling returned…the sadness…only to be followed by a mountain of guilt. I felt a sense of guilt because I was one of the leaches. I was one of the blood thirsty moochers that refused to let her go. Refused to let her return to some sense of normalcy…to live her life as a “regular” person. We want Lauryn…I want Lauryn…we all chanted in unison before she entered the stage. We, the fans, have driven her to this act desperation, this embarrassing moment. It’s my fault. It’s your fault. It’s our fault.
When do we let go of our Ideals? Do we continue to pull and tug every ounce of their being until they have nothing left? When do they as humans realize that they are just that…HUMAN? Will they ever be willing to step down off that pedestal that we so pretentiously put them on and face their truths. Has the fame become an addiction for them as it was for MJ? Has the mask become so thick with fabrication that you can no longer live without it? Do they every take themselves out the game, like Mike, only to return a year or two later to embarrassed themselves even further?
Will they ever say to themselves that “I don’t have anymore…I quit!”
