’10 Best Albums: #6 Kid Cudi Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager

This ain’t for everybody. Anchored by producers, Plain Pat and Emile, Kid Cudi takes us on another dark ride but this time it revolves around some guy named Mr. Rager? Yup, I’m confused about that part too. But seriously I do know good music, and this G.O.O.D. music artist’s sophomore release has plenty of it. From hippy dippy trippy (“Mojo So Dope”) to vulnerable (“All Alone”) to brash (“Ashin Kusher”), Scottie bares his soul whether through singing or spittin’ bars. The album’s true highlights are two brilliant and bizarre pairings with Mary J. Blige (“Don’t Play This Song” and “These Worries”). Let’s hope Mr. Mescudi doesn’t let personal issues take him off his trail as a recording artist. He’s got his own lane already. And most importantly, his voice is needed.

  2. veesky says:

Definitely one of the years best

  3. Yooo says:

i seem to be one of the only people that was a lil disappointed with this *shrugs*

  4. kCudi says:

Album was really dissapointing. I still listen to a couple of songs, but it’s just not like his first album. Maybe because the expectations were to high.

  5. IZM says:

@Yooo no dude I was feeling like that from the first time I heard this one

I still remember the 4 songs worth listening to: The Mood, Mojo So Dope, MANIAC, and that first one with Cee-Lo. Other than that, this was completely forgettable.

  6. Ac@pella! says:

Uh oh. Niggaz r about to flip out on this one. Lol. Tho I do disagree that it should be above HIGO, I agree that it is a dope ass album and one of my faves in 2010.

  7. Ice Cold says:

Love This album like the songs, erase me, wylin cause I’m young and REVOFEV

  8. Your Mom says:

Mr. Rager = Obvious reference to his use of blow and a character he either becomes or has created in his mind as a result. Pretty good record actually.

  9. Later says:

This album is friggin amazing good spot I guess maybe deserves to be higher. Depends what the next albums are.

You are right tho Cudi ain’t for everybody. Dumbass people won’t like his music because…well…they are dumbasses

  10. slimshady says:

MBDTF SHOULD BE NUMBER 1, BIG BOI NUMBER 2, THIS NUMBER 3 NOT FUCKING 6.

  11. Chris says:

Now this really was a dissapointing album. I think “Wylin cause Im young” was the only album I listened.

Cudi had one of the best albums of 2009, but I thought this was a follow up that was too spaced out. As you said its clearly not for everyone.

But that’s now 4 albums that were either in the worst or best of list that you could put over Distant Relatives for most dissapointing lol (Wu Massace, Pink Friday, No Mercey, The Legend of Mr. Rager)

But your mixtape list was on point)

  12. Jones says:

Was turned off from this dude during G.O.O.D. fridays and never gave this a listen. Ashin Kusher is dope, but never really picked up on anything else

  13. Chris says:

*only song I liked to I meant to say

  14. veesky says:

@ IZM, I respect ur opinion…but, “forgettable”? I’d say far from it. I’m a huge CuDi fan and while I agree this album was a departure from his first, it definitely has a lot of depth to it. He really highlights his ups and downs well. Admittedly, it took me a little while to really get into it.

  15. x says:

it shoulda have been like this

    1 – MBDTF
    2 – Distant Relatives
3 – Sir lucious left foot

  18. TJ says:

would of landed on my dissapointing list.

  19. Purple Sweater Gang says:

I thought this album was great. But you have to really like Cudi and his unique style to love this album like I do. It doesn’t have the typical mindless club songs that most ppl comin out with these days

  20. JackFrost says:

1st album was classic, but this shouldn’t have placed below 9th spot. imo.

  21. IZM says:

    @veesky

I was just thinking about it and I think my biggest complaint with the album is that Cudi forgot to show up. I liked Kid Named Cudi and MOTM1, cuz even through the unorthodox style, u could tell he was dedicated; everything from the song construction to the album format was different, and undeniably “Kid Cudi”.

And then this mess. From the generic pop records (Erase Me), to the stupid (and also generic) token songs (Marijuana), to his apparent decision to NEVER rhyme EVER, this was just a very “forgettable” offering from what used to be an interesting artist.

(and then he topped it all off with that horrible honking, shrieking, moaning GARBAGE on Ghost. I mean seriously, what the fuck was that? It sounded like he tried to sing the song in duck.)

  22. Chance says:

MotM1 So much better than this

  23. EsatD says:

    To me
    1.Eminem – Recovery
    2. Drake – Thank Me Later
    2.Kanye West – MBDTF
    4.Kid Cudi – MOTM2
    5.Rick Ross – Teflon Don
    6.B.o.B – TAOBR
    7.T.I. – No Mercy
    8.Yelawolf – Trunk Music
    9.Lloyd Banks – HFM2
    10.Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday

  24. Dashing says:

Damn, this definitely deserves to be on the list, but I’m wondering about B.o.B or Big Boi. One of ’em didn’t make the cut.

  25. KAE Hock says:

If you like Kid Cudi’s music………………..Cut ya ears off

    – Kimbo Price

  26. COLD BLOOD says:

    1. KANYE WEST — MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY
    2. THE ROOTS — HOW I GOT OVER
    3. CURRENSY — PILOT TALK II
    4. BIG BOI — SIR LUCIOUS LEFT FOOT
    5. EMINEM — RECOVERY
    6. REFLECTION ETERNAL — REVOLUTION PER MINUTE
    7. SLUM VILLAGE — VILLA MANIFESTO
    8. GHOSTFACE KILLAH — APOLLO KIDS
    9. LLOYD BANKS — HUNGER FOR MORE 2
    10. RICK ROSS — TEFLON DON

    YOU CAN HATE ME NOW!

  27. Money Mitch says:

    I love this record

  28. PITRI says:

This album’s Fuckin DOPE..Must listen when you blaze..

  29. veesky says:

@ IZM I definitely enjoyed both of those efforts as well. I agree about “Erase Me”, easily coulda done without it…I guess the difference in our opinions is, the same things you think took away from the album, I thought presented a new or altered if you will perspective. This is Scott Mescudi after he’s gotten some fame, some money, notoriety and even a kid. Although he took a different route, even rhymed less (which I miss myself) the transparency that’s evident in so much of the album to me us undeniable. “All Along” “Ghost” “Trapped In My Mind”, plenty of standouts IMO. But hopefully with his next effort, he’ll find that balance between this darker side and what made us fans in the first place.

    respect

  30. dmfslimm says:

and ill be whylin till im chillin old……..

  31. dmfslimm says:

    and it AINT for everybody.

  32. dat bull says:

agreed, this shit aint for me

  33. Errol says:

Rage is Kid Cudi’s definition of getting fucked up and having a good time. Mr. Rager is the person he became because of all of the Rage. Do you listen to his music or just skim through it? This would be my #1 album if Kanye didn’t drop a monster 2 weeks later. Cudi > Wale

  34. Marquese says:

WOW r u serious this album was the biggest dissapointment of the year besides no mercy

  35. Errol says:

Did you not see the Mr. Rager Bape tee shirt? YN do your fucking research

  36. TEAM WORLD says:

THis shit was weak as Hell… 1 should be…

  37. Belize says:

Really…? I have a hard time classifying this as rap…

  38. Dead Snoopy says:

I wanted to root for this but aside from the amazing cover, Cudi is like personified narcolepsy at times. I couldn’t even get hyped sitting through his HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA appearances on HBO. Like, go make some bangers….

  39. Mr Xclusive says:

this album was horrible…only for potheads

  40. Maestro says:

Cudder has grown on me something serious. I was one of the cats saying this shit wasn’t for me a year ago, but after actually giving this album a chance, I really enjoy it. Mescudi is an interesting dude with a method to his madness.
