GLAAD Reacts To Lil B I’m Gay Title

Over the weekend, Lil B revealed that I’m Gay was the title of his next album. While many have had mixed reactions, he’s gotten support from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Here’s what they told XXL:
“As a lyricist, Lil B knows that words matter. Slurs have the power to fuel intolerance. We hope that Lil B’s album title is not just a gimmick, and is really a sincere attempt to be an ally. He has the platform and the voice. We hope he uses it in a positive way.”

While being gay is concidered an illness in most communities around the world the really ill person is the homophobic. Homophobia is a serious social illness. I dont hate gay people. They dont even annoy me.
Guys that are too into fashion annoy me. Lady Gaga and europop annoys me. Lisps annoy me. Males making effeminate hand gestures annoy me. Oversensitivity annoys me. Drama queens annoy me; over-dramatic public displays of affection from ANYBODY annoy me; small dogs, Toyota Prius’s, capri pants and guys that are afraid of dirt- all annoy me.

in response to homophobic arguments that have been brought up on this forum:
1. “I don’t dislike gay people, I just dislike the things that gay people happen to like”
It’s almost impossible for me to believe that the choice to dislike what gay culture typically consists of reflects anything more than an individual who, realizing there is not reasonable grounds to hate gay people on account of their homosexuality, have come up with some sort of cop out reason why they can treat homosexuals disrespectfully while at the same time not defending the indefensible position that it is okay to hate someone because of sexual preference. Taking you position seriously for a moment, I will say the following: the things gay people are into might not be what you are into. That’s fine. No one is asking you to assimilate into gay culture or something like that. However, being into clothing, making “effeminate” (you obviously don’t understand that gender is a social construction) hand gestures, etc. are NOT things that you are justified in disliking a person for. You should judge human beings based on how they treat other people, and the kind of impact they make on their community, not stupid shit like whether they wear a hoodie. I mean, are you fucking kidding me?
2. Gay people choose to be gay.
This reflects a misunderstanding of what I believe causes people to be gay. Obviously, there is a difference between being black and being gay. Gay people do “choose” to have homosexual relations, but that doesn’t mean they choose to be sexually predisposed towards members of the same sex. It has to do with their psychological inclinations. Some gay people seem to be psychologically inclined towards homosexuality from birth. Other people seem to develop this psychological inclination later on. So, yes, gay people do make the choice to have sex with members of their own sex, but that doesn’t mean they CHOSE to be attracted to men. That’s just silly. I can’t see any reason why we should blame individuals for being psychologically disposed towards a certain sexual preference. Consensual sex between two men doesn’t hurt anybody in any meaningful sense.
3. Being gay is against “nature”.
What nature? What is natural? Most people are straight because, as the result of a series of natural events in the physical world, it happens to be the case that most humans with penis like to fuck humans with vaginas. This is also the means by which human beings procreate. However, it seems to be equally the case that, as a result of a series of natural physical events, some people are born with a preference for homosexual behavior. There is no reason why the fact that this behavior doesn’t allow for procreation makes it morally wrong, or justifies disrespect for those individuals.
4. Arguments regarding God
Honestly, if your religious beliefs tell you that homosexuality is wrong than I don’t know what to say to you. I encourage you to give up those beliefs. I can however, say that we live in a society that, while religious beliefs of any character are tolerated, the way that we interact with other human beings is secular. Religion should not have any impact on the moral rules of conduct that come into play when we interact with other people in a public context.
I doubt any of you homophobic douchebags will be able to tell what I’m talking about, or offer any sophisticated responses to what I’m saying. Mostly, it’s because your beliefs are informed by ignorance, hatred, and a culture that reinforces harmful attitudes towards certain individual for arbitrary reasons. I applaud Lil B for resisting that culture. Swag.
