Let me get cha up to speed old timer. Kreayshawn is an up-and-comer from Oakland affiliated with Lil B and Odd Future. A few days ago, Miss Info said she signed a million dollar contract with Sony based on the song above. This afternoon, Complex posted an in-depth interview with her where she says the deal has yet to be completed.
“[As far as the deal with Sony] nothing is finalized yet. But we’ve definitely been taking a whole bunch of meetings for the past week. We took meetings with every label. They’re not the only people we met with. We’ll make an announcement when everybody is ready, but right now, that’s basically just a rushed ahead rumor. It’s not that exciting. Whatever we end up choosing, it’s going to be a well thought-out decision.”

I like Kreayshawn, I think the song is funny and has massive novelty factor. (And I thought I spotted Left Brain in the video, I wasn’t too sure.) But her buzz hasn’t grown anywhere near the heights it needs to in order to warrant such a huge deal. It remains to be seen if she and her Whitegirl Mob are truly worth anything.
I do think it’s interesting that people are finally championing a white female MC. I can’t think of any others—Fergie and Ke$ha certainly don’t count.

Eventually it, like every other gimmick, will get old, and then in about a decade it will be revived again. Just because an artist relies on a gimmick doesnt necessarily make them trash, but the distinguishing factor has to be a layer of talent underneath the gimmick. A decade ago, Eminem had an element of talent in his “shock rap” gimmick. ICP did not. This sounds more like the talentless version to me.

I could care less about money defining an artist.. kids do.. and if you’ve been paying attention youd see whats happening with Odd Future.. they sell out every single play they go in under 24 hours.. whether your in line or not is irrevelant. its kind of the point… its a statement against people like you in your air force ones.. grandpa!!

Except for the TV show thing, and even then, E-40 was on the Wire. And Odd Future doesnt have a TV show, they just did a pilot, which is the easy part (it still needs to get picked up). I like a few dudes from OF, but the hyphy comparison actually describes this new Bay trend pretty well.

1) not worldwide, some spot small club shows in VERY FEW markets
2) deal isnt on the same planet
3) Shows been picked up for one season.. Dickhouse (jackass has signed on)
4) their splits and master revision arent even close
5) this one is just ridiculous

7) E40 played 3 festivals.. OF is doing 23 in first year as a headliner
