Chuck D Clarifies “Notice (Know This)”

On Chuck D’s birthday this past Monday, the Public Enemy leader made a home video rapping over a chopped up version of “Otis”. Many deemed it as a shot at The Throne. He spoke with AHH and explained his reasoning for the song.

“In these difficult times for many people (especially of color), this is a call to artists to continue to inspire, but to reflect the people better than the media does. Here’s to hoping that the Jay-Z & Kanye supergroup can elevate the masses to try a little bit more to reflect Otis’ heart rather than swag, because they’re too good to be less.”

    Chuck D’s a legend and all, but he should shut the fuck up about Hov and Kanye, and go holla at his coon compadre. Flav coulda used his platform on VH 1 to highlight social issues. Where was Chuck, then?

  8. Your mother's "friend" says:

    Oh please ! “too good to be less” huh smh, Jay & Ye don’t owe nobody anything if i want social commentry ill go to Common, Talib, Lupe, Immortal technique etc . If i were Jay i would feel insulted by this , its funny how people are quick to forget all the charitable stuff jay does The Shawn Carter foundation has been putting kids thru college since 02 but of course noone talks about that .If he really wants to “elevate the masses” why doesn’t he do it himself ?? why does it always have to be the next man ??

    @AJ
    once again, if you have read any of the reviews of the album you would have seen that the content of the album is personal and thought provoking in dealing with social issues and personal issues such as black on black violence, making it as a black man in america, questions of religion, and faith, talking about unborn children n the lives they will inherit…of course there is stuntin on the album too..but anyone at this point who says they have been following this album should kno that theres not gonna be 16 songs of straight stuntin.

  18. m85 says:

    @Aj
    My point exactly..thats what alot of the content of the album deals with, i dont kno how you could not kno that by now,even witout none of us actually hearing the album, if you’ve read any review about the CONTENT of the album you would kno that its not 16 Otis Tracks..which brings me back to my original point…has anyone informed Chuck D bout this or is he basing his view off ONE song

    Chuck D is the truth!
