gotta take issue with that “You Played Yourself” post. The job of a journalist is the get the story, not to be a publicity arm for the artist/label. If you choose to respect the “rules” of a listening event, then that’s cool. i’m sure you’ll be invited back to more and he won’t.
but to post the picture of the “offender” and to try to play him out in public i believe is the wrong move. i realize there’s a lot of grey in this situation (he’s got his own blog, isn’t working for a publication, there wasn’t supposed to be anything recorded, etc) but really, you shouldn’t be the one criticizing it.
in the past, journalists made their careers off this sort of move. I worked with a guy who’s greatest coupe with sneaking into a rolling stones sound check with a craft services team and then scooping the set list before anyone else. he wasn’t supposed to be there, it “violated” the agreement with the artist/publicists etc, but at the end of the day he was respected for his hustle. certainly not called out by fellow journalists….
