I don’t understand how people could take time and energy out of their day to post negative comments about someone. If you really hate Wayne, don’t respond. Your negative comments still count dummies. The owners and operators of blogs post stories about people who garner the MOST traffic whether negative or positive! So when you rush to a blog that has a lil Wayne topic just to say something negative about the dude you are bringing traffic to the site and keeping Wayne relevant. Wayne is as good if not better than every rapper who has come before him who values his career. At some point ALL rappers BETTER try their hardest to cross over and appeal to a broader audience because rapper for the first 100 people who “used to love your underground” music doesn’t pay bills. Especially, when the first 100 start deciding you don’t flow the same or spit as hard as you used to. Wayne nice, stop hating.

And people want to show their displeasure with this gimmick, and as you can see it’s unanimous. Noone other than you has said anything positive about him on this post, and no way anyone can.
You’re fooling yourself if you’re still saying wayne is nice and attributing this gimmick to crossing over, or reaching a wider audience. Crossing over is necessary to have longevity in your career, but this is not an example of how it’s done and it’s not like he was going from underground to mainstream here, he’s been mainstream forever. He’s trying to pass that point at which you either loose it or ride on like Jay Z, Eminem, Kanye.. they are a solid example of staying relevant though Kanye still needs to prove himself. But with these gimmicks wayne is only falling even faster.

To dude who made the comment about crossing over, Jay aint doing what he started out doing. Jay was on the stage with a smedium t shirt and a snap back! GTFOH! He’s definielty trying to appeal to a broader audience. 50 had an album with 5 pop artist, he was clearly trying to appeal to a broader audience. Eminem is WHITE he started out in mainstream. He had to convince the urban (black) sector that he was deserving of it’s attention. Right now, weird and abstract is the new look for crossover. When MC Hammer was hot, gangster ran mainstream music Hammer tried to cross BACK from POP success to gangster. Wayne’s whole look is an attempt to make ok what urban culture says isn’t. It’s no different than Lady Gaga’s attempts to blur sex lines and garner more acceptance of an “alternative” lifestyle. Beyonce made urban music but her music sounds more mainstream than before. Cross over is cross over. Waybe doesn’t look like the traditional rapper, he looks like an extra in a Bruno Mars video or skater dvd. It’s all a deliberate attempt to crossover. Pay attention people. Again, if you don’t like dude don’t say anything. Let him do him and if it’s not working you won’t see him anymore. If that’s your mission, let it happen. Your comments or sending him back to the drawing board.

@yat my comments are for those who DON’T want Wayne to succeed. I know label reps visit these sites for feedback and I understand constructive criticism. However, to those who “hate” just to hate, if your objective is to ruin the persons career and to send them off into obscurity, you are failing because your post and comments are helping him and giving those label reps info to take back to the drawing board. @MrH Jay is wearing the same style he had 5 years ago, and 10 years ago. On official business you see him in suits, in videos and concerts mostly casual style like the one on VMA’s. It’s definitely not a cross over style. And Eminem being WHITE and mainstream from the beginning?? He had years of underground experience before Dre found him. Just cause someone is WHITE doesn’t meant they get a huge jump start. Of course everyone is trying to sell, therefore Eminem feat Rihanna, 50 feat every pop hook, wayne feat ross, drake etc. But he is at a point where he needs a new lane in music and he obviously can’t find it, much like 50, so he is copying what he thinks is hot, drake’s sound, Odd Future’s clothing etc.. He’s trying to change his whole image to something not even remotely connected to what he was before. And he’s doing it as soon as he figures out his latest style isn’t working. And the worst part is he’s focusing more on style and promotion then on making good music which is the only thing that can keep his career going. Jay started rapping more serious, less hood rap and therefore crossed over long time ago. Eminem is trying to establish a more serious image, Kanye went emotional, but 50 kept rapping gangsta, wayne kept going giberrish, that rebirth didn’t work so now he’s on the next bandwagon, and people ain’t buying his bandwagons anymore. The point is he’s not growing, or evolving, but trying to become something completely different over night, and it’s just not real enough for anyone to believe in his image anymore.
