During his performance at Rock The Bells on Saturday, Mos Def tells Peter Rosenberg that next year, he will be going by the stage name of Yasiin. Great, hopefully music stays the same.

Mos changing his name isn’t bad……clearly he’s a forward thinker and does things his own way. AND HE STILL IS DOPE (Thank You The Estatic). I can respect that in hip hop. He could call himself YOSHI for all i care……….that man is HIP HOP through and through and a fantastic musician.

Mos Def is Muslim. Always has been. He’s just expressing his faith through his name. I personally like it, being Muslim myself and therefore having an understanding of where he’s coming from.
I wonder if this is like a record label thing don’t people change their names sometimes to get out of deals. Yasiin sounds like a Muslim name might be appropriate given his sound lately.
