Ne-Yo checked in with Power 105 this morning. He explains why he passed on portraying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the Lee Daniels film and his distaste in acting. He also spoke on going Pop, today’s R&B as well as Trey Songz and Frank Ocean. Sounds like Ne-Yo is a disatisfied man.

He passed on the role because he had to take his off.

  2. Regular Guy says:

Real cool interview. He’s 100% right about R&B now.

  3. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

Jeezy (Ft. Ne-Yo) – Leave You Alone is nice. Ne-Yo is a smart dude. I forgot he left DEF JAM. I like old R&B like Sam Cooke and Bill Withers.

  4. Nickey Negrito says:

This was a great interview and the 1st time i ever paid attention to Ne-Yo in an interview and actually listen to exactly what he has to say. I believe i gained a little more respect for Ne-Yo. Interviews can also help an artist gain another fan. As long as the interview is true and informative.

COMPLETELY disagree on Frank Ocean……………he’s single handedly the closest thing to dope R&B i’ve heard in YEARS! If anything….i feel like Ne*yo’s joints sound more disconnected than most things i’ve heard if not ALL things i’ve heard from Frank Ocean.

The last great NEYO project was “Year of the Gentleman”…..i thought that project was STUPENDIS….but since then….even his r&b has missed that feeling. I kept hearing contrived attempts at recreating “closer” and etc…….

But I do agree that a lot of that “I FEEL THAT” feeling is missing from r&b right now. Frank Ocean and Dwele are probably the only relatively new cats that grips me slightly with R&B right now.

  6. Collar Cali says:

I respect Ne-Yo & far more superior than what we have out now. I rock with him all the way. Can’t wait for his new joint…

“Sometimes the music will feed your artistic soul & the music that feeds your kids may not be the same…”

    Real Talk!

  7. Collar Cali says:

@micolrankin Go listen to Libra Scale!

Loved this interview. It was honest, raw, and filled with emotion. A lot of artist could learn a lot from Ne-Yo. Couldn’t agree with him more about the state of R&B. I often feel that way with a lot of Rap out now as well. Not to mention, I’m glad he is taking a stand against the reality TV — he’s better than that
