which means he probly meet tupac to

    he tupac’s protege

  6. Ghost says:

Can you do a truth episode where you talk about the hypocrisy behind discussing the quality of rap music but then posting Flo Rid and Willow Smith on your blog?

  7. Los says:

Despite what any naysayers might think, this album will be one of the most important in hip hop’s history books, he’s cemented that already. The crazy shit is people who are giving it these high critical acclaims haven’t even fully digested it, and speak to the storyline of the album in a wrong way.

The Pitchfork review, for instance, gives it a 9.5/10, and the reviewer believes Kendrick avoided his first brush with violence on the first track when his mom called, when in fact that actually plays out toward the end of the album and he didn’t avoid shit, he got setup by Sherane.

So, giving something a 9.5/10 without even fully grasping the storyline, means as people listen more and realize that the story is actually playing out differently than they thought the first time they heard it, it’ll make an even bigger impact.

  8. @rowjayC.O.B says:

I wanna see Elliott do one on his friend the rapper Rick Ross

  9. Your mother's "friend" says:

Not a fan but i think it’s Kendrick’s hype is good for the culture, there’s no denying rap has become tedious & boring so while Kendricks subject matter may not be new & refreshing to me or my generation(mind you im only 25) it is to teenagers out there & it might open their minds a little

  10. CaliSteppin says:

Album has been playing nonstop in my car and iPod. The album is a breath of fresh air that was needed in hip hop. It’s the best debut album since college dropout

  11. jk says:

the poeple are the boss, if the think kendrick is the new west king its is so 🙁
    monky follows monkey

  12. KingJuggaNott says:

He has the talent, the vision, all the above to make a great character and emcee in the hip hop world. I say some of his mix tapes are some of the best music in hip hop for a while. Nothing lives up to the hype–but his hype is justified. He’s worth more than a listen. He is needed in hip hop–he can also push rhymers to not just battle–give gems like he does.

  13. KingJuggaNott says:

Fuck the digital copy–i gotta get the actual disc to go next to my Watch the Throne-sitting on my bookshelf.

  14. Kobe says:

Now YN and RR wanna ride Kendrick’s dick. Ha!

  15. deez says:

its good, but way too early to be throwing around “classic”

  16. The Real Truth says:

Kendrick is the best rapper from the West period, the rest of the Black Hippies are nice too…. I think Game is washed and its a wrap for his bipolar ass ….

I think K.Dot has the best album to come out this year…. best debut album since maybe Lupe’s Food and Liquor…. J Cole’s album is close tho…..

I hope he does big numbers

  17. the brain trust says:

You know the culture is in the toilet when Elliot Wilson is talking about 1st week sales as opposed to the album’s quality.

Sure, commercial success is relatively important, but it should always be an afterthought.

Congrats to Kendrick. Reviews are universally positive.

  18. Hip-Hop Fiend says:

@deez I’m gonna kill you twice bish… If this ain’t a classic than wtf is? smh… Get off B.Dot dick ya bish

  19. YESSS says:

he needs dre direction on next album like game did on documentary, dre is the doctor TDE are used to mixtapes that good kid maad city has only three songs good

  20. Fire Marshall D.O.O.B says:

It’s funny YN says Dre was sounding like KDot but actually KDot wrote his shit so who else would he sound like ???

  21. Black Shady says:

So 1 second you say Dre was tryna sound like K.dot on The Recipe
and 2 sentences later you say “people were worried Dre was gonna change Kdot’s sound”

    LOL WHAT????

and why wait on SALES to know the impact of Kdot on hip hop??? why not review the ALBUM instead Elliot?

  22. trae says:

k.dot is expected to do 200k. he’s eatinggggg

  23. JOHNNYblaze says:

your mothers friend is exactly how i feel about kendrick lamar right now. I dont think he is that great, , im 24 almost 25, and i think we got to listen to more raw rap hiphop back we were teens coming towards now, where there are 14/15 looking for something fresh and relevant now. i will check it out but the hype is somewhat altering what ill expect from a non fan.

  24. stoner logic says:

the album was ok, i didn’t get that feeling like when i 1st heard college dropout, food & liquor, C2, the black album & the documentary……..his album is good, not a classic for all the kendrick lamar dick riders

  25. THE BUS DRIVER THAT UPPERCUT THAT HOE says:

The album is projected to do 200k first week Congrats cant lie i never expected that much

  26. Donn says:

Album was great. But Kendrick is in competition with artists period, not just HipHop. Rap fans throw around classic too much cus their in the moment. Relax. Enjoy the album, but classic albums are those that live on to impact the culture with slang, samples, remakes, cultural impact, etc. clap for him and let the cd marinate on the culture. He has a great HIPHOP album of the year. But in terms of ALBUM of the year, u have to listen to more genres of music before u throw out shit like that. If u only listen to HipHop then say he has the best HIPHOP album of the year

  27. stoner logic says:

^^^yeah but GKMC is not gonna impact the culture in any of those ways, it’s just a good album

  28. CaliSwag818 says:

Idiots, so if you REALLY feeling an album you’re a “dick rider”? Enjoying something that moves you isn’t being a dick rider . If you not feeling the album as much are you then a “hater”? Mofo’s need to read a book and educate yourselves. FOH

  29. MAGZ says:

hell yeah i cop discs to fuck a digital

  30. Exile says:

Bought the deluxe version of the LP and love it so far. Track 3 is a standout for me

  31. koO says:

I’ve been a fan of hiphop for almost 20 years and I have never said this before: This is the best album I have ever heard.

Not only are the lyrics and flow superb, but they fit so well with with the incredible production. It’s almost like somebody was sitting on the instrumentals just waiting for a worthy MC to dive into it and morph it into the beast it is.

Fuck album of the year, to me Kendrick Lamar is the greatest of all time.

  32. Hater's Ball says:

    The album’s kinda boring

  33. Cam says:

Elliot, why are you so gay ?

  34. SpaceGhostBlacc says:

@ko0 did you say kendrick lamar is G.O.A.T??? -_____- ok

but the album is cool, NOT A CLASSIC lmao

  35. Mike smiff says:

It’s not all Kendrick.. Anything Dre touches %80 of the time makes the artist.. Without Dre, the west coast will die..he’s the heart of the west coast..

  36. Tru Talk says:

Kendrick isn’t the king of the West Coast.. HE”S THE KING OF RAP PERIOD… TDE!!! HIIIPOWER

  37. Dashing says:

We already know that this is the best rap album of the year. Life is Good was awesome but “Reach Out” and “Summer on Smash” are just aight and Good kid Maad city has no just aight tracks.

    The better question is….

Is Kendrick the best west coast rapper of all time?

  38. stoner logic says:

^^^you just fucked up when you said that

  39. Banana Puddin says:

    Dying of thirst, nuff’ said.

  40. M.T says:

kendrick has album of the year. the hype is real. The album isnt a classic. niggas are just caught in the moment and will throw classic on any album they think is outstanding. Also the album has been on repeat.

  41. tinkerview says:

@stoner Logic your comment lost credibility soon as you said C2, this album shits on that

  42. fu says:

    this is bullshit!
why not do a ‘Truth’ episode on rick ross instead of Kendrick

  43. Gyp Rosetti says:

The truth is @T Says your a fuckin idiot go fuck yaself bitch!

  44. R says:

This is actually the first Album i brought this year and its a Classic. The rest is just recycled and leaked garbage we’ve all heard a million times before!

  45. slicksick says:

I liked kendrick, i wasn’t a fan at all, but after hearing pharrell comparing him to Bob Dylan so i said let’s give it a go and downloaded the album. i’m hooked. this is not just an album with great songs. actually the songs individually are very good but nothing special. but when u listen to the album from start to end, u’ll know what i’m talking about. as Kanye for this guy rapper is an understatement, he’s a true artist, a very good one, not the best rapper but the most creative out now i’d say. P.S. ColeWorld :p

  46. RIGHT NOW says:

Kendrick Lamar is the most boring rapper i ever heard in my life. Hes going to the VIP section in hell for making this wack ass album and i cant wait.

  47. k1ng petey says:

u mean he gets paid to do these vlogs?

  48. KoldCase says:

kendrick is the king of the west coast

what you mean two times ina row?

    section.80 was a independet album

then GKMC thats 2 fucking great albums

    then O.D. was killer too

this man is the truth, thats why i bought two albums

  49. Nathaniel says:

God Forgives, I Don’t is a better album than Life Is Good.

i didn’t say Ross was a better lyricist. nor did i say he was a legend. nor did i say he had a wider range of subject matter. nor did i say he wasn’t at one point a corrections officer.

but musically, his album was the best rap album of the year until Kendrick’s dropped. just my opinion. Nas just seems outdated with his production, and even though lyrically he’s still a master, Ross’s records are just… better, overall. to me, at least.

  50. Hannibal Lecture says:

    Classic hands down

  51. cheeeese says:

@Dashing , the best West coast rapper of all time, is originally from New York, and he passed away 16 years ago. …#Thuglife

  52. R says:

life is Good was trash and outdated beats lyrics are better than Co Ross doe but maad city outshines them both!

  53. DJ Semtex's Prothsetic says:

i like what YN said, its not just a bunhc of songs thrown thogether, its more a complete album as a whole, i really appreciate this in music, brings a fresh expereicen to hip hop, im glad he made the album the way he did

  54. Nickey Negrito says:

Simply put, this album is dope. I can sip on wine playing this music. It definitely fits my mood.

My favoites: IM REAL – SHERANE- BITCH DON’T KILL MY VIBE – SWIMMING POOLS -DYING OF THIRST

  55. Nickey Negrito says:

    @Cheeeese….i agree

  56. Anonymous says:

Good as a whole, decent torn apart.

  60. Nas says says:

^^wow really ?!?! go kill yourself

  61. Dashing says:

Fair enough. It’s nearly impossible to say anyone’s better than Pac, given his impact on the culture and his untimely death which undoubtedly shape how people will perceive him. And it’s probably too early to even be asking the question since Kendrick only has one official album.

That said, it’s hard to argue that 2Pac has better flow than Kendrick. I think Kendrick could be on a track with anyone right now (Tech N9ne, Busta, Eminem, Jay, Elzhi, Lil Wayne) and not only hold his own but possibly outshine them. That wasn’t exactly Pac’s strongest suit. In his era, he was never a “spitter” in that sense.

Also hard to argue that 2Pac put out an album that was considered a classic. As far as West Coast artists, Death Certificate, Doggystyle, and The Chronic are all better than any individual album that Pac put out. There is no definitive 2Pac classic album. He’s judged more on his entire body of work, rather than one album. It’s too early to say but not inconceivable that Good kid m.A.A.d city could be considered a classic album. Add in the also-exceptional Section 80 into the mix and you’ve got 2 extremely

Storytelling. Again, it’s hard to argue who wins here. 2 different styles. Pac simplified things by rappng slower and speaking more emotionally. Kendrick tends to rap faster and layer a bit more technical skills on with his stories (wordplay, internal rhyme) but while MCs would tend to appreciate and respect Kendrick’s ability some of it might get lost to the casual listener. Call it a draw.

Voice. No question here: 2Pac. Although Kendrick can flip his voice up a bit (i.e. Backseat freestyle, maad City) it doesn’t have the power that Pac’s had.

Charisma. Again, easy win for Pac.

I think in time we’ll see, we need 2 or three more albums from Kendrick, but I think he could be one of the greats.

  62. brl says:

Notice because people are feeling his music they’re considered “Stanleys” by Rap Radar? This is why Hip Hop fans stay jaded. Ya’ll constantly make fun of the kids that visit this site because they believe in an artist. Let them have their moment. Always putting the audience down.

  63. Attaboy says:

Nathaniel is defiantly not a street NINJA or deep… LOL .. CO’s thou…and K.Lamar’s album is OK, but not a classic,….

  64. MR.M says:

Section 80 was a classic, Good kid M.a.a.d City Best debut album so far…but thats my opinion

  65. JAGUAR says:

    blueprint

    stillmatic >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> kendrick lamar

    Godson

    get rich or die trying

elliot wilson is such a dick rider……..kendrick lamars album is K not eben the full OK.

  66. Yoo says:

I heard the album once and right away i said to myself, “I’ma have to listen to it a few more times to fully grasp what he’s trying to do with it.” It’s alright from the first listen, but I know the more I hear, the more I’m going to like it. It just has that ype of feel to it.

  67. loch121 says:

    @Nathaniel are you retarded? #lifeisgood

kendrick’s album is classic period.65 mics

  68. st says:

@Nathaniel, I totally agree with you. Nas is a supreme lyricist, however, Rick Ross puts out much better quality product. I actually have to rank this Kendrick Lamar album above God Forgives. This shit is dope

  69. st says:

    @Dashing…great comments bro
