Emmett Till Estate On Lil Wayne Lyric

https://twitter.com/bdottm/status/300633985686573056

Some things are just down right disrespectful. Over the weekend, Future released the remix to “Karate Chop” featuring Lil Wayne. Weezy insolently rhymed, “Beat that pussy up like Emmett Till.”

In 1955, Emmett Till was tortured and murdered for allegedly whistling at a White woman. He was 14 years old. His death was a catalyst in the Civil Rights movement following his open casket funeral.

From Kanye West to Remy Ma, Till’s name has been used as punchline to describe the severity of an injury or situation. Reps for the Till Estate recently spoke on the lyric and needless to say, were appalled by the line.

UPDATE: Jesse works fast.

  7. LP1031 says:

@ london Or lack of, that’s when you know you wack cuz, you still using senseless punchline from 5 yrs back son. See I’m better than Wayne and I could say that with a straight face and believe dat sheit

  8. Pro Era Sultan says:

Wayne is a fucking idiot. His rap career is obviously over & he knows the only way to stay in headlines is to say or do outlandish shit. Like this comment, get in a fight with a cameraman, baker forehead tattoo, kicked out of heat game. Smh. It’s getting pathetic watching him try to keep his once promising career afloat. I give him 2 more years of relevance max. He’s finished.

  9. JustMyOpinion says:

This is what happens when you’re uneducated about your history or history period.

  10. Pridd says:

If I had 1 wish…… I’d wish the WORLD COMMON SENSE!!!!! Smh…. Just sad what were becoming

  11. 2 Cents says:

This is really messed up. Considering Wayne’s audience probably never heard of Till’s case he could’ve referenced his name in a much better way to make the youth especially the black youth aware of what their forefather endured before the civil rights. That was rather insensitive and unwise of Wayne.

  12. THE MAJESTIC NIGLET says:

fuck wayne and his disrespectful ass also how many times he gotta make the same old metaphors oh i beat the pussy up like… yeah only thing wayne is beatin up is a pussy

  13. j says:

    wayne, you are a loser.

    but we already knew that

  14. Batman says:

just shut the fuck up no one gives a fuck, it was a punchline. thank god not everyone gets feelings after a rapper uses their name disrespectfully, y’all are lame, seriously.

  15. keep it Real says:

YN should do a TRUTH segment over this issue…

  16. zeee says:

you my friend @batman are an idiot

  17. Phyucku Dusumtin says:

This mufucka Batman’s comments is the very reason I don’t fuck with these new niggaz or that new nigga mentality. Stand for nothin and fall for anything ass niggaz. No code, no morals, no limits, and at times no soul. If you can’t grasp the foulness of that niggaz lyric then you on a Molly or yo mama aint teach you nothin worth shit. It is what it is.

  18. Earl Johnson says:

Freedom Of Speech……..But there’s some things you DO NOT SAY

  19. Batman says:

I dont mind the hate cause Wayne > EMMETT Till in every aspect.

    B. Dot if you’re so passionate about Emmett Till, why dont you spell his name correctly on this post? HA, ya and im getting hated on.

  20. Los says:

    “The problem is two-fold:

    1) Many of the people who purchase hip-hop music are white people who care nothing about how the music might affect the psyches of black youth, and

    2) If you force a product down the throat of consumers long enough, they will eventually crave it in the same way that an alcoholic comes to desire poison in his body.

White people buy hip-hop, but are not as readily influenced by its messages. They don’t see the artists as reflections of themselves, but as reflections the “authentic” black urban “gangsta” experience.”

What does this have to do with anything? Looks like the Till family is as ignorant as Lil Wayne

  21. Los says:

“Also like Malcolm, Lil Wayne was poisoned by a racist society, and his music is merely a symptom of the mental illness that America has built within him over the last 30 years. Since he never met his own version of Elijah Muhammad, Wayne has become convinced to use his power to kill his community rather than lift it up. This is unfortunate.”

    Oh I see…

    Actually no, I don’t.

    Fuck outta here.

  22. MikeWillMadeIt says:

Kanye west and Lil Wayne both these guys are jokes.
Yet all these people commenting only go at Wayne.
Why? Idk maybe they have Kanye or jay z balls too far down there throat

  23. ARTOXICATION says:

B.Dot, thanks for teaching people some of their own history. A lot of black youth have no idea who Emmit Till is, its significance in the Civil Rights Movement, and the Civil Rights movement period. If we knew our true history things would be a lot different in our community.

  24. This is the shit that happens when a black man lacks knowledge of self. That punchline is down right disrespectful, and shows black folks need to do a lot better.

  25. Jay Fingers says:

Contender for next Blackout or YPY?

  26. JAGUAR says:

lil wendy is a booty popping monkey…………..and his fans are parasites……..

  27. […] Its still crazy to me that segregation was legal in America. They make some amazing points. Artists do NEED to be more accountable for the things they say. Emmett Till’s family is outraged over a new song released by Lil Wayne and Future where Lil Wayne raps this line: “…Beat That Pussy Up Like Emmitt Till…” What do you think? Did Lil Wayne go too far? This is a bigger issue than Lil Wayne and his choice of lyrics, to me this is about self love and understanding the history of black people in America. I don’t think Lil Wayne really thought about the line before he said it. We can do better. Watch the Emmitt Till documentary below. -spotted at Rap Radar […]

  28. B says:

@LOS are you fuckin stupid? Fuck does white people buying hip hop albums have to do with a black man disrespecting his own people? Im lost. Obviously so are you… ill pray for you.

    OUT

  29. Chronic says:

@ B are you fuckin stupid??

He’s saying wayne can get away with saying shit like that cause white people don’t give a fuck if its a disrespectful line to black people. And they will listen to rap about drugs and sellin em but not even think for a second to do that, meanwhile black youths listening might see it as their only option.

  30. matrix says:

Damn and you got niggz in here that actually trynna defend the shit…smh…i been knew this world was fool of pieces of shit mothafuggas…but damn you niggz is just foul…

  31. vintage13 says:

While this issue should definitely not be taken lightly, there are many other instances of insensitivity in hip hop to very similar issues and other tragedies that occurred to black people as well as people of other ethnicity/race/culture , and I don’t see this particular writer calling out every other artist’s negativity.

  32. vintage13 says:

And I don’t expect him to either. It’s not his job, many rappers say things for the sake of a rhyme, not acknowledging the impact of their words

  33. YoungNWavey says:

Not the first time he’s mentioned emmit till.what about all the trayvon martin references or his abraham lincoln line

  34. yuthnasia says:

This lyric/ line was definitely disrespectful to what Emmitt Till’s story stands for. Smh

  35. […] lyrics and raunchy music videos. Lil Wayne is no stranger to this sort of criticism and he’s being targeted once again for uttering what many deem as an offensive and disrespectful […]

  36. mac DIESEL says:

IMMA RIDE WIT SUCKA ASS B.DOT ON THIS ONE!!!! THAT WEAK PREDICTABLE PUNCHLINE WAS STRAIGHT DISRESPECTFUL!!!! I WISH SOME OF THESE NIGGAS WOULD GO BACK IN TIME AND REALLY SEE HOW CRAZY SHIT WAS BACK THEN!!!! THESE FUCKIN’ INGRATES HAVE NO FUCKIN’ CLUE!!!! MONKEY OF THE MONTH GOES TO LIL WAYNE!!!!

it’s a punchline. get over it. when will humanity stop letting words bruise them?

  40. Tyler says:

Why didn’t anyone care when he said “beatin up ya block, yeah I get my emmett till on”

  41. Me says:

“If you are offended or defended by anything I may say or do— Do Somethin” Lil Wayne

  42. jayoconn says:

can someone post the exact songs where these Kanye and Remy Ma used the “Emmit Till” punchline??

Lil Wayne- “It’s me Bitches” off Da Drought 3 is where he used the line posted above.

And to me that “beatin up ya block, yeah I get my emmett till on” line does not really make sense, so i never took offense to it.

  43. Me says:

Sounds to me that music isn’t the problem here, it’s whistling at a white woman. JS

  44. Justin TIme says:

@Jayoconn Remy Ma verse on Terror Squad “Yeah Yeah Yeah”. Kanye on “Through The Wire”

  45. NYCS says:

Don’t forget, Kanye ref’d Till, too. Spread the hate around.

  46. Mojo says:

But its okay to call out (read: disrespect) every other nameless (and named) woman, brotha, whatever. SMH with a Dylon face (name the 5 best rappers of all time: Dylon, Dylon….) at fake outrage. Go sleep. Get the bloodclot outtta here with this nonsense.

DMX rapped about necrophilia…freaking raping a corpse. Biggie was on that rape of both man and woman as well as killing a newborn. Don’t get me started on Eminem. The list goes on and on. Wayne gets flack because he used a historical figure? That’s where the line is drawn???? That’s a no go in the streets now????

Fake outrage. Take that hot basura to the nutso blogs that think Obama is shaping the world into a Hitler like regime and if you’re black and rich, its only because you worship the devil. I can’t say give me a break. More like get yourself some help.

This isn’t a freedom of speech thing. This is a “Call him out for the insensitive line and move the bloodclot on”.

    Nobody trying to read

****DAY 4: Lil Wayne Watch—-When will he apologize for being vulgar/insensitive/downright disrespectful in a Rap lyric because this is the very first time such a thing has occurred and we as a Hip Hop Community won’t stand for it. The Musical”. ****

  47. kyla says:

MY MESSAGE TO LIL WAYNE IS:: WHAT GOOD IS MONEY IF YOUR SOUL IS ROTTEN?? INVEST IT IN EDUCATING YOURSELF YOUNG MAN!!

    @ Mojo

I DON’T THINK U REALLY UNDRSTAND THE PLIGHT OF THE BLACK MAN!!!! IT’S BECUZ OF EMMITT TILL LIL WAYNE CAN TALK TO A WHITE WOMAN!!!! THINK NIGGA!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OINION!!!!

Shouts @ME for saying the most sensible ish on this entire thread… 100

  50. Donn says:

Freedom of speech, no matter if u like it or not, u can’t take away that man’s freedom to say watever

  51. Yo momma gave me the ... says:

    @dumbasses

If it was just a punchline ” all whites are ignorant redneck trailer trash”. I expect everyone to accept what i just said because it is just a punchline. HELL NO
Even better, have a public speaker burst out with that bullshit like lil wayne, see if people take it lightly.
Bunch of insensitive fucks on here!

  52. wtf says:

Lil wayne is deplorable. He has taken his lyrics to the extreme, and i really think he says things just to raise conflict because he has become IRRELEVANT. He is like Randy Moss….”I’m going to say something just so people will talk about me”.

  53. mark landeck says:

This is a non-issue. Freedom of speech reigns supreme. If you don’t like the song, don’t listen to it. If I’m LiL Wayne I wouldn’t change the lyrics. No one should ever apologize for what they say. Words are words. Once they’re out there, they’re out there. Actions are different. LiL Wayne didn’t physically hurt anyone. Get off the guy’s back. 1st amendment rocks!

  54. Why, though? says:

So sad. We are our own worst enemy. Lil Wayne is a walking, talking minstrel show.

  55. Why, though? says:

And this is NOT what freedom of speech means. smdh

  56. […] has meant to us as a people and as a culture,”Airickca Gordon-Taylor, cousin of Emmett Till, told Rap Radar. ”It was offensive not only to us, but to our ancestors and to women and to themselves as young, […]

  57. Really? says:

Apparently some of you people dont understand the issue. Learn your history or do some research for God’s sake. This 14 year old boy was tortured and murdered for making a pass at a white woman. Wrists broken, eye gouged out, and beaten severely among so much else. And no one was ever held responsable. This isnt about “Freedom of Speech” or people being “too sensitive”. Personally I feel this is about a lack of respect for how your own people were treated in the past. As well as plain ignorance .
