News
The kid did good. After hitting the BET Experience stage, Kendrick received a platinum plaque for his critically acclaimed album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Congrats K-Dot and the entire TDE camp.
Okay album not great
Idkno….
Aftermath. Does it again. I think he’s next album is gona be the truth. Plus it’s a good thing that DR Dre just let’s this nigga do he’s own thing.
Well deserved. GKMC is a classic
[…] via Rap Radar […]
HE DESERVES EVEN MORE
Slow & steady wins the race. Good job Good Kid.
Not a classic by far
CONGRATS. Well deserved. Ppl just like to go against the popular opinion. If everybody said the album sucked then a few dudes would say its FIRE. Ppl just like to be in the minority. Great album, haven’t heard an album like this in a long time. If ever. In 2013 we got this album, proud time in HipHop.
Classic.
Amazing album. When I listen to it, it was more than music, it was a story of a person just like me with dreams, fear, dangers, trouble, happiness, adolescence and maturity. He stayed true to his roots he kept it original but different. God bless Kendrick Lamar and hip hop.
Good god, I havent heard an album like this in a GOOD minute. I will actually purchase this rather than download it. If hip hop artist pumped out more stuff like this, labels could move units like it was ’98.
classic album! THIS IS HIP-HOP
One thing I liked about the production of this album is that the beats are different from current hip hop albums and it sounded like all the producers were on the same page. It almosts seems as if the whole album was produced by one person. That’s how smoothly the album flows. Great Album Kendrick.
One of the best Album I ever heard!! Point Blank!!
listening to this really makes section 80 (one of my favourite albums) sound alot more like a mixtape
AMAZING album
This album will go down as one of the best albums of all time for any genre just like Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, Ready to Die and the other rap albums that are considered the best of all time. When those albums came out we didn’t understand how great they because were very young at the time. Now we have a chance to witness a classic and a legend in the making. The storytelling is amazing. It’s like a movie. You can’t just listen to a couple of songs or skip through. You have to listen straight through from beginning to end.
Congratulations Kendrick, you earned it bro. You deserve everything that’s coming your way.
This deserves every bit of this rating.
Truly deserved!!!
well deserved plaque….but certainly not a classic
Reblogged this on City Press.
This deserves every bit of this rating. This shit is a CLASSIC.
This album is ahead of its time. Perfection from start to finish.
The best hip-hop debut since Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor.
26 and already sitting on one of the most impressive classic albums of this new generation, big props for that.
Kendrick Lamar: Single handedly bringing the REAL Hip-Hop back!
As a fan, I’m proud of Kendrick for making it as far as he has. When I first heard Good Kid M.A.A.D. City I was amazed. It’s rare nowadays to find an album so consistent and coherent with it’s storytelling and lyricism. Swimming Pools, Poetic Justice, and Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe aren’t big giant top 5 hits on the hot 100, but they were still hits, and they did their job. Even without charting extremely high, almost everyone I know has heard those songs. I thought Kendrick would go gold without a doubt, but even I underestimated him selling this much. Even though, he hasn’t quite sold one million copies, he’s pretty close. I think his performance at the BET Awards will spike up his sales a little. As long as he continues to promote the album and maybe drop another single (I say Money Trees), he should definitely sell a million. That’s a big deal too, the only rappers that go platinum nowadays are Jay, Ye, Em, Wayne, Drake, and Nicki. The best part is there ain’t nowhere to go but up from here. Now bring on that Kendrick/Cole album next year.
good kid maad city, one of the best albums of this generation.
Pac died at 25. Kendrick starts to carry the throne at 25 should be some good years to come
gkmc certified classic since its released.
@raiseyourL u high nigga? he already sold a million copies.. That’s what the PLATINUM plaque he’s holding mean bruh
TRASH ASS ALBUM BE REAL WITH THY SELF
Hard work pays off. K.dot did his thang without a pop single wit a rnb singer 2 hit radio. Gd 2 see a westcoast shine without rapping the same old lowriders, chronic, chucks, etc shit we always hear. 2many niggaz fuck theirs off loving hoes fuck with homies n bullshitting with they talent. Stay focus tde camp doing it right.niggaz must know how 2listen when they get advice.
the plateau that they put this album on, i dont see how kendrick will be able to follow up to it or schoolboy q..
@truth hurts dnt be jealous bitch nigga. Is dat u shyne hoe ass nigga. u must be a weak rapper who hasnt made it. keep trying sucka nigga
his a classic in todays standards
Definitely well deserved. I think Kendrick just fucked the industry up with this one. It’s more like a chapter in the autobiography of Compton.
@creo don’t forget shyne had a classic album before k. dot lol
his a classic in todays standards
___________________________
Fuck all that ‘today’s standards’ BS.
Standards haven’t dipped. If anything, in the internet era, we’re far more critical than listeners in the 90s.
It’s a landmark hip hop album. Period.
Glad I contributed to the platinum plaque with my purchase.
Na brah Classic ..NO Classic is illmatic, GRODT, The Documentry, Ready to Die, All eyes on me….Like kdot but yall throwin words around real losely.
the only album I bought these last 7 years
It has become my most played album ever, lol
Cats need to focus on making great albums, not great mixtapes, not great singles, not great verses on other people stuff
kendrick, only artist of this generation with a hip hop classic, congratz!
KENDRICK LAMAR NAS has stated represents a new future of not only the cali mcee but hip hop in general ……..
never heard an album that good since the marshall mathers lp and food and liquor
Kendrick’s solidified himself as one of the most impressive artists with GKMC.
Great album he deserved that platinum plaque!!!
Already bumped this album more than this overrated shit of The Documentary (C- lyrics)
Shit sux @TruthHurts real talk man.
kendrick had the hiphop world looking at him before he dropped and he proved everyone that he owns this shit. he had no real top10 hits. no commercial sounding singles but he has the classic material.
respect
IMO, this is the best album since food and liquor in 2006.
That’s right. Everything about the the beats on GKMC –hell, everything about that album– was meticulously thought out and executed in intricate fashion.
Seems like Kendrick is bringing out a difference between old heads and young bloods.
That’s star quality right there
everything about this album is perfect minus Real.
great job kendrick, you’re the leader
Amazing album. When I listen to it, it was more than music, it was a story of a person just like me with dreams, fear, dangers, trouble, happiness, adolescence and maturity. He stayed true to his roots he kept it original but different. God bless Kendrick Lamar and hip hop..
I would definitely consider that project a classic.
Favorite Songs: The Art of Peer Pressure / B!+ch, Don’t Kill My Vibe / Good Kid
Least: Backseat Freestyle
Well I think it might be the most important album of this generation, 5/5 album
Lol that kendrick stan act like niggas dont know he post all the comments dick riding lmfao shit was ight not classic by far…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
This is the turning point we’ve been waiting for
congratz for the platinum with this classic kendrick.
Congratulations Kendrick Lamar! no one deserved it more than you
I’m cool with that, not the biggest fan but I have to admit that it was a groundbreaking album
Gotta give my respect him, Drake, Wayne, Jay, Nikki, and Kanye the only rappers going platinum. Doesnt look like Kanye and Wayne are gonna go plat with their recent releases and Nikki is pretty much a pop star and I dont think her last album went plat either.
The word gets thrown around a lot but this album is 100% certified #CLASSIC, ya bish! If your circle don’t agree it’s full of squares.
Good shit lil nigga.
It gets harder and harder for rappers to go Plat, for an artist like Kendrick who isnt a pop artist to get this is a tribute to how alive the west coast fanbase really is and how they were waiting for years for another superstar to come out the gate.
feels good knowing you contributed. he deserves it, a classic is a classic, now lets hear that schoolboy q
don’t know about it being a classic, but a bottom line classic for sure !
i’m happy for him
2012 was a great year for hip hop
Mediocre af C-
Left my car old news
He deserved it. K Dot is very talented!
Kendrick Lamar, Ace Hood, B.O.B, Nelly, Bridget Kelly, Lil Mama & Toccara Attend Ford Hot Spot During The BET Awards Weekend http://yodonbleekraps.com/2013/06/29/kendrick-lamar-ace-hood-b-o-b-nelly-bridget-kelly-lil-mama-toccara-attend-ford-hot-spot-during-the-bet-awards-weekend/

Best album since my beautiful dark twisted fantasy, so true and impressive,
King Kendrick Lamar
Hahaha trollin much dick ryder half the damn comments lol damn shame #
Hahaha trollin much dick ryder half the damn comments lol damn shame #Stan
I used to hate him but I have to give credit where its due, it’s a near perfect album.
very well deserved, can’t wait for your 2nd studio album kdot.
with or without the plaque, the album is legit, big props.
congrats to the young rap gawd Kendrick made Jay proud
Fuck kendrick my nigga ab soul tho
Good work Kendrick. It says a lot when garbage strip club rappers are flopping left and right and an artist like Kendrick can go plat in this climate.
Looking forward to your next piece of work KDot
we didnt let hip hop die on oct. 22
I love the fact that this was an actual album..not just a collection of songs that can play on the radio
Best hip hop news I’ve seen in a minute…Kendrick bringing real hip hop back and being rewarded for it. It ain’t dead yet friends
:Obamawhew:
GKMC was a great album. Congratulations to kdot
Dont care post That JCole hoe
I knew it was going to be plat when I first heart it.
Anoter great lyricist doing a milli ? i’ve been waiting for that since the early 2000’s
AMAZING, I’m glad this nigga went plat instead of all these fake rappers @ Drake, Rick ROss and Wayne
hip hop won
Very good news, i’m happy for the boy, he deserved it
bought 5 copies of this instant classic.
@nasislike Cosign bro not near a classic! I didnt like that shit tbh but yo yo aye who the stan suckin off this guy lol
Just wasnt good sad
Well done Kendrick & The Top Dawg ENT Family know time to drop the Oxymoron album, Heard About K.dot through a friend of mind then heard him on a track with Tech N9ne and the rest was History Section 80 still in heavy Rotation especially Keisha Song.
didn’t like it as much as you but I can recognize quality albums, it has everything I want for an hip hop album so i’m not mad if this is widely considered as a classic.
good job kdot
Congrats to Kendrick, well-deserved!
GKMC is ok, nothing special to be honest. he’s just getting love because he’s from Dr. Dre’s camp. plus he’s got co-signs from Drake and Jay-Z. you got other debuts that had a bigger impact like GRODT, The Documentary, Doggystyle which all had Dr. Dre production and this album didn’t have none of that. it’s just that the younger generation has a thing for him.
Gongrats to dude
Who the stan SMH wow
Album has everything to be considered as a classic in the next few years, Imma gonna support that kid, he is very special to me
shhhhhh, it ain’t a classic YET guys, stop overrating it, might become a classic for sure but yall need to wait at least 5 or 10 years.
amazing album nontheless.
This album is the voice of an era.
Im 15 im not a kenrick fan @lol shit sucked balls tbh
Great for him, hard work pays off
haven’t heard an album that good since Lupe Fiasco – The Cool.
Meh….MEDIOCRE
that instant masterpiece is finally plat !
Looks like Aftermath got another classic “2001” , “The Marshall Mathers LP”, “Get Rich or Die Tryin”, now “good kid, m.A.A.d city”
I haven’t felt an emotional connection to an album like this since Petey Pablo’s ‘Diary of a Sinner: First Entry.’
I’m Just Glad It Came From The Best Side…The West Side! If the newer generation is sick of Hip-Pop, go listen to the 90’s!
Kendrick Lamar, best rapper out so far (not counting the veterans; like jay, Nas, quik), call me regionally biase if you want to, westcoast radio stations need to stop being held hostage and support their artist, i like other regions but fu@k them they’re not westcoast
I really like this album but i cant flex i liked section 80 more.
Dude is already sitting on 2 classic I guess… but S80 >>
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOO WAS ABOUT TIME KING KENDRICK
Congrats Kendrick I Feel Yall All The Way, I Had Wanted Rick Ross To go plat ! I Feel He Deserved It But I Think Yalls Arguement Is Substance Over Style Or Style With Substance And This GKMC Is Drippin Out The Seems With Substance, Reflection, Intelligence, And Great Production…. Congrats Kendrick. I Agree With Yalll! ON This!!!
This is definitley a great album, Im feelin it. But lets not get carried away putting on the same level as Illmatic. Its a classic for todays stndards, but not quite on the level of Illmatic or Moment of Truth.
Give the album a few more years before calling it a classic guys but it’s indeed one of the best albums released in recent memory
very well deserved.
Trash
This album is the best album I’ve heard in a very long time. This was a perfect album from the beats, subject matter, & lyrics. This is a classic in my book.
Overall , Amazing.
kid must be happy now
Kendrick is a breath of fresh air.The album was a 100% hip hop.
Best album I have herd in a long time, in fact I haven’t really been this impressed with an album since Lupe dropped The Cool. Not sure if that means it is a classic though. XXL is so shitty and inconsistent with their ratings (way to many XLs and some real questionable Ls) so the XXL rating means nothing to me, and it certainly doesn’t mean classic. Classics stand the test of time, so we will see where m.A.A.d city stands 5-10 years from now. A very quality album though. Very quality.
Considering his skills, passion, charisma, personality, …he might go down as a legend, let’s hope hist next album is as great as Section 80 and gkmc
LOL @ that stan guy that has posted 85 comments no life smh
Cats need to focus on making great albums, not great mixtapes, not great singles, not great verses on other people stuff
great job kendrick lamar
Listening to it again, damn that album is absolutely beautiful.
Edit/Delete Message
na you can’t edit or delete it my Nicca 😉
great album, but don’t call it a classic. A classic is determined through time!
good day for hip hop man
never understood why they kept saying the album was platnuim in Febutary, when it was in the 700,000 range. Maybe a method to sell more copies, idk.
But this is a big change for Hip Hop. It proves that an artist can stay true to their identity and doesn’t need a direct audience. His music is for everyone. Congrats
I would suck Kendrick and Jay z dick at the same time no problem
best rappers evah
I fill really bad for the stan that wrote most of these comments and now you tlkin bout suckin dick wtf we get it your in love with kendrick but damn you gay af post a comment evey sec.. smh we all know its you acting like other ppl SMH
It amazing.
Amazing album, he deserves all the praise and success he gets.
Props to K.Dot, lp is amazing.
the kid worked hard and delivered; I support that.
yeahh kendrick totally deserves this and more. GKMC was a great album, best of 2012 for sure.
weird to see haters on here, but you gotta remember, there are lames out there who buy weezy/rick ross and shit, so you gotta expect there will always be people who have shitty taste in music.
congrats my nigga
This is a huge accomplishment in today’s time for Hip Hop music. Congrats to K Dot!!
[…] Kendrick Lamar Receives Platinum Plaque […]
First off major congrats to kendrick and tde for their hard work and grind in this era known as the rachet/turn up era, he just shitted on every rapper old and new with this album from sales, to lyricism and concepts!
But we have to be careful with the word classic, a album isnt considered a classic by how good it was or how it sounded it’s considered classic by it’s longevity and it’s playback rate years after it’s release. Right now gkmc was just a fantastic album with major impact on the culture, years from now Im almost positive it will be a CLASSIC.
Co sign@ stinkmeaner u hit it right on the nail
How’s someone lame for buying ross/weezy shit? Its called preference.Congrats to K.Dot for the plaque,GKMC was a great album
CONGRATS DONT GO POP PLEASE
Its amazing to see a real hip hop album go platinum.
People can say what they want about K album. Lyrically it was superior, musically it’s refreshing. If it is not a classic album then it’s great. If it’s not a great album then it’s good. If it’s not good then it’s decent. If it’s not decent then it’s ok. If it’s not ok then it’s trash.
This album far from trash and its right between great and classic. That says a lot. Congrats!
THIS IS NOT A CLASSIC ALBUM..POINT BLANK…is it better then the other 85% of shit rappers yes it good but deffinetly not classic..give one album u can compare it to as being classic?! Its just better then the shit thats out since hip hop has gone down the drain
lol fuck outta here that album is nothing special
for a second i thought that said keyshia cole. i was like WHAT?!
ok, well it’s a “modern day classic” …..happy?
best album I have heard these last 7 years, congratz kendrick
Amazing album. When I listen to it, it was more than music, it was a story of a person just like me with dreams, fear, dangers, trouble, happiness, adolescence and maturity. He stayed true to his roots he kept it original but different. God bless Kendrick Lamar and hip hop.
Good god, I havent heard an album like this in a GOOD minute. I will actually purchase this rather than download it. If hip hop artist pumped out more stuff like this, labels could move units like it was ’98.
the only classic album of this generation, big props kendrick lamar
I think kendrick is already up there with Tupac, his album is more than hip hop, it’s a masterpiece.
Fantastic album, absolytely fantastic. Kendrick damn near exceeded EVERY one’s expectations for this. I know it’s a reach, but the way Illmatic touched the people growing up in the past generation, I think GKMC does the same thing with this current generation. Soundtrack to everyday situations. Relatable. Deep. Deserves every bit of praise it gets.
amazing, fucking good win for hip hop
No one is calling it the greatest album of all time. You’re just a fucking idiot. It is a very well thought out album that obviously had a lot of thought into it which people acknowledge.
it’s indeed a classic, not on Illmatic level, but still a classic
5 mics. This is like a mix of Illmatic & Aquemini. Kendrick4K proves his worth wit this project, start to finish. The whole concept as a whole is perfected and exemplifies what an ALBUM is supposed to be. Reminds me of how 70s rock albums were put together to flow start to finish. Kendrick’s album may have haters who are unknowledgeable about what makes a great album, but over time these people will understand (hopefully) that this is a classic in its time. This CD will do for this generation, what OutKast’s “Aquemini” did for its generation. After recently being at the Las Vegas show, I can also attest that he has the performance game on lock as well, and really knows how to control a crowd and get full involvement from everyone. GLad I was in media row in the front to catch it! All in all, this CD is worthy of all the praise and accolades for it defines Kendrick as one of the top emcees and storytellers of his time.
nigga that shit aint certfied by RIAA? his album aint sold over 1 million yet in USA
yawnnnn this album overrated i give it like 6/10 smh to many boring and skippable songs
section 80 though 10/10 straight upppppp
gkmc makes s80 sound like a mixtape lol
its a very well thought out and excellently executed album-the story flows all through and after a few listens (i’ve listened to it probably 20 plus times now) you see the whole flow of the storyline, each skit leads to another chapter-only time will tell if it can be put on the same level as illmatic, but its definitely classic worthy-this brother Kendrick has unlimited potential, and cant wait for his follow up, he puts his heart and soul into his mus music, and i feel he is a super MC because he has all the elements-from the lyricism and flow like a biggy or jay-z, and the content like a PAC or Nas, he has it all, and he will only get better-too many favorite songs to mention…
5/5 this album gives me hope that a new artist can put out quality music in this era. its absolutely refreshing 2 know that people still make hip hop music that i, as a fan, can stand by.
p.s. WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT A WEST COAST ARTIST WOULD BE THE TRUE DESCENDANT OF OUTKAST?
shit is classic, lyrics and beats on point thats what u cant deny.
my favs: track 4 with dat heavy bass line reminded me Kanye’s work on Diamonds from Sierra Leone and the rest.
Aaaaanndd the album is one of the best SEQUENCED albums done in recent years since Saigon’s Greatest Story Never Told.
not being a huge kdot fan before kgmc, this album solidified him as the top rapper alive right now. idc how much yall dont like him,, the fact is, is hes on another level than than most. Classic album
Congrats. Definitely well deserved.
*2 platinum up next*
CLASSIC. F YA’LL THAT THINK IT AIN’T
