  4. The Real Truth says:

this is not hip hop, its POP!!! stop it smh respect on the record sales tho

  5. BrothaPope says:

    B dot is so white

  6. JustMyOpinion says:

Okay….this has to stop. Why are we acting like an independent artist has never achieved this much musical success, Are we forgetting TECH N9NE?

    1. B.Dot says:

@JustMyOpinion Tech N9Ne has never went platinum.

  7. Facts says:

where the homie mac at to put the lames in their place…

  8. Jav says:

Macklemore is tight but to keep it real we hate on him because of how much radio and tv has made him/them into “pop” stars. I guarantee you that if this album stays underground we’d all be saying how under rated it is. They’re both good artists it’s just annoying that we have elementary aged kids dancing around to their music and really making the whole idea of being an independent artist messed around with in our heads. Props to them though.

  9. JustMyOpinion says:

@ B. Dot I am glad you made that point. As a student of the game, remember the words of Chris Lighty and I paraphrase, it’s better to sell 100,000 records for 10 years than to sell 1 million records one time. My point?

TECH N9NE has been doing this for TWENTY years. The crazy part, I am not a fan of TECH, but let’s not act like this is new.

Let’s talk about these guys in 20 years, mayBE even 5.

  10. B124EZ says:

That’s great for them. They’ve had a helluva of year.

  11. B.Dot says:

@JustMyOpinion ur right consistency is important. But What Mack & Ryan have done in less than a year, some artists (indie or not) will never accomplish. It’s never been done.

  12. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

Congrats to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

  13. Respect says:

This man cant rap! nd all his songs blow up cuz the person on the hook kills it not cuz of anything he does

  14. Starfox64 says:

Is sharkface gang some kinda gay homo reference??

  15. another no talent act benefitting off our culture

  16. JustMyOpinion says:

This is your profession, so you know better than I do, a year in Hip-Hop isn’t rear. The over-saturation may or may not harm them. We’ll see it if they can do it 1 or 2 more times. As always, I see your point.

Don’t get it twisted, I give them their props.

  17. WhiteLightning says:

@TouchMoneyShot – Such an ignorant comment. Get out of your hole.

    Congrats to them.

  18. Splash says:

    These guys are shit

  19. i respect the hustle, they aren’t talented @WhiteLightning

  20. Theblackrushlinbaugh says:

*em just went 10x’s platinum* salute aftermath/ interscope.

  21. LOL says:

who gives a fuck, they are wack anyway

  22. Bo N@tion says:

Honestly…No one who listens to real hip hop cares. Like someone said earlier he is basically blowing up off of the hooks of the song. Nobody is walkin around quoting Macklemore lyrics. Its like when you and your boys go to the court and your mom forces you to take your little cousin it almost feels like white america wants Macklemore to succeed so they’re forcing him on us when he’s actually a POP artist. Robin Thicke has more soul than Macklemore.

  23. Ricky Retardo says:

    @ B.Dot

they been pushing some of them records since 2011… I respect the grind more than the acomplishment. Labels & Artists need to re-learn how to work records.

  24. King says:

Let’s just assume a black rapper/black producer who put this same album out with the same label, would he have gotten this much success? The answer is NO everyone would have just called the album below average (it really is) and moved on. I’m happy for the man’s success, but this music is straight bullshit!

  25. Bo N@tion says:

BTW…Ryan Lewis look gay ass shit holdin dat moon man.

  26. Kaly says:

i really hate all of you commentators

  27. Del says:

i’m not a fan, but I ain’t mad at ’em… this just goes to show who’s actually buying and supporting records these days

  28. productofme says:

can we push GKMC and Born Sinner to platinum now?

    thanks

  29. mac DIESEL says:

@JustMyOpinion ur right consistency is important. But What Mack & Ryan have done in less than a year, some artists (indie or not) will never accomplish. It

  30. StarFox64 says:

also tech n9ne is actually fucking independent yo, are we still going to pretend that these guys are independent, oh and so is mac miller right…?

  31. StarFox64 says:

@RickyRetardo what labels and artists need are real fans and OR participants of the culture and not these rich white collar fags…literally

  32. StarFox64 says:

@productofme gkmc has been conveniently pushed to platinum by these nerds’ shenanigans…

  33. mac DIESEL says:

    @ B.Dot

SINCE YOU’RE JAY’S PERSONAL BUTLER, I KNOW U WAS AT THE DREAM CLUB VMA AFTER PARTY!!!! PLEASE TELL ME COLE KICKED THE CIROC OUTTA DIDDY’S ASS!!!!

  41. Da Business says:

Props to them cats and their accomplishments, but the lp was average @ best.

Their singles were official tho. I agree that being white helped them out, but @ the end of the day them cats crafted gr8 songs. Like it or not hip hop is not just about bars, niggas need to make MUSIC that the average person can relate to…

  42. LL COOL J says:

WTF? You guys cant be serious right now. Miley Cirus lookin ass nigga sold a milli? damn.. just found out who this nigga was the other week… White people support white rappers for real… CUS I KNOW NO NIGGAS BOUGHT THIS SHIT.. LMAO

    COLD

  46. truth hurts says:

    grattan said last Tuesday 1
Interesting piece on Vice about the VMAs – here’s the bit about Macklemore and ‘Same Love:

The (relative) big winner of the night was Macklemore, who along with his producer Ryan Lewis, won two VMAs and performed his gay rights anthem

  47. SpaceGhost says:

To be fair, congrats to them…..however. Ruthless Records, No Limit Records, Hypnotize Mindz all pulled off this feat and more. They were all independent labels that made their biggest impact before the majors came knocking. Ruthless and No Limit were distributed by Priority records which was a small back catalog label that before Eazy came along distributed old/rare music, non music (such as speeches, comedy) cd’s. They did platinum and beyond. It wasn’t until later when Epic purchased Priority and Sony purchased Epic in turn that these were considered to have major label backing. By then, their glory days had already passed and their mark on history had already been cemented. DJ Paul and Juicy’s Hypnotize Mindz/Prophet Entertainment has ALWAYS been distributed by good ol’ Select-O-Hits which makes them independent to this very day. Only Latter 3-6 Mafia Albums and some of Project Pat’s albums came out on Sony. I said all this to say, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are white in white America. If you have noticed in the last 3-5 years there has been an aggressive push by the mainstream to have white artists dominate all genre’s of music including attempts (mostly failed) to capture hip hop. The media demonizes all black people for displaying behavior learned after centuries of us living in THIS country under THEIR oversight. Once again, history is attempting to be re-written to give these two white guys credit for doing something that blacks have done and mastered with no fanfare. Once again, blacks have been so whitewashed that they are willing to GIVE the credit to them freely. Sorry folks, we cannot continue to let them rule and erase OUR history in exchange for so called acceptance from their end of society. We started this and we need to finish it. Sorry Ryan and McLemore, but you aren’t the first and you won’t be the last.

  48. CARAMEL SHADY says:

TECH N9NE CAN NO LONGER CLAIM TO BE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL INDEPENDENT ARTIST! HA! TECH ONLY SOLD LIKE 1.5M WITH A FUCKLOAD OF ALBUMS, MACK N LEWIS WILL OUTSELL THAT WITH ONE ALBUM

    FAGGOTS STAND UP!

  49. CARAMEL SHADY says:

    SHARKFACE WANG!!

    FUCK OFFICER RICKY!

  50. eliceo says:

everyone who doesn’t see the accomplishment of these too. Not only did they go platinum but they can put on a great show, the heist has been out for months and the singles that are being released are requested by the fans so why not take advantage of it. Same Love is a radio single at all and it was a number one song in america. I guarantee half of y’all be singing thrift shop and cant hold us. and did i mention these dudes can rock a crowd. i can careless if your music sucks if you can rock a crowd ill fuck with you. just look at their made in america performance. blacks whites spanish all reciting every word of every song. they are here to stay
