Shirt King On ‘New York Magazine’ Photo
1.21.87.
Earlier this week, New York Magazine unveiled the cover of their “Yesteryear Issue” featuring a 17 year old, Shawn Carter. Speaking with MTV, legendary graffiti artist, Edwin “PHADE” Sacasa of the Shirt Kings, gave the backstory behind the image which was taken at party at the Colosseum Mall in Queens.
“It was my birthday party, so a lot of people showed up [DJ] Red Alert, Jaz-O, the Afros, a lot of cats from Hollis, Queens showed up. Jay just happened to be there with Jaz-O. He was a personal friend of the Shirt Kings. In taking that picture, I knew I was capturing the moment because hanging out with this guy since young I already knew that he had phenomenal skills. He was better than anybody that was out… he was already a star in my eyes since he was a kid.”

There are other websites. Visit them. Stop wasting your time with this senseless commenting. I like Jay-Z. If I didn’t like him, I would stay away from outlets that support him. Simple as.
Listen I understand your point but as visitors of this site I think your allowed to critique it everything can’t be all positive all the time and I’m sure rr doesn’t mind it. I’m a fan of this site and Jay z but come on this is excessive I think that’s all mac is trying to say just in a more blunt fashion
