Revolt Interviews Jay Electronica At BK Hip-Hop Fest

Peace To The Gods.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Jay Electronica perform, but over the weekend, he made his return to the mainstage at the BK Hip-Hop Festival. Following his performance, he talked to Revolt about his homecoming and struggles with alcohol and smoking. Judging from his slimmed down appearance, it’s good to see Elect kick the habit.

If Jay Electronica wasn’t down with Sean Carter, would Elliott and Brian care as much as they do now

    1. They would… They were there before Jay Z was holding Jay Elec down.

JayElec a beast. now we know who’s chain Jay was rocking…

  3. Real Dope Brother says:

Hopefully he actually delivers material closer to what he was doing 4-5 years ago when exihbit c dropped and prior because right now the material he has been putting out leaves a lot to be desired.

    Droog>>>>>Jay Elec

I agree with the first part of your statement. “Call of Duty”, “The Announcement”, “Shiny Suit Theory”, “Better In Tune With The Infinite” are all good songs, but he set the bar so high with his pre-Roc Nation shit that they don’t as strong in comparison. Hopefully he kept the crack for Act II.

      1. Real Dope Brother says:

I’m with you, hopefully he’s keeping all the heat for his long overdue debut album. Don’t get me wrong he’s still better than the gimmick pop hop they play on the radio but I’m just not hearing growth (anything new, fresh), or even just as dope as his stuff from a half decade ago.

I don’t get the hold up, if he releases Act2 with or without video and radio airplay he’ll get the same sales results.

No one lyrical is going gold without dumbing it all the way down, getting several r&b singers to handle the hooks, and getting a product endorsement deal for the newest electronical distraction or over hyped movie. Jay Z and Eminem have proven that several times over the past 5 years. Jay Elec is between a ROC and a hard place.

      1. Real Dope Brother says:

What?!?! Who dropped a better hip hop mixtape or album than Your Old Droog ? Take your time, I’ll wait.

        1. Belize says:

well since you asked…(as far as whole albums/tapes are good, no skips)

Mixtape: my favs so far is
          Curren$y Drive in theatre..
          isiah rashad &
deniro’s rebirth (latter may be an album, not sure)

          Albums:

          schoolboy,
          gibbs/madlib..
          and Popcaan’s album

Albums/tapes that had great tracks but not all the way solid:
          Styles P’s Phantom CD
          Michael Jackson’s cd
          YG’s album
          Sizzla’s Radical cd
          Pharoah Monch’s PTSD album
          Taurus Riley’s Love Situation

I like music brah…i dont play that whole “OOOOooo look he sounds like Nas so I gotta jump on the wagon”.

Granted he may turn out to be that dude. but nah, album of the year my battyhole

          1. Real Dope Brother says:

I listen to music too, so i give you props on the Sizzla, Popcaan, and even the MJ album, but noticed I said Hip Hop. And of all the hip hop projects you mentioned Gangster Gibbs, Curren$y, schoolboy, YG, the god Pharaoh, and even Styles Panero… Y.O.D dropped a better body of work no matter if it sounds like Nas or not and I’m a fan of each artist you mentioned. No skips on Schoolboy Qs album? Homie please, you can’t be serious. Grab that Ab soul fam it goes harder than Q and As my personal favorite tde artist. Play that Droog str8 through no skips and act like he ain’t kill that project.

          2. Belize says:

Ok I can’t lie..I deleted the pharell track but nah..overall the whole Q album I dig more than Solo’s but…different taste. I grew around some cuzzos so I get a better vibe I guess

      2. Brian B.Dot™ Miller says:

        WORD!

  4. writerstale619 says:

So can we get an album this year or next year?

    1. true story no lie says:

Hell nah jay elect somewhere reading

  5. jsmooth says:

    Wassup wit the album tho!

  6. PTK says:

hopefully he can keep up this momentum cuz if it dies down the album will drop the same day detox does. not that the album is more important than his sobriety and health.

  7. el jim chapo guzman says:
