DOPE! “A Lyric on Canvas!” Wow! Can’t Wait! Lupe is the greatest!

  2. BK James says:

Why are the features named but don’t appear on the track list? Oh well, hopefully this is better than his last couple albums, not that Food & Liquor II was bad, it just was far from great.

One of the greatest MCs of all time… Lupe the Jedi

  7. Nicholas El Tahir Jayy says:

Lupe is on a tightrope. He hasn’t released a dope album since The Cool which to me conceptually was a better album than Food and Liquor. Alot of artists have fell victim to industry politics i.e The Lox, Jay Electronica, Method Man, Saigon etc.. But because this is a business you only have a small window to keep your fan base interested in your product especially in this A.D.D generation. So I hope this album goes well, I would hate for him to pull a Mos Def once he’s independent and go M.I.A for years.

    1. marty mcfly says:

I don’t think its Lupe, I think its people in general that are making their own judgments of what Lupe should make. Lupe released an alot of dope songs this year in case people haven’t noticed (Halie Selassie, Mission, Next To It, Lillies, Piru Blues, Deliver, Pu$$y, Mazinger,) but its always about what people want instead of what Lupe is doing at the time. The concept for the Cool was dope but so was the concept for American Terrorist especially where he left it on part 3 but people been stuck on the Cool so much that they don’t see nothing else. People keep implying that he aint been dope since the Cool but its like why you aint give them other albums and projects a chance? Its like when people said he’s a sellout for Lasers but yet his first two singles were Show Goes On and Words I Never Said… Its like COMEONSON. I get that people are just in love with the Cool and cant let it go but Lupe has made alot of dope shit since then.

      1. GetReal says:

maybe cuz those songs were ass on lasers, content and substance can be there but if niggas dont like what they’re hearing sonically they wont support, you new niggas think, substance automatically equates to good music, thats a big fuck no, and plus these niggas just aren’t business minded enough and dont make the right moves, but yet wanna cry like bitches, they need to grow up and get on their shit, its a reason kanye and jay still in this shit on top

        1. marty mcfly says:

Nah they were good songs, its just people want to decide what Lupe can and cant make. Lets look at some songs from his last couple albums starting with Lasers…

          Letting Go
          Words I Never Said
          The Show Must Go
          Beautiful Lasers
          State Run Radio
          Break The Chain
          All Black Everything
          Never Forget You
          I’m Beaming
          Shinning Down

These are dope songs no matter how you wanna cut it but lets keep in mind the album was kept on the shelf for three years so what we got was the Atlantic version of what Lasers was supposed to be which people should have been able to figure out since it took a protest to get a release date. Now lets look at F&L2…

          Strange Fruit
          Around My Way
          Audubon Ballroom
          Lamborghini Angels
          Put Em Up
          Brave Heart
          Form Follows Function
          Cold War
          Unforgivable Youth
          Hood Now
          Go To Sleep

These are also dope song no matter how you wanna nitpick them. If Kendrick or J Cole wrote these songs, niggas would be acting like they were classics. I get people want Lupe to make what they think is dope but if thats they case maybe they should just rap themselves. Lupe still making dope shit imo.

          1. GetReal says:

this what you don’t get i liked F&L 2 the songs were good, most of the songs on Lasers were ass, get over it, not everyone comes out with A1 shit, nobody wants to dictate shit, they just wanna hear some good music

          2. marty mcfly says:

You say they just wanna hear good music? Before that you said the songs on F&L2 were good. So if you want good music then there you go. Its time to stop complaining about Lasers. the niggas has released like 50 songs since then. I also think you may wanna listen to some of the songs again from Lasers but hey.

      2. Nicholas El Tahir Jayy says:

I’m a big Lupe fan but you can’t ignore the label influence on the sound of the music. Yes he has released quality records but your not going to convinced people that “LASERS” was as dope or even close to he’s mixtapes and he’s first two albums PERIOD.. Also pu$$y was “troll” worthy same as thot97. He’s in conflict with himself musically. I loved Animal Pharm but just because he throws a few concious lines here there through other records doesn’t mean it’s of the same or higher quality. Those records had absolutely No replay value. F&L 2 was cool but it wasn’t Dope, maybe I’m being unfair. There’s alot of factors that play in this, like the death of Nerd/Backpack rap with the fall off of Mickey Factz, Charles Hamilton, Wale, Asher Roth etc… And in this Ratchet Rap era there’s no back up for Lupe musically so he sounds like the Too Righteous Too Dictionary lyricist surrounded by Animated “street” rappers!

        1. marty mcfly says:

I see how those albums aint what people may have wanted since they just stuck on The Cool but I don’t see how them albums aint dope though because again, if you take those list of songs, I don’t see how thats not dope material. With that being said, I too was disappointed with Lasers but we all know why that is. He explained why on that very album. Of course he has conflict with his label, he’s signed there, he’s trapped whether he likes it or not and that does factor in with the music obviously. However if niggas would just download the other songs that Lupe has posted around the times of these albums and also take the dope songs off these albums they would see there is a healthy serving of dope material and again, imo if J Cole woulda wrote a song like Words I Never Said or Kendrick woulda made a song like Shinning Down… Niggas would be acting like the shit was crazy but how long are people gonna complain about Lasers? We all know why that album aint what people wanted because Lupe and his fans discussed in detail for years before it was even released.

          1. Nicholas El Tahir Jayy says:

We gonna have to agree to disagree. I love Lupe more than most but he hasn’t grown musically enough for a artist who made he’s debut in the mainstream almost 10 years ago. Instead he has been up in down because of the industry as well as just personal conflict. The pressure he gets isn’t just on him, all great artist has and have gotten it. Look at Kendrick with his new single or Hov or Nas or Wu. It’s not just Lupe. But that’s the price you pay for greatness dawg. But I understand it, everybody can’t be Jordan!

          2. marty mcfly says:

I don’t think anybody gives any artists credit for growing. People still wishing Jay and Nas go back to Reasonable Doubt and Illmatic… Lupe definitely has some songs that have shown growth since his debut imo. I think have just made up their mind that since there are new bandwagons to ride in Hip Hop that nothing Lupe makes is dope anymore.

          3. Nicholas El Tahir Jayy says:

I don’t think thats the problem I think he’s not “consistent” enough with dropping Dope shit and the people can tell.

          4. marty mcfly says:

I don’t see how he’s not because in comparison with anybody else he’s more then consistent. The majority of songs he released this year have been dope. The other rappers who did not release an album this year did not release as much dope material as Lupe did.

        2. marty mcfly says:

Don’t get me wrong, I see some of what your saying but the standard that people are holding Lupe to is impossible. People compare Lupe to Lupe.

    2. b r z a says:

“The Cool” better than “Food & Liquor”? I have to disagree with this

      1. Nicholas El Tahir Jayy says:

That’s fine, I think The Cool showed he’s ability to dive into different subjects, from third person and creating images writing wise. He became a greater writer in that album to me but F&L is a backpack cult classic without a doubt!

  8. el jim chapo guzman says:

hip hop spread of the day ‘TETSUO & YOUTH’ will sell AT LIST 3k first week.

    1. GetReal says:

you real live be on every post on here, i know for a fact you aint got a job

      1. el jim chapo guzman says:

you right i don’t have a job. i have a fuckin degree you asshole.

  9. Rob Lo says:

Nobody cares about Lupe anymore…he dropped the ball wen he released that wack mixtape and everything after his second album The Cool…I was a fan but NOPE…not nomore

    1. marty mcfly says:

Even that wack mixtape had songs like Lightwork, Lupe Back, Double Burger With Cheese, Joaquin Phoenix, Life, Death and Love From San Francisco, SLR, and Supercold… The standards people hold Lupe to, they dont hold any other MC to. Its impossible to reach the standards people hold Lupe to. Kendrick released like two songs in the last two years and people act like that nigga is just on fire. While Lupe been steady releasing crazy shit… SLR 2,3, Light Blue, Jonylah Forever, Animal Pharm…

  10. Grey says:

No one wants to hear this terrible muslim rap.

  11. Maurice ReBe' Bass says:
