Completly agree. I’m all for a guy wanting to perfect his craft and make a classic album, but at a certain point when you’re only putting out a song ever 2-3 years, you’ve gotta rethink shit. He’s slowly becoming the biggest disappointment in hip-hop right along dre and his album
Only thing is people still like his music though. When he’s on a feature (Kingdom Rmx) or a freestyle (We Made It) or when he drops a song (Road To Perdition) people still like the shit and when he does a show people still excited. If the album never comes out then yes thats an extreme disappointment but people have enjoyed what they heard thus far. He’ll never be as popular as Drake or Kendrick anyway. His music doesn’t aim for that kinda stardom.
Yea, but all the hip-hop heads who check for him will be disappointed if it’s not one of the best albums of the last 2 decades in my opinion. At least that’s what I expect from him based on what I’ve heard. Still don’t get why he can’t just release some tracks that he isn’t putting on the album
The heads are already disappointed and even if his album is the best album in the last two decades (which based on lyricism and individuality it probably is) they wouldn’t admit it because people (the heads included) disqualify an album from being considered great based on pop status. Since Jay Elec is not J Cole or Drake or Kendrick, therefore even if his album is equal to a modern day Illmatic, people won’t be willing to admit it. Or oh its too complicated so therefore its not dope or oh since he’s not young then it can’t be dope or whatever excuse they can make to knock it… I want the album to come out like everybody else but when I hear songs from him, its easy to hear why such a project is completely different from everything else. Its like trying to go back to the year 2000 and figure out how to market and release Deltron 3030 (notice the “tron”) to the masses. The whole album is so far beyond what people are used to that even if you get it right, people gonna knock it anyway. Jay Elec is probably just trying to get everything as right as possible because aside from his own success, such an album is important to the culture for alot of reasons…
The fact you even expect his album to be the best in the last 2 decades would suggest he needs to work on it as if it has to be… Either that or you’ll be disappointed. Most people shoot for the best album of that year. The best in 2 decades thats gonna take alot of work and maybe thats what’s taken so long because if you feel that way, Jay Elec probably knows that and its not just you that feels that way so he knows he gotta deliver something of alien technology levels to make people happy.
I’m saying he should keep working on it. But release the music that isn’t gonna be on it too. Just want him to give us fuckin something lol
