Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Cover ‘Complex’

Welcome Back.

Bet cha didn’t see this coming. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are slowly returning to the mainstage and tell their story on the cover of Complex’s August/September issue. As always, the feature is ready to read here.

“I held it together for a while,” he says. “But, eventually, I stopped going to my 12-step meetings.” “I was burnt out,” he continues. “I was super-stressed. We weren’t sleeping—doing a show every day, zigzagging all over the country. In terms of the media I was getting put into a box that I never saw for myself. The pressure and the fame—everything. All the clichés, man—like not being able to walk around, having no privacy, and from this TV appearance to this TV appearance, and the criticism, and the lack of connection, and the lack of meetings—all of that put into one pie was just…I just wanted to escape.”

      Where’s the patience?

      1. Kris Kompute says:

It’s been 3 years. He has an in-house producer who is his 50% business partner. He needs to put down the dope and get focused.

        1. ymcmbovoxommgcteisdownwitopp says:

greatness takes time. Mack & Ryan make real music with live instruments, as opposed to samples and trap beats with melodic repetitive flows. 3 years is worth it for a project with depth and substance.

          1. Kris Kompute says:

Chance (who I’m not really a fan of) makes his music with live instruments and he still drops music every few months. And he’s a known acid tripper.

            I respect M&RL. Hope it’s dope.

I would have thought there’d have been a discussion of the “kendrick text” from the grammys. They basically danced around it (with all the white privelage stuff) but didn’t address it directly. Still, will be looking for their new album.

    1. Kris Kompute says:

He’s discussed it. Numerous times. I’m glad that they didn’t. And I’m glad he’s addressing the white privilege thing and is cognizant of it.

The great thing about Macklemore is that he very self-aware. I hope that translates to his music because this “I get stressed and smoke weed” shit is getting old.

  4. Sonic says:

Fuck white people! Keep them out of our culture! Only niggas should be allowed to make hip hop. All white people are good for is the white hoes to fuck and the wiggers to rob on the streets.

  5. Iamstillmusic says:

Kendrick got robbed for best rap album by these wannabe hip hop artists

    1. Kris Kompute says:

Outside of Kendrick and Cole, I can’t think of a mainstream artist who is more “hip-hop” than Macklemore

      1. Iamstillmusic says:

        Big Krit, Logic, Big Sean…

        1. Kris Kompute says:

KRIT definitely. Logic is a baby Macklemore/Cole/Kendrick clone. Needs to find his own lane. Big Sean is a rapper, not a hip-hop artist. He’s the same lane as Drake.

          1. Iamstillmusic says:

I think Logic is genuine, his life just falls in the same realities of Kdot and Cole, Under Pressure was amazing.

            Krit definitely he’s underrated

            Big Sean is arguable

  6. el jim chapo guzman says:

      1. el jim chapo guzman says:

Fuck you wanna ME ass nigga.

      2. F*ck Drake says:

        lmao “Spigger”

    1. Kris Kompute says:

Shouldn’t you still be getting sprayed in the face by October’s Very Own?

  7. yorapper says:

Looking forward to what he got next. I need someone to fill that smart white rapper void in my life.

  8. ymcmbovoxommgcteisdownwitopp says:
