While I agree it’s cool he brought in legends….he couldn’t have honored them by putting them on a track that has to do with something other than fuckin mopeds??
While I like the beat and the chorus, and I like that he has legends on it, I’m still torn when I listen to this. I want to like it, but then I hear him rapping about mopeds and can’t help but feel like they’re just trying to make another Thrift Shop. I almost feel like he’s saying hey, the song is a hit and I can literally just rap about anything and it doesn’t matter. Also at this point, I think it’s safe to say that Macklemore is a pop star. Adding hip hop legends doesn’t make him any more hip hop or less pop.
Macklemore needing to cite rap legends attempts to show his music in the context of hip hop greats, but having only made commercial songs such as thrift shop, he doesn’t embody any of the struggles that rap is about. The only struggles Macklemore has had were being a drug addict and that’s why most of his songs are about making music- because had no other content.
