The album structure is sloppy, the auto-tune is overdone, the background vocals/samples are loud as shit (his albums are rarely mastered well) and his lyrics are mediocre. “I’m a put a Go Pro on my dick” “I could prob still fuck Taylor Swift”. All the shit that’s happened to him since 2013 and that is what he raps about. ALBUM IS TRASH.

I think of TLOP more as “Mike Dean, Plain Pat and Rick Rubin featuring Kanye West making a Nine Inch Nails album and then I’m good. If he made songs out of the content of his rants he’d have a hope of living up to his braggadocio. The Yo Gotti rant was a REVELATORY sermon.
I think there is a fashion for impromptu non written rhymes being considered album quality that is very ill considered. Instead of trying to compare himself to lil Uzi Vert why not Miles Davis or Robert Johnson?
There is also the “moving hip hop forward attitude” which doesn’t add up. I don’t really think taking cues from the East Village scene of Rick Rubin’s youth is that progressive or making 90s alternative music with some current beats is all that mind blowing.
I actually like TLOP but mostly because of all the contributors. I’ll always have Kanye’s Get Well Soon tape and my Strata East, Bad Brains and Sizzla Kalonji records for my non commercial moods.

I dunno man. Setting the bar everytime is tough. I think he understands that people acept his direction that he takes with their style and it usually leads to overall good music.
ALso I took this album more so as a compilation album of all the styles of music he has put out since day one. It has yeeus sounds(feedback) college dropout(ultra light beams) MBDTF(No more parties in LA) late registration (30 hours) WOlves (808s) and waves and famous is Pop Kanye. Great album.

This album has no conceptual integrity whatsoever. The samples are ill placed, the levels are entire too loud on the background vocals and there isn’t one thought-provoking track. Nothing he did was revolutionary or could even be considered “out of the box”. Over saturated auto-tune/melodyne filters, choirs, the interpolation of gospel themes with one hit wonder rappers…nothing is proprietary about this album.
Y’all are buying into the celebrity of Kanye and not the music. He doesn’t get a pass because he’s a legend and has made great work before. This entity sitting before us is subpar and sloppy. Anyone that can’t admit that is literally caught up in the marketing tornado Carter/Dash/Pitts set up back in 2003.
